    Job Description

    Established in 1936, The Federated Employers Mutual Assurance Company (RF) Proprietary Limited (FEM) is a mutual insurer operating under license from the Compensation Commissioner and our business is governed by the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act of 1993. FEM is registered as a non-life insurer in terms of the Insurance Act 18 of 2017.

    FEM is looking to appoint an experienced sales and business development professional who is target driven and enjoys a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining and exploring new business and servicing existing policyholders in respect of the operations of the business.

    The position requires a candidate that can:

    • Execute sales strategies to achieve company targets.
    • Identify and engage potential policyholders through various channels.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing policyholders.
    • Conduct product presentations and demonstrations for prospective policyholders.
    • Negotiate and close deals to meet or exceed sales targets.
    • Provide exceptional customer service and after-sales support.

    Technical Team Lead (Developer)

    Job Description

    • Applications are invited for the Technical Team Lead position in Head Office based in Rosebank. The objective of this role would be technical leadership and hands-on development expertise within our software development team.  The successful candidate would be responsible for designing, developing and delivering secure, scalable and high-quality solutions using modern Microsoft technologies.
    • The minimum requirements of the position are Matric with either a recognized diploma or B degree in IT or relevant proven experience with full stack development. Agile, web design and development of multi-tier application experience required. Domain driven design is preferable.
    • The position requires a minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Software Developer in an enterprise environment, proficient in C#, .NET, Entity framework, Angular, Oracle and SQL Server, Cloud (preferably Azure) and DevOps.

    Junior QA Tester

    Job Description

    • FEM is looking to appoint a Junior QA Tester at our Head Office. The successful candidate will support the delivery of reliable, high-quality software by executing defined quality assurance activities within a DevOps and Agile delivery environment. The role focuses on manual testing, defect management, and developing automation testing skills under supervision, while contributing to continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) processes.
    • The successful candidate will work closely with developers, business analysts and senior QA team members to ensure software quality standards are maintained throughout the development lifecycle. The individual will be responsible for executing test cases, identifying and reporting defects, supporting quality assurance activities, and continuously developing their technical and business knowledge within a collaborative software development environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices and payments using Sage X3. This role ensures that all creditor transactions are recorded in compliance with internal financial controls, company policies, and relevant accounting standards.
    • The Creditors Clerk plays a key role in maintaining healthy supplier relationships through effective communication and prompt resolution of queries, while also supporting internal and external audit processes.

    Assistant Company Secretary

    Job Description

    • FEM is looking to appoint an Assistant Company Secretary at its Head Office, based in Johannesburg. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the overall objective of this role is to support the Company Secretary in ensuring the effective implementation of corporate governance practices, regulatory compliance, and board administration.
    • The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating governance processes, supporting Board and Committee activities, maintaining statutory records, facilitating regulatory compliance obligations, and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the organisation's governance framework.
    • The successful candidate's responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
    •  Supporting the Company Secretary in maintaining high standards of corporate governance and regulatory compliance across the organisation. Key responsibilities include coordinating Board, Board Committee, shareholder, and stakeholder meetings; preparing governance calendars, meeting schedules, agendas, and Board packs; drafting minutes and resolutions; monitoring the implementation of Board decisions; and supporting Board evaluations, director induction, and ongoing development initiatives.
    • The role will also provide governance-related support to directors and facilitate effective communication between directors, executives, shareholders, regulators, and other stakeholders.

A Company Secretarial qualification, governance-related certification, postgraduate qualification in Corporate Governance, Business Administration, Insurance, or Risk Management, or a professional qualification in Corporate Governance or Chartered Governance will be advantageous.
    • Candidates must have a minimum of 2 to 3 years' experience in corporate governance or company secretarial functions, together with a sound understanding of the Companies Act and King V principles.

    Operational Finance Manager

    Job Description

    • FEM is seeking a highly skilled Operational Finance Manager to lead and manage the Operational finance function. The successful candidate will ensure the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of all operational financial activities, financial controls, reconciliations, reporting, system improvements, and audit management.
    • The activities relate to both claims and premium processes within the Operational Finance Department.
    • This role is critical in safeguarding financial integrity, supporting regulatory compliance, driving continuous improvement, and providing strong leadership within the finance team.

    The key responsibilities of this role include:

    • Overseeing, reviewing, and approving bank payment releases with strict adherence to internal controls.
    • Preparing and reviewing monthly journals, trial balance reconciliations, and other month-end processing.
    • Preparing and reviewing Income Statement and Balance Sheet reconciliations.
    • Preparing monthly management reports with variance analysis and commentary.
    • Preparing and reviewing quarterly statutory and regulatory reports.

    • Reviewing and verifying operational approvals in line with SOPs, legislation, and internal controls.

    Education Requirements:

    • BCom Accounting (or equivalent) with Honours and more than 7 years Finance experience, or
