    Service Technician

    The Big Picture:

    • Howden Africa Compressors & Turbines Division is looking for a Service Technician to provide technical, service and aftermarket- customer support during field service activities on various types of compressors, fans, centrifugal, roots type blowers and turbines. Diagnosing machinery, process and operating problems on rotating machinery and auxiliary equipment. The position will be based in Sasolburg.

    What needs to be done?

    • Ability to interpret- understand PID, drawings, manuals etc related to all types of compressors, turbines and blowers.
    • Perform service/repair on rotational equipment
    • Perform service/repair on multi-brand compressors; both oil injected and oil free
    • Navigate multi-brand compressor controllers to obtain data to assist in troubleshooting
    • Install new equipment (Construction Job Sites, and Retrofits)
    • Perform troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance
    • Must be able to complete tasks in a timely, self-directed manner
    • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
    • Maintain positive customer relations while resolving concerns and answering questions
    • Conduct statutory and insurance examinations on rotational equipment
    • Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions
    • Produce timely and detailed service reports
    • Follow all company’s filed procedures and protocols
    • Cooperate with the technical team and share information across the organization
    • Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations
    • Managing of service contracts on customer sites
    • Maintain Health and Safety on all site as per Howden and end users standards
    • Laser alignment of equipment
    • Commissioning of plant
    • Support workshop associates when required

    What do you need to bring?

    • Trade test certificate in Fitting or National Higher Diploma in Mechanical engineering
    • A minimum of 6 years related experience in rotating equipment field
    • High level of analytical ability is required in order to find solutions to technical problems both mechanical and electrical
    • Proficiency in problem-solving, process analysis and capacity to troubleshoot
    • Read and comprehend written technical information in the form of technical manuals, drawings, parts books, and relevant publications is essential
    • Must be medically fit to perform duties
    • Must be familiar with job site safety requirements
    • Computer skill set along with strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
    • A firm commitment to customer service excellence in all circumstances
    • Basic Technical knowledge of Rotating Equipment, Reciprocating Compressors, Gas Compressor Engines & Turbines. Roots and centrifugal blowers
    • Valid passport holder, a valid driver’s licence and overhead crane.

    EHS Manager

    The Big Picture: 

    • Howden Power, a Division of Howden Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for an experienced EHS Manager for Fixed Term (2-years contract) who will be responsible for the EHS department’s efficient operational functioning on the Lethabo Power Station So3 upgrade project and comply with legal, client and own internal EHS standards (Legal and Customer requirements). 

    What needs to be done?

    • Coordinate, revise and approve risk assessments and method statements. Ensure internally approved documents are approved by the client where applicable.
    • Developing and executing health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines, client specification and own policies.
    • Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
    • Plans, implements, manages, and maintains comprehensive environmental safety & health programs on premises or at project site locations.
    • Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management. Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.
    • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
    • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations.
    • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measure.
    • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics.
    • Communicate the safety drive of Howden to associates and customers on site.
    • Contractor management.
    • Identify training needs and request / arrange for training as required.

    What do you need to bring? 

    • Grade 12.
    • Samtrac or B-Tech or National Diploma in Health and Safety Management or Environmental Health or any other recognized Health and Safety Course
    • SACPCMP registration as a CHSM
    • HIRA, Legal Liability and COID Act Training
    • Basic scaffolding erecting and dismantling training.
    • Root Cause Analysis Technique training.
    • Working at Heights training.
    • Construction Regulations (latest version of the Regulations)
    • HAZMAT training, Basic firefighting and Rigging awareness training
    • Local to Lethabo Power Station surrounding areas
    • Good knowledge of company product and company processes, requires mechanical insight.

    Project Engineer

    The Big Picture:

    • Howden Power, a Division of Howden Africa is looking for a Project Engineer to manage and sell spares related projects from small scale to complex and multidiscipline engineering projects from the tendering stages to manufacturing and delivery to the client, ensuring on-time completion at an appropriate cost and with the required level of quality.

    What needs to be done?

    • Build ongoing customer relations with existing and potential clients in order to support the securing of new business in future.
    • Execute spares projects by coordination between different departments and divisions, drawing office & engineering, site service team, quality, supply chain.
    • Manage cash flow and the projects finance by managing supplier commitments on projects while tracking and pursuing invoicing milestones to maintaining a positive and favourable cash flow .
    • Manage the integration between project engineers, procurement, quality and suppliers to ensure that completion dates are met within project parameters.
    • Prepare costing and compile the tenders to the customers using the provided spares margin guidelines in order to achieve and maintain our dominant position in the market and ensure our position is not compromised through a perception of overcharging.
    • Manage supplier costing and challenge the pricing where necessary by ensuring only the market related increases are applied using the SEIFSA indices and guides.
    • Actively managing changes, variations and amendments to our contracts
    • Attending client and site project progress meetings and reporting progress on status and risks to management.
    • Manage and ensure adherence to health and safety standards in compliance with company policy and legislative requirements in order to provide a safe working environment for all employees

    What do you need to bring?

    • Diploma/ Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Minimum 5 years project management experience.
    • At least 3-5 years’ experience within the power industry.
    • An understanding of fan and pre-heater products.
    • Negotiation skills.
    • Ability to communicate well at all levels with good presentation skills.
    • A valid Code 08 driver’s licence.
    • MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Projects.
