    Learning Practitioner Instrumentation (Non Permanent)

    Purpose of Job

    • Identifies learning needs, applies methodologies, develops learning material and facilitates the training and assessments of the workforce including 18.1 and 18.2 appointments according to the legal requirements within business unit of responsibility in alignment with the Energy business learning strategy, frameworks, policies and guidelines. Each learning practitioner has a dedicated assigned business of responsibility.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Identifies required learning interventions and learning outcomes through assessing current versus required knowledge and skills and proposing gap closing interventions.
    • Assess the target population profile for learning requirements as well as learning intervention in alignment with the identified population profile in order to determine whether the intervention needs to be developed or is already available in order to address the specific identified need.
    • Designs, develops and/or selects learning methodologies of specific modules in line with relevant learning legislation and business requirements.
    • Facilitates the process in delivering learning interventions through a variety of learning methodologies.
    • Guide learners towards competent practical application of their skills within a workplace context through e.g. application projects/assignments.
    • Conducts assessments within area of expertise, thus specific trade, using methods, activities and processes specified by appropriate legislative framework.
    • Ensures adherence to and implementation of the Sasol learning guidelines, frameworks e.g. policies, processes and legislation.
    • Support the line managers to evaluate competence and identify gaps by using the standard competency and proficiency criteria as a guide once learners have been deployed to the respective operational areas.
    • Formulate learning plan with timelines.
    • Facilitate formal and coordinate on-the-job learning by providing learning plan with timelines.
    • Monitor progress during the training programme process against agreed learning plans.
    • Manage performance of assigned learners according to the Sasol Code of conduct.
    • Develop, revise and update learning material as needed.
    • Acts as moderator/assessor for 18.1 and 18.2 learners where and when required both in Sasolburg and Secunda environment, thus must be prepared to travel.
    • General supervision of learners including fulfilling role of complainant during disciplinary inquiries and completing time and attendance

    Formal Education

    • Production occupational certificate / Maintenance trade certificate
    • Higher OETDP certificate (Maintenance Secunda - Wish)

    SHE Process Safety Senior Specialist

    Purpose of Job

    • To provide in-depth Subject Matter Expertise to develop and optimise safety processes to meet all legal expectations and actively support occupational health and safety.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Facilitate PHA & ad hoc risk assessments using methodologies such as HAZOP, PHR, LOPA, SIL, Fault/Event Tree, Human Factors, Inherent Safer Design, Explosion modelling and Risk Ranking, communicate findings and obtain managements' formal response to PHA recommendations.
    • Facilitate/participate in PSSRs, incident investigations, assist in compiling reports, lessons learned & next steps.
    • Identify potential or actual changes, assess their effects, improve risk management using hierarchy of controls.
    • Assist operations regarding technical aspects Sasol Specs, API, NFPA and ASME of PSM and clarify PSM standards and elements.
    • Advise on Safety Case technique information to support regulatory permitting and authorisations where applicable.
    • Provide assurance that PHA information is used in operation of other PSM elements eg SOPs, Emergency procedures.
    • Develop and maintain plant specific PSM procedures and checklists, by interpreting Sasol STDs, procedures, specs and guidelines.
    • Drive operational hub PSM initiatives, plant rollout and embedding PSM system.
    • Conduct MHI studies where applicable, analyse MHI regulations, ensure compliance.
    • Advise on land use for operational areas based on relevant studies.
    • Identify potential process and asset features that could escalate emergency events into major incidents.
    • Carry out PSM stand-by duties and co-ordinate external risk assessments.
    • Utilise lessons learnt to advise management to avoid repeat events.
    • Utilise consequence modelling and probability analysis to develop solutions.
    • Perform quality assurance of risk studies conducted by PSM Specialists and Practitioners & advise accordingly.
    • Assess quality cost effective solutions during risk assessments to ensure optimum risk design within acceptable risk parameters.Support, monitor identification of PSCE.
    • Utilize a FER-SI tool to derive fire, explosion and toxic index.
    • Plan/meet project management objectives in technical, professional and expert areas of work.
    • Conduct audit/plant inspections to assure the effectiveness of actions taken in incident investigations, PHA, KUE.
    • Assist in preparation for 3rd party audits and insurance engineers visits by collecting information, organising, planning and tracking follow up.
    • Research/propose/assist in the implementation of best practice and fit for purpose solutions to meet changing business and work requirements.
    • Gather and analyse data on PHA, MHI reports, observations, audits, incidents, and advise management on high risks.
    • Assist senior managers to be better PSM leaders eg be visible felt leaders.
    • Keep up to date with latest developments, and develop knowledge relating to the PSM field and personal mastery in technical skills application.
    • Coordinate PSM related projects eg facility siting.
    • Participate in the development and maintenance of career path.
    • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships on all levels.
    • Liaise with accredited engineering facilities AIA, Sasol Group Technology, external, etc. regarding process projects.Liaise with neighbouring Sasol and non-Sasol plants on potential incident escalation scenarios.
    • Demonstrate influential relationships with manager/peers/company leaders.
    • Attend sharing and networking activities within the group/external forums.
    • Deliver knowledge based process safety training as SME/coach/mentor.
    • Participate in process safety culture transformation programmes and other initiatives as an element SME.
    • Audit/make recommendations on permit to work system to improve business efficiency.

    Miner x13

    Purpose of Job

    • To achieve defined performance targets in section through building of operator capabilities and planning, organizing and controlling the day-to-day Mining activities.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Manage crew to meet production targets.
    • Manage safety, health and environmental issues in section.
    • Ensure competence of crew.
    • Demonstrate continuous drive to improve.
    • Act as Relieving Shift Boss at times.

    Strata Control Officer

    Purpose of Job

    • To assess the underground mining workings for stable excavations and roof and sidewall skin management.To evaluate the effectiveness of recommended support and do compliance audits (incl. reporting) of controls implementation in supported areas.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Apply the Rock Engineering systems and tools.
    • Conduct routine, ad-hoc or requested inspections to assess rock mass condition and control plan effectiveness.
    • Monitor compliance to support and excavation standards.
    • Participate in short term planning and production meetings.
    • Provide coaching to mining personnel during routine inspections.
    • Respond to red triggers and report to Rock Engineer by quickest means available.
    • Assist with the proactive identification of significant ground-related hazards.
    • Provide appropriate participation in or assistance with the investigation of fall of ground incidents and reportable falls of ground including the completion of the rock engineering aspects of the official accident report and inputs into the SAMRASS 3 report.
    • Qualified as Strata Control officer and found competent by Chamber of Mines.
    • Develop self in obtaining Rock engineer certificate of Competency.
    • Be able to work independently within the safety framework of the mine.
    • Safety mindset as top priority.
    • Report writing to Rock Engineer Services department and Operations.
    • Compliance and corrective actions must be issued and followed up
    • Integrity to be demonstrated.
    • Facilitation skills and training capability to coach operation teams.
    • Communication skills and assertiveness to discuss findings and report on deviations and control effectiveness.
    • Contribute and give inputs in the short-term planning meetings and work sessions with individual mine overseers and in team base at meetings.
