    Technician - Outside Services

    Description

    • We’re on the lookout for an Technician – Outside Services to support Outside Services and Farm Operations Superintendents in water, effluent, sewage treatment and solid waste handling operations.
    • Daily monitoring of plant performance and specifications to DWAF, SABS and ISO standards, including various administrative and performance monitoring / improvement tasks.

    As an Technician – Outside Services you will be responsible for:

    Operational Excellence

    • Support Outside Services and Farm Operations in achieving production and environmental objectives.
    • Recommend maintenance, upgrades, and improvements to optimise plant performance and resource utilisation.
    • Assist in executing plant activities (start-ups, shuts, inspections, log sheets, trending) to maintain stability and quality.
    • Monitor water, effluent, sewage, and stormwater systems to ensure compliance and take corrective action when required.
    • Conduct sampling, analysis, and reporting for soil, landfill temperature, waste, river flows, and bacteriological counts.
    • Manage and control raw materials (e.g., chlorine, alum, lime, polymers, caustic) to support continuous operations.
    • Provide technical support for environmental performance improvement projects and process modifications.
    • Participate in audits, coordinate RCA processes, and assist in closing out action items for Outside Services and the Farm.
    • Provide operational support to Sewage and Water Treatment Plants, including borehole sampling coordination.
    • Perform standby duties and act in the Superintendent role when required.

    Safety & Environmental Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with SHEQ requirements, investigate incidents, and drive corrective actions.
    • Maintain high housekeeping standards (5S) and support legal compliance for water, waste, and air-emissions licences.
    • Conduct BBS observations, report near misses, and promote a strong safety culture.

    Customer Relations

    • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding incidents and service concerns.
    •  Address customer feedback promptly and implement corrective actions where necessary.

     

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma in Environmental Science, Natural Science, or an equivalent field.
    • BTech / BSc / BEng in Chemical Engineering will be an added advantage.
    • NQF Level 4 Water and Wastewater Treatment qualification is advantageous.
    • Valid Code 10 driver’s license.
    • At least 2 years’ experience in water and wastewater treatment operations.

    As a Temp Reliever (Energy) – FTC you will be responsible for:

    • Take and hand over shift, ensuring smooth operational continuity.
    • Operate process equipment in line with best operating practices and safety standards.
    • Complete section-specific interventions and initiatives as planned.
    • Relieve operators and perform all prescribed duties for designated positions.
    • Assist the Foreman and operating staff during breakdowns and supervision when required.
    • Record and report all incidents, breakdowns, and equipment faults accurately.
    • Participate in shift activities, housekeeping, SHEQ compliance, and BBS observations.

    • Matric (Grade 12) with maths & Physics or N3 in Pulp and Paper.
    • A National Diploma in Pulp and Paper or Chemical Engineering will be advantageous.  
    • Minimum of 3 month’s relevant experience as a Process Trainee/ Production Intern within a production or pulp and paper environment.

    Senior Clerk - Khulisa

    Description

    We are hiring!

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Senior Clerk - Khulisa to provide efficient data processing and Forcelink system administrative support to the unit to ensure timeous and accurate payments and service is rendered to the unit’s stakeholders

    As a Senior Clerk - Khulisa , you will be responsible for: 

    • Provide first line support and administrative function at back office to Forcelink users’ challenges by tracking and addressing queries raised through Forcelink and relay these to Acumen support function to provide efficient resolution system whilst saving users time to focus on their KPIs.
    • Monitor turnaround time by drawing reports on queries raised by stakeholders including potential suppliers on Forcelink and assign tasks to relevant managers to help team adhere to the targeted 10 days turnaround response time.
    • Update RFP numbers, contract volumes, contract duration on Forcelink based on Ariba reports to ensure that FMs and Foresters do not procure timber on expired contracts and have data to track supply against contractual volume to counter theft.
    • Assist FMs and Foresters in ensuring that suppliers and their service providers are paid within a week by verifying and or unblocking vendor/customers to achieve the 10 days turnaround time and maintain supplier loyalty.
    • Update planting materials including chemicals and store inventory Forcelink based on nursery orders  and FM reports to ensure smooth execution of planting and maintenance plans.
    • Verify plot data, grower information on Microforest and SAP to eliminate the occurrence of duplicated silviculture payments to avoid financial loss to company.
    • Update grower loan accounts on Forcelink monthly using updates from SAP reports to ensure suppliers have their latest feedback balances to improve relations and supplier loyalty.
    • Initiate RFP process on Ariba new/renewal contract requests by - screen information received for correctness and accuracy; upload the contract information packs from PMs/FMs onto Ariba to ensure that no business transaction occurs without a legal agreement in place.
    • Distribute copies of signed agreements to the FMs via email to ensure compliance to contractual terms and execution of the agreement to meet KPIs.
    • Load and track contract approval process flow on Ariba to ensure effective and timeous completion of agreements. 
    • Assist Foresters by updating PEFC/FSC Certification status on Forcelink in order to ensure Khulisa prioritises sourcing certified timber.
    • Assist in developing and updating new forms and/or processes on MetaBuilder; Forcelink; Ariba etc. to ensure improved efficiencies in our systems.
    • Keep team members abreast of systems changes and distribute updates via e-mail to manage change and focus efforts on objectives.
    •  Assist Business Manager with consolidating; updating and editing reports using TCS; SAP; Forcelink and feedback from FMs and their teams to ensure that senior management and the team is updated on developments.
    • Export and file various cost reports including; loan balances and FZ Accounts from SAP; TCS; Forcelink in shared folders improve access to information to all team members.
    • Upload, update and maintain “NextCloud” a centralized control system/page – storing of all Khulisa agreements, FSC Documents, other Forcelink documents to improve access to information and backup documentation.
    • Assist by compiling & tracking Forcelink Change Requests as per changing business requirements and facilitate the process to ensure completion and testing.
    • Ensure regular communication and updates to all suppliers by managing the bulk SMS communication tool viz. Clickatel to ensure timeous and consistent updates reach all suppliers timeously.
    • Add and/or remove users to the Forcelink Grower App and ensure access to required Forcelink functionalities.
    • Assist by monitoring Khulisa monthly Forcelink licence fees and reconcile invoice against users and ensure all invoices are paid timeously.
    • Assist by uploading approved silviculture, harvesting and COBT rates on Forcelink to ensure APOs have up-to-date information.
    • Liaise with Nursery and regional teams to update monthly seedling cost allocations and cost centres.

