Overview    

• The purpose of this role is to lead the design, installation, support, and continuous improvement of Centralised Blasting Systems in underground mining operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant system performance through technical expertise, training, audits, and customer engagement.

Qualifications    
Required:

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Diploma (Electrical/Electronic Engineering) and Trade Test

Advantageous:

• Certificate in CENTRALISED BLASTING SYSTEM installations
• Training qualification
• Underground blasting certificate
• Red seal (electrician)

Experience    

• 10 years of demonstrated experience in an underground operational / explosives mining environment
• 3 years demonstrated experience in Underground blasting systems (CENTRALISED BLASTING SYSTEM)
• 3 years on-the-job electrical installations

Duties    
Technical:

• Design a detailed electrical System installation layout (include knowledge of transformers, inductance, and power specification- be able to read and right electrical drawing).
• Understanding mine layout sketches- be able identify the Centralised Blasting System equipment quantities from the sketches.
• Knowledge of competitor’s Centralised Blasting System.
• Knowledge of underground mining methods.
• Knowledge of explosives accessories and their behaviour.
• Extensive knowledge of optic fibre and electronic communication medium.
• Drive marketing and presentations to customers.
• Attend to call-outs.
• Continuous remote monitoring and support to all Centralised Blasting System installed sites.
• Help in the continuous improvement of the Centralised Blasting System.
• Extensive travelling with regard to support to all Centralised Blasting System installed sites.

Installation:

• Manage Centralised Blasting System installation from start to finish.
• Develop a detailed System installation plan from start to end.
• System Commissioning.

Training:

• Develop training manuals.
• Conduct site Centralised Blasting System training (User, Engineering/technical and software trainings.
• System certification (DMR).
• Develop system operation procedures.

Audits:

• Perform Centralised Blasting System Audit and software upgrades.
• Conduct Centralised Blasting System (installation and operational) risk assessment.
• Conduct HAZOP of the system.
• Conduct robust system test (fire range).
• System blast and audit reports.
• Systems troubleshooting and fault finding.
• Issue complying certificates for the installation.

Overview    

• To lead and coordinate technical and operational training plans, making sure they are effective for training new staff members and developing the required skills in the existing training team to meet the needs of the business as it changes and develops.
• Will identify, maintain, and improve training programs.
• Lead the technical training team in SA and ensure mandatory training is adequately resourced.
• Will have a networking and guiding role for satellite training centers outside SA.
• Responsible for SETA related training, especially MQA training.

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Mining or technical qualification together with a training qualification
• HR aligned qualification with 5 years or more mining experience

Certifications:

• Skills Development Facilitator
• Exposure within Human Resources Management or Learning and Development a distinct advantage
• Registered assessor/moderator

Experience    

• Proven work experience as a Technical Training facilitator
• Minimum of 5 years of mining environment experience
• Experience working with the MQA
• Sound knowledge of modern education and best practices techniques
• Experience in updating, developing, and accessing training material and courses
• Experience in system implementation

Duties    

• The primary function of this role is to ensure adequate skills in the operational workforce to meet business demands.
• The role will have a mixture of team management responsibility as well as the presentation of programs.
• Ensure the Training Needs analysis, Skills Matrix and Annual Training Plans are completed, updated, and maintained per operational facility.
• Work with Senior Managers and Project teams to anticipate future requirements and direction. Have plans in place to develop the skills in the existing training team to meet the needs of the business as it changes and develops on the journey towards World Class Principles.
• Ensure required induction of newly appointed employees and contractors.
• Liaise with MQA, industry bodies, colleges on relevant areas of interest.
• Evaluate training programs on an annual basis to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Ensure timely completion of learning and support the embedding of key skills/functional skills.
• Introduce new technology to facilitate training – move to e-learning platforms.
• Reporting to required structures as required in line with position and department mandate.
• Guide and direct the satellite training facilities outside SA. With technology, roll out e-learning programs for some of the training interventions from SA.
• Assess and evaluate all training providers to ensure they all affiliated by a SETA.
• Develop a training budget, control costs and drive improvement in terms of training materials, labour, and productivity of direct reports.
• Demonstrate leadership of the training function by setting clear goals and targets that everyone is held accountable to.
• Provide training that fits with an “audit ready” philosophy to ensure that audits are not a special event.
• Ensures the safety culture element is incorporated into all training documentation and ensure that transfer is effective to improve safety standards across BME.
• Support any safety initiatives as required and suggest any improvements.
• To ensure the quality of the assessment process by working with internal moderators, line managers and attending regular standardization meetings.
• Work with line management in “problem areas” to develop suitable training material.
