    Metallurgy Manager: Gold and BIOX

    Job Description

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • To perform the role of Manager: Gold & BIOX within the division. The responsibilities and authorities of the Manager in the Gold & BIOX division in relation to post requirements of managerial, technical and key support personnel are outlined.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The incumbent will lead and control all activities of staff and liaise with all relevant Departments (Gold and BIOX).
    • Responsible for the day-to-day technical coordination and operation of the division.
    • Data processing / control, reporting of testwork according to company guidelines with minimal input from the line manager. This includes writing up reports, be it progressive or final.
    • Creating the context for the work within which certain objectives need to be achieved. This implies planning and structuring of task.
    • Responsible for monitoring of consumable levels within the Gold & BIOX division and expenses in conjunction with the divisional manager.
    • Evaluation of results and interpretation thereof.
    • The position often takes on the role of coach and instructor to explain how the work should be performed.
    • Management, training and direction of subordinates in quality, testwork methodology, safety and time management.
    • Meet company targets with respect to turnover and local costs.
    • Plan weekend test-work and monitoring of the tests over weekends and public holidays is executed accordingly.
    • Plan, set–up and commission all Gold & BIOX testwork.
    • Formatting, editing and setting up of forms required to record laboratory test work results and associated data.
    • Responsible for the effective and appropriate use of equipment and facilities with good housekeeping.
    • Responsible for resource planning and testwork scheduling of the division.
    • Assist the Met - Min Operations Manager as and when required.
    • Formatting, editing and setting up of testwork proposals/quotations.
    • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
    • Responsible for the effective and efficient running of the Gold & BIOX, with very low equipment downtimes.
    • Assist management with the development, effective utilization and supervision of human resources for the division, including training, recruitment and discipline.
    • Assist with results evaluation and troubleshooting.
    • Provide input in CAPEX requirements for the division.
    • Coordinate the division’s project execution effectively.
    • Assist the division with achieving project TAT.
    • Maintain client relationships.
    • Perform any other reasonable task(s) as assigned by the direct line manager.

    • Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or enter hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and report the situation to a higher authority to take action.
    • Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to a higher authority to take action.
    • Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
    • Any person has the right to refuse to perform work that may damage the environment in an imminent and serious way and to report such a situation.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • BSc and or MSc in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy.

    Experience

    • Minimum of 8 to 10 years in the relevant field

    Competencies  

    • Good people management and communication skills. Must not be afraid to communicate relevant details and specifics with key stake holders, be it internal or external Clients, colleagues, seniors or subordinates alike.
    • Reputation to drive projects to completion within specified timelines i.e. at all times displaying a sense of urgency to meet or exceed the Client’s requirements.
    • Ability to work fast and accurate by implementing good time management skills.
    • Work neat and organized by keeping all equipment, files and associated paperwork in order.
    • To have an unwavering work ethic thereby building trust in a courteous manner.
    • Must be “hands-on” and take accountability when conducting any projects ascribed to him/her.

    Compensation and Benefits Manager

    Job Description

    Leading the payroll processes and ensure high qualitative management (less than 1% error)

    Managing and leading the payroll team. Ensuring full compliance with legislation. Coordinate and collaborate with other departments for tax year end closings and other statutory regulatory requirements.

    • Responsible for the accurate administration of the Payspace payroll system and salaries payrolls
    • Manage and direct payroll operations by signing off the final payments to employees
    • Lead and manage the payroll team
    • Ensure the accurate and timeous administration of new employees or terminations as well as personal information changes
    • Partner with Human Resources and Finance in ensuring all required deadlines are met and accuracy of information is maintained
    • Ensure compliance of Tax and statutory requirements across all payrolls
    • Liaise with the internal and external auditors and the finance department to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standard operating procedures, and financial deadlines
    • Signing off expat payroll
    • Authorize and oversee changes to payroll system parameters to ensure technical correctness, access, and correctness of payroll applications to meet business requirements
    • Implement and advise on corrective measures in terms of identified financial risks to be applied to ensure compliance with relevant human resources, financial and payroll tax legislation, policies, and standard operating procedures
    • Sign off and authorize third party payments in accordance with internal risk management controls
    • Develop and manage payroll staff to ensure that they have the required skills and can perform and achieve their key job accountabilities and performance objectives
    • Submission of Returns of Earnings (WCA reports) to the Department of Labor. Letters of Good Standing for all entities to be finalized by 30 April each year
    • Recommend, develop, and implement sound payroll policies and procedures to ensure best practice and compliance with relevant legislation
    • Ensure that the payroll functions align with business needs and can offer a quality service always
    • Assistance with due diligence process as and when required for acquisitions
    • Reconciliation of all payrolls to GL, including control accounts and provision accounts
    • Good understanding of segregation of duties
    • Knowledge of Risk benefits, approved, unapproved, board of management meetings, trustee meetings, fringe benefit tax etc.
    • Responsible for all SARS queries and IRP5 e-filing and Easy File submissions
    • Assist and validate the IRP5’s done by the payroll supervisor – Annual and Bi-Annual submissions
    • Support management with annual salary review reports, budget costs
    • Reporting on ICOFR – payroll cycle reports, Annual Incentive share schemes, expat costs, Corporate Sustainability reporting, Headcount reports, overhead tracking reports, Corporate Bonus calculations, etc.  
    • Annual Mercer submissions
    • Using mail merge, administer increase letters for corporate employees, MD directs, union, hourly paid employees, and normal employees
    • Bargaining Council knowledge advantages
    • Manage the performance and service delivery of the team, i.e., to take overall accountability for the performance of the team and the execution of duties in line with their delegated responsibilities

    Qualifications

    • Training in Payroll and cost accounting knowledge
    • Bachelor’s Degree in commerce will be an advantage
    • Grade 12 Certificate
    • Global or Multinational payroll reporting experience and knowledge
    • Minimum of over 3 years Payroll experience in Multinational/Global Management role
    • Minimum of 5 years in Payroll Management
    • Payspace payroll system advantageous
    • Mercer submission
    • Bargaining Council
    • Keen understanding and application of relevant labor legislation
