    Philanthropy Research Intern - JHB

    Job Overview:

    • Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships, the Prospect Researcher supports the growth of MSF SA’s Major donor, corporate, trust and foundation (called One-to-One) revenue program and the relationship management activities of front line fundraisers:
    • By identifying individuals and organisations who will have the propensity, affinity and capacity to give to MSF SA
    • By researching and providing contact and other relevant information on the current portfolio (of major donors, trusts & foundations and corporate donors)
    • By collecting necessary data and preparing reports
    • By maintaining an updated planning to deliver grant proposals and reports in due time
    • We are looking for a proactive and analytical individual with a commitment to confidentiality and high ethical standards. The Prospect Researcher will have the ability to synthesize and translate his/her research into practical suggestions/actions to the One-to-One team fundraising goals.
    • The Prospect Researcher will have to be an individual with an interest in prospect identification and research. He or she should be highly computer literate with high level oral, written communication and data presentation.

    Key Task and Responsibilities:

    Prospect Research and management;

    • Identify and qualify new prospects by researching and analysing individuals, foundations, and corporations for their potential interest in MSF, giving potential, and propensity to donate.
    • Conduct prospective donor research, including identifying active mid-level donors for potential upgrade through active data mining, rating and ranking.
    • Rate donors (lapsed or mid-level) and prospects in terms of inclination and capacity, and consult with fundraising team on cultivation and solicitation strategies, including participation in prospect review and pipeline management sessions.
    • Maintain a robust qualitative report tracking system for major donors and prospects including the recording of meetings, outcomes, next steps and follow up strategy.
    • Write confidential research profiles on individual, corporate and foundation donors/prospects for meetings and strategic planning, and prepare background briefing notes for staff in preparation for donor/prospect meetings.

    Administrative support to the Philanthropy unit:

    • Participate in donor meeting debriefings with the One-to-One team and other staff/volunteers as needed/requested to ensure outcomes and next steps are recorded and donor profiles and research notes are updated appropriately.
    • Provide administrative support to the One-to-One team in recording donor/prospect contacts and moves as requested.
    • Collect data to fulfil the reporting needs
    • Update the tracking system for trusts & foundations/corporate donors and prospects, based on research into grant eligibility criteria and application guidelines.
    • Keep current of all recent trends in the Southern Africa NGO sector, the culture of philanthropy (especially in Africa), prospect research and incorporate any relevant information into briefing materials and regularly report on opportunities to appropriate staff.
    • Monitor policies and procedures for the prospect research program and update protocols relating to prospect management and donor confidentiality (POPIA ACT and GDPR).
    • Other duties as required to ensure the continued success in MSF SA’s Fundraising activities.

    Requirements:

    Education;

    • Relevant tertiary qualification in marketing, business administration, data sciences.

    Knowledge and skills;

    • Excellent analytical skills and ability to locate and interpret financial and biographical information from a variety of sources.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, e-mail and database management.
    • Demonstrate deep understanding of prospect research methodology and donor cycle.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in the methods of acquiring relevant donor information.
    • A keen interest in philanthropy and the development of African philanthropy space.
    • Skilful in drafting and editing research and briefing materials.

    Multimedia Assistant - JHB

    Accountabilities:

    Interviews;

    • Assist the Multimedia Producer with filming International Mobile Staff (IMS) interviews to gather unique stories for AV content production.
    • Take photo portraits of all interviewees for upload to our database.
    • Transcribe all interviews using transcription software and upload onto the story library database to prepare for scripting of the AV content.

    Content Production;

    • Edit AV content (interviews and “evergreen/always-on”) in line with MSF AV guidelines and processes, under the management of the Multimedia Producer and the Communications Manager (Input Team).
    • Implement changes and edits to AV content throughout the review and approval processes, involving the Multimedia Producer and Communications Manager (Input Team).
    • Participate in brainstorming and planning for new content projects.
    • Assist the Multimedia Producer with the production of AV content to fulfil Section department communications needs, namely Fundraising (retentions), Operational Support Unit and Field HR.

    Reporting;

    • Ensure that all new content requests are logged and processed for reporting purposes.
    • Update Multimedia Producer weekly on activities and production schedule.

    Skills & Competencies;

    • Adobe creative suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
    • Excellent written and spoken English and ability to edit and caption materials in English.
    • Proven organisational skills and ability to complete projects within set of deadlines.
    • MS Office 365.
    • Knowledge of other languages an advantage, particularly Portuguese, other Southern African languages.

    Requirements;

    • National Diploma or Bachelors degree in multimedia, photography, video production, or related qualification.
    • Proven multimedia or communications work experience and portfolio of work.
    • Experience in creating AV content for various social media formats.
    • Content development experience.

    Purchasing Officer: Butterworth, Eastern Cape

    SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

Performing the day-to-day purchasing activities in a particular supply office (project level) according to MSF protocols and standards in order to ensure the optimal running of the mission/ project. 

    OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES  

    • Carries out the purchases of a supply office based on purchase documents issued and manages the administrative and accounting procedures related to purchasing.
    • Constantly assess the local market, seek products and suppliers that offer the best value for money, and negotiate prices. 
    • Responsible for follow-up of local purchases by updating purchase order follow-up sheet on a monthly basis. 
    • Prepare orders, encoding in Unifield, seek validation from content responsible within the project.
    • Generate and prepare local purchase lists/orders in Unified. 
    • Settles advances to the finance department daily/weekly with clear commitment documents. 
    • Check if internal Requests (IRs) have the necessary information for processing. 
    • Follow up on requests in Unified and process after validation. 
    • When it is required, check with technical staff for clarification of requests. 
    • At the line manager's request, different quotations from suppliers should be obtained according to the Doctors Without Borders Purchasing policy. 
    • Place purchase orders to pre-selected suppliers with whom prices have been agreed. 
    • Manage the administrative and accounting procedures related to purchases: complete purchase orders, check delivery notes (against orders), etc. 
    • Assists in the reception control process 
    • Request invoices or receipts for all purchases without delay, check they are correctly filled, and translate information written in the local language before approval. 
    • Responsible for filing documents, correspondence, and other papers relating to supply in the Project and the archives.
    • Monthly feedback to clients on backorders, stock status to project supervisors and line manager

    GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: 

    Education: 

    • Essential: National diploma or professional qualification in Purchasing, Supply Chain or related fields 

    Experience: 

    • Essential: Minimum 1 year’s experience in Supply chain 
    • Unified or similar experience is essential. 
    • Proficient computer skills, including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel 
    • Desirable: previous experience in a similar job profile within the NGO sector 
    • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
    • Ability to work independently, show initiative, time management and problem-solving skills. 
    • South African citizenship or a valid work visa is a must 
    • Language: Fluency in English (Read & Write)
