    Pretoria Campus PYP Coordinator and K-8 Instructional Coach

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

    PYP Leadership & Programme Development:

    • Lead the Elementary School through all phases of IB PYP authorization, verification, and evaluation, ensuring alignment with IB Standards and Practices.
    • Serve as the official liaison between AISJ and the International Baccalaureate, managing documentation, reporting, and programme requirements.
    • Facilitate the collaborative design, articulation, and continuous review of the Programme of Inquiry (POI), ensuring vertical alignment, conceptual coherence, and transdisciplinary integrity.
    • Support the implementation of authentic, inquiry-driven assessment practices aligned with the PYP framework and Approaches to Learning (ATL).

    K-8 Instructional Coaching & Professional Learning

    • Coach, mentor, and support teachers through research-based instructional coaching practices, including co-planning, co-teaching, observation, feedback, and reflection.
    • Strengthen concept-based and inquiry-driven pedagogy, including play-based learning, differentiation, and inclusive practices that support diverse learner needs.
    • Collaborate with the Leadership Team, impact teams, and divisional representatives to design and deliver professional learning aligned with the school’s strategic priorities.
    • Support teachers in curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment practices that promote learner agency, transfer, and deep understanding.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    Educational Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (required).
    • Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field (highly desirable).

    Certification / Licensure

    • Valid teaching certification from an accredited body in the country of origin or an equivalent international credential (required).

    Professional Experience

    • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience in an elementary setting.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience as a PYP Coordinator, Instructional Coach, Team Leader, or similar role in an IB or international school.
    • Proven experience supporting inquiry- and concept-based learning and facilitating professional learning for adults.
    • Experience guiding a school through IB PYP authorization, verification, or evaluation is a strong advantage.

    JHB Campus Elementary School PYP Coordinator / Librarian

    Educational Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Education, or a related field is mandatory.
    • A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS), Curriculum Development, or Educational Leadership is highly desirable.

    Certification/Licensure:

    • Valid teaching certification/licensure from an accredited body in the country of origin or an equivalent international certification is required.
    • Specific certification or endorsement as a School Library Media Specialist is strongly preferred.

    Professional Experience:

    • Teaching & Leadership: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant full-time professional experience in an elementary setting, including proven leadership experience.
    • IB PYP Leadership: Demonstrated experience as a PYP Coordinator or significant teacher-leadership within an IB World School is essential. Experience successfully guiding a school through the IB authorization, verification, or evaluation process is a distinct advantage given the school's current candidacy status.
    • Library Management: Prior experience managing a school library or media centre is desirable.

    Key Responsibilities:

    PYP Leadership & Curriculum Development

    • Lead the Elementary School through the rigorous stages of IB PYP authorization, serving as the strategic driver for candidacy, verification, and evaluation to ensure strict fidelity to IB Standards and Practices.
    • Facilitate the collaborative design and articulation of the Programme of Inquiry (POI), ensuring vertical alignment, conceptual depth, and transdisciplinary connections across all grade levels.
    • Design and deliver targeted professional learning opportunities that upskill educators and inform community members, in concept-driven inquiry, play-based pedagogies, and authentic assessment strategies.
    • Act as a pedagogical reference and mentor for educators, utilizing co-teaching, feedback and reflection to enhance instructional quality and learner agency.
    • Serve as the official liaison between AISJ and the International Baccalaureate, managing all regulatory correspondence, program evaluation requirements, and curriculum documentation.
    • Collaborate strategically with other IB Coordinators and the Teaching and Learning Department to ensure the seamless articulation of the IB continuum and the alignment of pedagogical goals across the school.

    Library & Media Centre Leadership

    • Elevate and maintain the Elementary Library as the school’s "heart and hub," ensuring the space is a dynamic Media Centre that supports multi-modal learning and digital fluency.
    • Curate a diverse, current, and multilingual collection that reflects the school’s multicultural population, supports the Programme of Inquiry, and promotes Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (JEDI).
    • Collaborate with impact teams to co-plan and co-teach research skills and information literacy, ensuring learners become ethical and capable consumers and creators of information.
    • Foster a vibrant culture of reading for pleasure by organizing literary events, author visits, and initiatives that celebrate literature and engage the wider community.
    • Manage the library’s budget, resources, and digital platforms efficiently to ensure equitable access to high-quality learning materials for all learners and educators.

    Professional Practice & Community Engagement

    • Model and promote the dispositional competencies outlined in the Portrait of a Learner, fostering a culture where learners are equipped to be successful global citizens.
    • Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues, strictly adhering to the Seven Norms of Collaborative Work when leading planning sessions and analyzing learning data.
    • Engage in the wider life of the school by participating in supervisory duties, school events, and extracurricular commitments.
    • Champion a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment within the Library and across the school that prioritizes learner well-being and agency.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Grade 12 or N-4 Technical qualification
    • Relevant Certificate in (basic plumbing, carpentry, and building repairs)