    What are we looking for?

    • Grade 12
    • An Admin related qualification preferable
    • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience
    • Previous knowledge and/or experience in Forcelink/MicroForest/SAP would be preferable

    Divisional Planning Manager - KwaZulu Natal

    • We’re on the lookout for a Divisional Planning Manager to lead and manage the divisional planning function for Sappi's forestry operations, ensuring the development and implementation of strategic and tactical plans for a sustainable and cost-effective fibre supply to Sappi's mills.
    • This role is central to balancing the long-term health of the forest with the immediate and future demands of the business and to develop and maintain planning systems used to manage the timber resource for Sappi forests that will provide sound information for decision making.

    As a Divisional Planning Manager, you will be responsible for:

    • Overseeing the development, integrity and maintenance of the forestry planning software used by Sappi Forests.  Prescribes data capture procedures to maintain standards, conduct quality control of the data as it applies to growing stock.  Monitor and adjust processes to accurately estimate future growth.
    • Adherence to best practices and output data is conducted through formal audits, comparison of actual and planned results and through "reasonable" checks on output of the system itself.
    • Lead the development and execution of long-term strategic plans for the forestry division. Draws up long-term (20 year) timber supply plan using the data that resides in the planning system.  
    • The format of these plans vary depending on the application required, the 2 basic types are plans based on allowable cut or plans tailored to meet a specific set of demands.  Software developed to simulate the harvest scheduling process (HSS) is used.
    • Ensure that tactical plans (first 3 to 5 years) tie back to the first 3 to 5 years used in the 20 year plan through an iterative process between end users and regional planners, the latter interacts with regional operational staff, some intervention may be required.
    • Conduct ad hoc exercises to quantify available volume and products for specific projects.
    • Facilitates timber sourcing meeting between stakeholders, matches supply and demand from own, resources and project Khulisa suppliers
    • Extract standing ton information for Sappi RSA used in plantation fair value.
    • Manages effect of various forms of damage on plantation growing stock, quantify volume loss and draws up motivation for adjustments which is scrutinized by external auditors. 
    • Supervises a mensurationist and database administrator.  Must have clear understanding of mensuration and how PSP (permanent sample plot) program will provide data required for growth modeling. Understand data availability and reports that can be created to serve users requirements.
    • Compile and manage the departmental budget, ensuring that costs are well-managed and contained. Draws up budget and controls expenditure 
    • Oversee the gathering of information through enumeration, field surveys, and GPS work to ensure accurate data for planning. Manage and develop contractors responsible for enumeration and GPS work.
    • Provide input for financial forecasting and analysis related to forestry operations.
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the planning team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
    • Report progress on key statistics (e.g., areas, species, harvested and planted areas) to management and operational teams.

     What we are looking for:

    • Degree or diploma in Forestry or related science qualification
    • 8 years minimum experience in the Forest or related industry with at least 2 years in forestry planning
    • Strong computer literacy with in-depth working knowledge of MS Office
    • Understanding of forest growth and yield modelling and measurement will be advantageous.
    • Working knowledge of MicroForest and LiDAR technologies will be advantageous.

    Environmental Officer II

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Environmental Officer II to support and contribute to the sound environmental management of Sappi Forests’ activities, in order to meet national environmental requirements and maintain Certification.

    As an Environmental Officer II, you will be responsible for:

    • Provide technical input to environmental policies and procedures by reviewing information and the environmental requirements for Forestry to ensure the EMS is up to date.
    • Provide technical advice to line staff on implementation of procedures through extension to ensure the EMS is implemented correctly and certification is maintained.
    • Assess the impact of forestry activities by analysing and interpreting results (annual plantation audits, biodiversity and important conservation area monitoring) to identify forestry’s impact on the environment.
    • Conduct internal environmental impact assessments (EIA) by assessing impacts of developments to mitigate impacts on the environment.
    • Undertake environmental assessments and monitoring of important conservation areas through visits and surveys to ensure correct management of these areas.
    • Conduct environmental incident investigations by assessing impacts (alien invasive plant, erosion, grazing, browsing, poaching and mechanical damage) to recommend mitigation and repair.
    • Build and maintain awareness of the environmental or certification requirements through formal training, field days and a regular consultation service with own staff and contractors.
    • Write popular articles by reviewing and analysing available information for publication internally and externally that report on the impacts (positive and negative) of Sappi’s forestry activities.

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or Environmental Science or related qualification?
    • A BTech or BSc Hons degree in the relevant field will be advantageous.
    • 3 years relevant experience.
    • Code 08 drivers’ license.
