    Principal Analyst (Advocacy)

    • The successful incumbent will drive the Commission’s advocacy in various sectors and markets. If you are a thought-leader with an appetite for analysing complex economic or legal issues and ideas on economic policy matters, please share your profile with us.

    Key Accountabilities

    The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, amongst other, include: to

    • Design and lead sectoral and thematic advocacy projects and research, end-to-end, to promote the objectives of the Commission.
    • Provide thought leadership and expertise in priority areas and priority sectors of the Commission.
    • Advise and advocate on competition issues arising in Government legislation/ regulation.
    • Oversee teams of investigators in case investigations (preliminary investigations/ screening).
    • Advise and support the Divisional Manager with stakeholder management- this includes leading stakeholder engagements, making presentations, facilitating workshops, training sessions and meetings.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Commission’s Strategic Plan, Annual Performance Plan and the Division’s Business Plan.
    • Contribute to the efficient administration of the Advocacy Division through the development and/or implementation (and compliance) of protocols, procedures and systems, including knowledge management, the management of the Competition Commission’s resources and management of staff.
    • Actively participate in governance committees and in middle management decision- making forums.

    Job Requirements
    We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking and a committed individual who presents the following skills and experience:

    • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Law, Economics or Social Sciences.
    • 8 - 10 years + relevant related working experience, including proven experience working in and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Experience in Competition Law/Economics will be an advantage.
    • Proven project management experience.
    • Strong stakeholder management skills, negotiation and ability to manage relationships with a range of stakeholders.
    • Experience overseeing screening or case classification processes in a regulatory or enforcement environment will be a strong advantage
    • Proven track record in policy advocacy and policy analysis
    • Strong analytical skills and experience in investigating cases and/or managing research

     Other considerations:

    • Practical work exposure to area of expertise will be further considered to balance against other requirements.

    Analyst (Advocacy)

    Job Description

    • The Competition Commission seeks to appoint an Analyst in the Advocacy Division. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for supporting the Competition Commission in investigating and resolving competition cases through advocacy and to provide policy and legislative responses and analysis. The position requires the individual to be adaptable, self-starting, inquisitive and relational. The job has some specialist or technical aspects and will expose the successful candidate to different aspects of competition law and economics.
    • A starting annual total cost to company package of R 1 092 619.93 (negotiable commensurate with experience)

    Please note that this position is available on a five (5) year fixed-term contract, renewable.

    Key Responsibilities

    The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include: 

    • Assist in conducting investigations regarding possible contraventions of the Act and relevant advocacy activities.
    • Assist in conducting research and policy analysis of the regulatory landscape and make recommendations.
    • Assist in conducting advocacy research and investigations to support the Commission’s objectives.
    • Act as a representative of the Commission within the framework of the Competition Act when communicating with business, consumers, employer/ employee representatives and other government agencies.
    • Contribute to the implementation of the Commission’s Strategic Plan, Annual Performance Plan and the Division’s Business Plan.
    • Contribute to the efficient administration of the Division through compliance of protocols, procedures and systems, including knowledge management.

    Job Requirements
    We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking and a committed individual who meets the following requirements:

    • A completed LLB or Honours Degree in Economics or Social Sciences.
    • A Masters Degree in Economics, Law or Social Sciences will considered an added advantage
    • At least 3 - 4 years’ experience in a competition, public policy or legislative environment.
    • Ability to conduct research and undertake complex investigations within multidisciplinary teams.
    • Experience in information gathering and analysis.

     Other considerations:

    • Practical work exposure to area of expertise, such as sector regulation or competition law or economics, will be an added advantage.
