    Academic Development Officer

    Job description

    • The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) is committed to student access, support, and success.  
    • The Office of the Dean of Teaching and Learning at CLMS seeks to appoint Academic Development Officers (ADOs) for a three-year, full-time contract with benefits.  
    • The post is renewable, subject to the performance of the incumbent and the availability of external funding.
    • The successful candidates will report to the Academic Monitoring and Support Coordinator and the Head of the Teaching and Learning Unit.  
    • A completed PhD and experience with Supplemental Instruction or the FYE programme will be an advantage.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Master’s degree in one of the specialisations in the College of Law and Management Studies.
    • Minimum two years of experience as an ADO/ Team Leader/ Coordinator/ Lecturer/ Teaching Assistant/ SI Leader/ Tutor/ Mentor; with experience in academic monitoring and support, academic development, student support programmes.
    • Minimum two years of experience undertaking research, extracting and analysing data.
    • Minimum two years of experience in planning, coordinating and overseeing academic or student support programmes.

    Dean: College Research

    Job description

    • The incumbent will represent the College on the University Research and Ethics Committee, and support the DVC for Research and Innovation and the University Dean of Research in implementing and developing policy, and overseeing consistency of policy application.
    • They will chair the Research Committee of College of Law and Management Studies, and be a member of the University Senate and other academic structures.
    • The College Dean will report jointly to the College DVC for Law and Management Studies and the University DVC for Research and Innovation.
    • The incumbent will be expected to lead strategic partnerships with higher education institutions continentally and globally, and support the college in attracting academic staff and research students, and in promoting the conduct of significant research. 

    Minimum requirements

    • Relevant PhD/Doctoral degree.
    • Professor/Associate Professor with at least three (3) years’ experience in an academic/research leadership role.
    • Track record of attracting competitive research grants.
    • An established research/academic leader and scholar with an excellent publication and research record and proven excellence in research at a level that attracts respect and credibility from within the University, international scholars and other relevant external bodies.
    • A broad understanding of research developments in the various disciplines within the relevant College at a regional, national and global level.

    Essential Skills

    • Excellent communications skills.
    • Exceptional interpersonal relationship skills.
    • Understanding of the higher education environment in South Africa and the relevant legislation.

    Lecturer (KIiswahili)

    Job description

    • The successful candidate will be expected to teach and supervise students in African languages at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • The candidate will also be expected to develop strategies to promote Kiswahili within the university community and in the province.
    • The incumbent will report to Academic Leader: African Languages, Linguistics and Development Modules Cluster.

    Minimum requirements

    • A PhD degree in Kiswahili OR Master’s degree in Kiswahili with evidence of submission of PhD for examination.

    Director: Infrastructure Planning and Projects

    Job description

    • Provide strategic and operational leadership for university-wide infrastructure and project management services.
    • Lead capital improvement and major renewal projects from concept to completion.
    • Manage relationships with external consultants, contractors, and service providers.
    • Develop and implement the Campus Master Plan and ensure alignment with UKZN’s vision and strategic priorities.
    • Ensure strict financial oversight of capital project budgets, cash flows, and reporting compliance.
    • Lead human resource development and discipline management for internal infrastructure teams.

    Minimum requirements

    • Master’s degree in Built Environment disciplines and/or sub-disciplines.
    • Registration as a Professional Construction Project Manager (SACPCMP), Professional Architect (SACAP), or Professional Engineer (ECSA).
    • Ten (10) or more years of relevant post-bachelor’s degree qualification experience managing large-scale (at least R50 million) infrastructure development projects.
    • At least five (5) years in a senior role leading the management of multiple, complex, multi-million-rand infrastructure or construction projects, including aspects such as design coordination, procurement, stakeholder engagement, and contract administration.
    • Proven ability to lead cross-functional professional and technical teams of at least 10 direct and/or indirect reports.
    • Strong financial planning, control, and reporting experience.

    Finance Manager

    Job description

    This position is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the following aspects of the financial operations of the College and Schools:

    • Budget planning and control for the College and Schools.
    • Financial reporting for the College and Schools.
    • Asset management for the College and Schools
    • Financial reporting for research contracts and other grants – to principal investigators, funders, College DVC/CMC, Deans and CFO.
    • The Manager will develop and execute robust financial policies, improve operational efficiencies, and ensure compliance with relevant university policies, regulations, and procedures.
    • The Manager will work collaboratively with senior leadership in the College and external research funding bodies.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Degree in Financial accounting AND an Honours in Accounting or equivalent AND a completed 3-year CA training programme (i.e. articles).
    • Chartered Accountant South Africa – CA (SA).
    • At least 5 years post articles experience of which 3 years should have been at managerial level.
    • Experience with managing a team of at least 5 people.
    • This position will report to the Director College and Research Finance
