    Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor (CHEPD Director)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    The purpose of the proposed Centre for Higher Education Professional Development (CHEPD), and by implication the primary job focus of the Centre Director, is to ensure leadership, expertise, support and resources for the offering of formal professional development qualifications and programmes to capacitate university staff as university teachers. The purpose is aligned also to the NWU Teaching-Learning Strategy in which the professional development of academic staff is a central focus.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • PhD in the relevant discipline
    • 5-8 years overall experience as specialist in relevant industry or professional leadership inclusive off:
    • 5 years’ experience in higher education
    • 3 years’ experience in management

    ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:

    • Memberships of Higher Education Associations
    • Completed supervision of master’s student and for Associate Professor, promotion, or co-promotion of PHD student.
    • At least 2 publications in accredited journals

    Knowledge promotion of teaching and learning in Higher Education

    • Establish a niche research area in the field of Higher Education Teaching and Learning
    • Engage and promote knowledge production and sharing in the field of Higher Education Teaching and Learning
    • Provide intellectual leadership in the field of Higher Education Teaching and Learning

    Development of formal qualifications in HE

    • Conduct needs-analyses and conceptualise in collaboration with CTL formal qualification(s) in Higher Education
    • Conduct needs- analyses and conceptualise short learning programmes in collaboration with CTL that can articulate to a formal qualification
    • Oversee development, implementation and coordination of the teaching of formal qualifications

    Engage, collaborate with strategic higher education partners

    • Establish and build current networks of Higher Education expertise at faculty, institutional, national and international levels
    • Establish and build Higher Education partnerships and collaborations
    • Advocate and drive transformation for Higher Education Teaching and Learning

    • Leading the acquisition and maintenance of the laboratory accreditation with SANS and DAFF
    • Coordinate and monitor the day to day Management of the Animal Health Veterinary Laboratory and report writing

    Job description
    The Purpose of the position is to render psychological support to students

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Coordinating Therapeutic Services

    • Coordination of psychotherapeutic systems like walk-in clients, counselling, and psychotherapy.
    • Conduct counselling and psychotherapy with students from the Vanderbijlpark Campus and UODL
    • Development of different protocols for therapeutic systems.

    Crisis Intervention

    • Render crisis intervention and short-term trauma intervention to Vanderbijlpark Campus and UODL students.

    Liaison and Service Delivery

    • Liaise with various divisions on campus in professional service delivery, e.g., Disciplinary Office, Substance Abuse Programme, Concessions Panel, etc.

    Student Development

    • Development and presentation of pro-active workshops.

    Psychometric Assessments and Selections

    • Conduct psychometric assessments and offer feedback at SCD when required.
    • Assist with selection procedures for various courses (psychometrics, panel interviews, etc.) when required.

    Training and Support

    • Participate in coordination of Student Counselling and Development training, development and support services across the various campuses of NWU.

    Minimum requirements

    • Master’s degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (NQF9) (Essential)
    • Registration as a Psychologist at HPCSA (Essential)
    • 5 years’ post internship experience of Psychotherapy and Psychometrics (Essential)
    • 3 years’ experience in crisis interventions (Essential)

     KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • Knowledge of peer–counsellor systems and training of Peer Helpers
    • Appropriate knowledge in psychology, crisis intervention and other therapeutic techniques
    • Experience in supervision and training of Registered Intern Psychologists
