    Pre - Press Operator

    Introduction

    • Novus Print Gauteng, a division of Novus Holdings, is currently seeking to appoint an Electronic Pre-Press Operator in our Hybrid (Heatset and Coldset) Pre-Press department, the position will be reporting to the Pre-Press Manager.

    Job description

    • Management of the digital workflow process of material received from clients.  
    • Effective communication and interaction with clients and with the relevant  production departments.
    • Ensure quality standards are adhered to, together with accurate record keeping.  
    • Perform troubleshooting and fault finding on Pre-press equipment and machinery.
    • Adhere to all routine operator maintenance procedures on all Pre-press equipment  and machinery.
    • Delivery of quality plates on time and in full to the Press department.
    • Ensure seamless workflow planning within the Pre-press department to ensure  service delivery to internal and external clients.
    • Ensure adherence to all quality assurance and safety standards.
    • Ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained.

    Minimum requirements

    • Grade 12
    • Must possess a relevant trade certificate  
    • 5 years’ experience in an electronic Pre press environment and working  knowledge of imposition software
    • The position requires a willingness to work  shifts, public holidays, and the occasional  overtime.

    Job description

    • Identify, target and secure new business opportunities across the labels and packaging sector, with a focus on FMCG, beverages, food, personal care and industrial markets
    • Grow and retain an existing portfolio of key accounts, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and long-term partnership
    • Present and promote Novus Labels’ full product offering, including self-adhesive labels, pressure-sensitive labels, wrap-around labels and wet glue paper labels
    • Develop a thorough understanding of client briefs and specifications and work closely with the estimating, pre-press and production teams to deliver accurate proposals
    • Prepare compelling, market-related pricing proposals in conjunction with the estimating function and National Sales Manager

    Minimum requirements

    • Relevant tertiary qualification in Sales, Marketing or Business will be advantageous

    Job description

    • Ensure the availability of job material, job cards and correct pallet tickets
    • Ensuring the quality of the logs and pallets produced
    • Basic maintenance and cleaning of the stacker
    • Doing quality checks and informing the Printer of any faults

    • Manually packing sections to the pallets when there are jams and /or spoils

    Flexographic Printer Operator

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and maintaining flexographic printing presses to produce high-quality printed products in accordance with customer specifications, quality standards, and production schedules and report the Press Shift Leader.

    • Set up and operate flexographic printing presses in accordance with production schedules and workinstructions.
    • Ensure accurate registration, colour matching, print quality, and adherence to customer specifications.
    • Monitor machine performance throughout production runs and make necessary adjustments to optimise quality and productivity.
    • Perform machine make-ready, including plate mounting, anilox selection, ink preparation, substrate loading, and changeovers.
    • Minimise material waste through effective machine setup and continuous process monitoring.
    • Carry out routine quality inspections and complete all quality documentation.
    • Perform first-line maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and routine machine inspections.
    • Identify and resolve printing and equipment-related faults to minimise downtime.
    • Ensure production targets, efficiency, waste, and downtime objectives are achieved.
    • Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management System requirements.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and reduce waste.

    Minimum requirements

    • Matric/Equivalent
    • Minimum of 2 years' experience operating flexographic printing presses in a manufacturing or packaging environment.
    • Sound knowledge of the complete flexographic print production process.
    • Experience with water-based, solvent-based, or UV inks will be advantageous.
    • Knowledge of print registration, colour management, ink viscosity, anilox rolls, doctor blade systems, and print quality standards.
    • Experience in embossing, foiling, silk-screening, lamination, or die-cutting will be advantageous.

    • Loading of Commercial/Magazines/DBE/Books and Labels as per the daily CAD report.
    • Check the work being loaded is correct as per job cards and product keys.
    • Check that the pallet label matched to the work that is packed on the pallet.
    • Report all inconsistencies to the Shift Co-Ordinator and Despatch Supervisor.
    • Support the Shift Co-ordinator in the effective delivery of departmental activities.
    • Ensure all delivery notes are correctly signed and placed in drop box.
    • Adherence to all safety regulations and work standards.

    Minimum requirements

    • Matric/Equivalent
    • 1-2 years’ experience as a General Assistant in a printing environment on the finishing process and Despatch department
    •  Knowledge of the printing and manufacturing industry is essential 
    • Knowledge of CAD will be advantageous
    • Avalid forklift drivers licence is essential
