    Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor: Actuarial Science

    Background

    • The Department of Actuarial Science offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Actuarial Science through which exemptions are offered from the examinations of the Actuarial Society of South Africa for the A100, A200, A300 subjects and some of the F100 subjects. The Department collaborates with several departments including Economics, Statistics, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering as well as the UP Natural Hazard Centre on research projects related to finance, risk management, insurance and banking.

    Responsibilities

    • The successful candidate will be expected to lecture and participate in curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate level. In addition, our actuaries are expected to participate in the undertaking and supervision of research projects.

    Minimum Requirements
    A Fellow Member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (FASSA). Fellow members of other Actuarial Societies e.g. FFA, FIA, FIAA who are prepared to obtain a FASSA may also be considered.
    In addition to FASSA, the following requirements apply per level:
    Lecturer

    • Master’s degree or at least three years’ post qualification experience.

    Senior Lecturer

    • PhD or actuarial experience of at least five years’ post qualification.

    Associate Professor

    • PhD degree or actuarial experience of at least ten years’ post qualification and a record of peer reviewed publications.

    Added Advantages And Preferences

    • Lecturing experience will be an advantage.

    The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.

    LECTURER (ONE POST)

    • The Department of Physiotherapy at the University of Pretoria's Faculty of Health Sciences recognises that lifestyle intervention (including safe participation in physical activity) is a key component in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The Department wishes to equip physiotherapists in combatting NCDs by developing an active research focus in this area, as well as growing teaching and learning programs at undergraduate and post-graduate level.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Physiotherapy with special focus on spinal cord injury rehabilitation, , including general adult neurorehabilitation;
    • The clinical accompaniment of students mainly in spinal cord injury rehabilitation, , including general adult neurorehabilitation;
    • Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research in the above areas and general physiotherapy;
    • Conducting own research and contributing to the Department’s research profile;
    • Facilitate disability sports research collaboration with the Sport, Exercise Medicine and Lifestyle Institute (SEMLI) at the University of Pretoria;
    • Promoting quality academic education and professional training;
    • Fundraising for own research and departmental research activities.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • A master’s degree  in Physiotherapy (In spinal cord injury rehabilitation and/or general adult neurorehabilitation);
    • At least one accredited publication by the Department of Higher Education Training (DHET);
    • Registration with the HPCSA as a Physiotherapist.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Good verbal and written communication skills;
    • Good interpersonal and mentoring skills;
    • Good computer skills;
    • Scientific writing skills

    ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

    • Postgraduate and clinical supervision experience at a tertiary institution;
    • A good  research record in one of the Department’s research specialisation fields;
    • Experience with internal and external stakeholders and professional boards;
    • Experience in research fundraising (grants).
    • A valid driver’s licence

    Academic Coordinator - Department for Education Innovation

    Responsibilities
    The incumbent will be required to provide academic support to all MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Programme students and coordinate all related activities.

    Working with the MCFSP Manager and team, the Coordinator will participate in the selection and on-boarding of successful applicants. During the process, the transition challenges of scholars will be addressed empathetically. Critically, this person must be able to engage professionally with scholars’ concerns in a caring, supportive, fair and transparent manner.
    The Co-ordinator will ensure that the undergraduate scholars in the MCFSP remain on track to obtain the qualifications for which they are enrolled within the prescribed period of time.
    The incumbent will also be responsible for data collection and rigorous reporting on students’ progress.
    Minimum Requirements

    • A Master’s degree in Psychology, Educational Psychology or Social Work;
    • Four years’ experience of which at least two years were spent as tutor, mentor or student counsellor;
    • Experience in Project Management.

    • Empathy and a passion for improving the lives of others; maturity and judgment to be an effective ambassador of the Programme;
    • Ability to analyse data and use technology; to analyse quantitative data; to analyse student results at the end of each semester and recommend changes to better support students;

    • Capacity to navigate and constructively engage with cross-boundary/cultural diversity.

    • A PhD in a relevant field;
    • Experience in project management at a Higher Education Institution;
    • Experience in working with university students in an orientation, advisory, retention, student life, residence life, service learning or closely related field will be a strong recommendation;
    • Having worked with international students;
    • Two years’ experience managing externally funded educational projects;
    • Valid driver’s license.

    The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment as determined by UP policy guidelines.
