    Senior Infrastructure Engineer

    Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer for our Mining & Minerals office in Bryanston.

    Job Objective

    • Responsible for the civil and infrastructure engineering detail design on mining and minerals processing plant projects / studies.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensuring that the quality and content of deliverables of the infrastructure design discipline are in line with the needs of the client and regulatory authorities and responsible for engineering content, discipline design drawings and technical documents within a project / study.
    • Responsible for preparation and / or review of engineering deliverables including technical specifications, contract specifications, design criteria, calculations, reports, evaluations and other documents required by the project / study.
    • Input to capital estimates including quantity calculations. Assistance with man-hour budgets for engineering and drafting, recommend engagement of additional manning as required.
    • Provide feedback to the project engineering manager on design progress, budget and schedule.
    • Provide technical and commercial direction to engineers in relation to design quality, design schedules and design budgets.
    • Prepare and review feasibility studies documentation and estimates.
    • Ensure designs produced are cost effective and optimal in terms of constructability, maintainability, serviceability, and safe operation.
    • Ensure design engineering standards are maintained and adhered to on all projects.
    • Review tenders and produce technical adjudications / recommendations.
    • Review Contractor documentation for compliance with project specifications.
    • Analyze feedback from fabricators and construction personnel to improve performance.
    • Oversee and conduct site inspections.
    • Provide technical support during construction.
    • Conduct regular design group meetings within a project / study context.
    • Provide timely reports regarding all discussions held and progress made. Ensure all project correspondence is recorded.
    • Allocate work and provide technical assistance to discipline engineers and designers.
    • Input into progress reports, including listing achievements and highlighting issues as required.
    • Work closely with consultants, other disciplines and Project/Study Managers to ensure that client’s objectives are met in a timely manner.

    Skills / Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Tech. / B.Eng. – Civil engineering
    • Ideally registered as a Professional Technologist /Engineer with ECSA

    Knowledge, skills and experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years civil and infrastructure design experience in the mining and minerals industry, preferably worked within an EPC/EPCM engineering environment.
    • Detail engineering of roads, terracing, stormwater, ponds and network analysis of water and sewer pipelines.
    • Detail engineering of non-process facilities (offices, change houses, temporary and permanent housing facilities, etc.).
    • Technical Competence – in terms of core engineering theory from first principles and ability to extend theory to new and complex problems.
    • Well-developed computer skills and knowledge of word, databases spreadsheets and discipline related application software.
    • Strong analytical, literacy and numerical skills.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proven effective leadership skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Understanding of South African and common International standards and regulatory authority requirements in the mining and minerals processing sector.
    • Good commercial awareness/risk management skills.

    Estimating Manager

    Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Estimating Manager with extensive experience in the mining and minerals industry on large capital projects, including projects in remote locations and other countries, in particular third world countries.

    Job Objective:

    • Preparation, review, and submission of accurate estimates of how much it will cost to provide a client or potential client with services. This ensures accurate budgeting and planning can take place, supports the robust control of projects throughout their lifecycle to ensure the project can be delivered profitably.
    • Responsible and accountable for the development of project estimates and ensuring they are prepared to the required level of detail and accuracy in accordance with contractual requirements and Wood policies, procedures, and standards.
    • Guides and manages the project estimating team in terms of delegating work, reviewing the work output of the team where appropriate, providing guidance and support, and managing the development of the Estimating team members.
    • Acts as focal point for all aspects of estimating support to the project/contract team and client, managing the communications interfaces essential for the delivery of the estimates.
    • Responsible for ensuring systems, process, procedures, and standards are maintained. Accountable for identifying areas of best practise and driving continuous improvement within the Estimating team.
    • Accountable for ensuring cost estimates are documented and auditable and that project estimating norms and estimating data is maintained and issued in a controlled manner.
    • This role may be standalone or act as part of a team as determined by the requirements of the project/contract organisation.

    Skills / Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Typically requires ISCED level 6 (Bachelors) Degree in a relevant technical or business discipline (or equivalent gained through relevant vocational training and/or industry experience)

    Knowledge, skills, and experience:

    • Typically requires a minimum of ten (10) years of proressive industry experience, with at least eight (8) years in estimating positions.
    • Thorough knowledge of estimating techniques and systems with a detailed knowledge of how these are applied
    • Excellent understanding of project management principles and techniques
    • Excellent understanding of Cost Management, Change Control, Planning & Risk Analysis & Management
    • Prior experience in a Senior Estimating role and managing a team.
