    Product Specialist - Harmonization

    Job Description

    To ensure the consistent and uniform execution of the mandated Citrus and Table Grape functions by all operational personnel, assigned under the PPEC, APS and Food Safety legislation to keep the organization at a high level of competence and at the forefront of market access for all South African perishables.

    High level job objectives:    

    • To verify employee competencies working on Citrus and Table Grapes;
    • To maintain relationships with clients and customers to provide a quality customer (Operations) service, based on identified needs; 
    • To assist in upskilling employees;
    • To assist in mitigating risks; and
    • To ensure compliance to PPECB policies and procedures.

    Knowledge:

    • PPECB Institutional knowledge;
    • Knowledge of relevant Product Standards and Requirements, work instructions SOP’s, MOU’s, MOA’s, SLA’s, handling protocols and handling procedures and Risk Management systems (Citrus and Table Grapes as main focus); 
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation;
    • Knowledge regarding implementing and coordinating training interventions;
    • Knowledge of assessing learning and moderating learning;
    • Auditing knowledge;
    • Risk management knowledge;
    • Knowledge of training strategies;
    • Knowledge of planning at business unit level;

    Job Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Tertiary Qualification in Food science, Food Technology, Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental studies or any other relevant tertiary qualification; 
    • Moderator, Facilitator and Assessor certificate; 
    • Competent in Relevant Major and minor Export product disciplines, Citrus and Table Grapes is critical;
    • Train the trainer training;
    • Management Development Programme / Leadership Development Programme; and
    • ISO auditing certificate. 

    Experience:

    • Experience in Relevant Major and Minor Export product inspection - 15 years;
    • Experience in a supervisory role - 5 years; 
    • Experience in conducting training as part of the CI and Senior Inspector - 5 years;
    • Experience in report writing - 5 years;
    • Experience in assessing portfolios - 5 years;
    • Experience in Moderating POE;
    • Experience in facilitating classroom-based and online training interventions - 5 years;
    • Risk management experience - 5 years;
    • Planning experience;
    • Experience in arranging internal and external training interventions;  
    • Experience in the implementation of training strategies;    
    • Stakeholder management experience;
    • Conflict management experience; and
    • Auditing experience.

    Inspector - Natal Region

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    •  Applying roles in Inspection, Cold Chain, Food Safety and Export Certification related to the specified geographical area.
    • Coordinating compliance to prescribed processes, procedures and protocols within the framework of the Agricultural Product Standards Act.
    • Ensuring adequate competency levels within the Harmonization framework.
    • Inspection and certification of perishable products.
    • Inspection of the handling, storage and transport of perishable products.

    Job Requirements

    • A tertiary qualification in an agricultural discipline with at least 3 years relevant work experience as a competent inspector. Please note: Candidates with less experience, but with proven outstanding performance will be considered in line with PPECB’s EE policy.
    • Knowledge, understanding and experience of all inspection services relevant to the specified geographical area.
    • Competency in any of product inspection in the listed disciplines below
    • Maize, Citrus ,Grapes, Pome, Stone, Subtropical and any Minor products, including Soft skills which total equate or more than 50 credit points

    Junior Inspector - Ceres Area Office

    Job Description

    The Operations Department has a vacancy for a Junior Inspector (Graduate) to conduct inspection of products and equipment according to standard protocols as prescribed through PPECB’s legislative mandate. The contract is for the peak of the Stone season (which is more or less from January until March 2024)

    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Computer literate.
    • The ability to work independently and / or with minimum supervision.
    • A valid code 08 driving license and own reliable vehicle is a requirement for doing the job.

    • Experience in Food Safety and self assessment audits will be an advantage
    • Technical competencies on the following Cold Chain principles: Normal and Cold Treatment container loading, container inspection cleanliness and PTI, container on board sensor calibration,  Vessel carrying instructions, Cold Treatment  conventional vessel inspection, calibration and loading. Normal conventional vessel inspection  and loading.
    • Knowledge and understanding of cold chain disciplines currently on TITAN.
    • The candidate must meet the minimum of 90 credit points on technical skills, including having attended the Ithrive and supervisory courses.
