    Trainee Manager (Springbok)

    Purpose of the Job    

    This management role will see you: 

    • Planning and organizing the medium and long-term activities of the branch
    • Monitoring stock to ensure that it meets the required level
    • Ensuring that set targets are achieved to maintain business growth
    • Managing staff by delegating tasks and allocating resources efficiently

    Junior Buyer

    Purpose of the Job    

    • The Junior Buyer will assume responsibility for the planning, sourcing, selection and purchasing of specified goods, ensuring effective and profitable planning of goods in the correct quantities, at the right time, place and price.
    • The role aims to improve on the productivity and profitability of the department through the efficient execution of daily tasks, whilst at the same time maintaining good relationships with suppliers and various stakeholders in the business. The Junior Buyer also provides additional support as required to the Buyer and Senior Buyer functions within the team.

    Job Objectives    

    Range, Product & Pricing Execution

    • Execute product range building and line determination
    • Provide input to formalise article assortment, stock levels and price points
    • Conduct product reviews to assess performance and identify gaps
    • Assist with product selection for seasonal and core ranges
    • Support onboarding of new products and delisting of underperforming items
    • Maintain accurate product master data and categorisation
    • Execute pricing activities, including updates, markdowns and promotional pricing
    • Monitor competitor pricing and highlight risks/opportunities
    • Assist with margin tracking and flag pricing discrepancies

    Merchandising, Promotions & In-Store Execution

    • Execute merchandising layout determination to support product visibility and sales
    • Assist with planogram development and implementation
    • Ensure alignment of product placement to range and promotional strategy
    • Support planning and execution of promotional and advertising events
    • Monitor in-store execution and compliance with merchandising standards
    • Track promotional performance and highlight gaps or issues
    • Liaise with stores to resolve merchandising and display challenges

    Stock Management & Supply Coordination

    • Maintain stock levels across stores and distribution centres
    • Monitor stock movement, sell-through rates and replenishment needs
    • Support forecasting and replenishment planning activities
    • Identify and resolve stock shortages, overstock and supply issues
    • Follow up on supplier deliveries and resolve delays or discrepancies
    • Coordinate with DC and suppliers to ensure product availability
    • Support stock takes and investigate stock variances
    • Administration, Supplier Coordination & Insights
    • Administer purchase orders and invoice processes accurately and timeously
    • Maintain supplier records, pricing agreements and related documentation
    • Provide day-to-day administrative and functional support to Buyer/Senior Buyer
    • Support supplier communication, queries and order follow-ups
    • Assist in coordinating supplier meetings and product presentations
    • Liaise with internal stakeholders (stores, DC, marketing, planning) to resolve issues
    • Perform market and competitor research
    • Analyse basic sales and product performance data to support decision-making

    Qualifications    

    • Grade 12 / matric – (essential).
    • Diploma in Business, Finance, Logistics, Supply Chain or a related field – (beneficial).

    Experience    

    • +2 years’ experience in similar capability, in a Pet Shop store environment, with suppliers or manufacturing or in a retail store – (essential).

    Knowledge and Skills    

    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 – (essential).
    • Exposure to analytics tools - (desired)

    • The Group Company Secretary assures the Board that governance processes, records, and statutory obligations across the Group are executed accurately, consistently, and on time.
    • The role enables effective decision-making through disciplined meeting administration, strong information and entity record management, and by advising on directors’ duties, regulatory requirements, and escalation of material compliance and risk matters.
    • The role monitors legislative and regulatory developments, advises on implications, and supports the Board and its committees to make properly constituted decisions that protect the Group’s reputation and legal standing.
    • It maintains independence and discretion, reinforces disciplined Board processes, and ensures timely, accurate and confidential communication with key stakeholders.

    What you'll be accountable for: 

    Statutory and regulatory compliance (Group and subsidiaries)

    • Deliver Group and subsidiary company secretarial services in line with the Companies Act and applicable regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure adherence to all legal and regulatory frameworks across the Group.
    • Advise the Board on governance best practice and facilitate board evaluations.
    • Develop and implement governance policies and procedures that strengthen internal governance and decision-making.
    • Board advisory, director support and governance capability-building
    • Provide comprehensive support to the Board, Chairperson, non-executive directors, and committee chairs.
    • Ensure timely preparation and distribution of board and committee packs, maintaining a disciplined governance rhythm (annual calendars, agendas, pack cut-offs, minutes, action tracking, and work plans).
    • Escalate and report non-compliance with the Memorandum of Incorporation or applicable regulations.
    • Facilitate director onboarding, induction, and ongoing governance training tailored to individual needs.
    • Support the nomination committee in director appointments.
    • Enable annual board, director, and senior management evaluations.

    Governance assurance and information governance

    • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and communicate relevant changes to the Board and management.
    • Maintain a governance assurance framework that gives the Board confidence in the effectiveness of governance controls.
    • Oversee entity governance, ensuring accurate, complete, and up-to-date records and filings across jurisdictions.
    • Maintain strong information governance for Board and shareholder materials.
    • Manage declarations of interest, conflicts, and related-party transactions, ensuring proper disclosure, approvals, and records.
    • Identify and manage legal, regulatory, and governance risks, including advising on controls and escalation.
    • Collaborate with internal and external legal counsel as required.

    Function leadership and continuous improvement

    • Lead and develop the company secretarial team, building capability and performance.
    • Foster a high-accountability, collaborative culture focused on accuracy, timeliness, and continuous improvement of governance processes.

    Qualifications    

    Essential

    • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB), Business Administration, Commerce, or related field.

    Preferred

    • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field.
    • Chartered Secretary (or equivalent) certification.
    • Experience with board pack systems and disciplined information governance practices.

    Experience    

    Essential

    • 6+ years’ experience in a Group Company Secretary or related governance role.
    • Proven experience engaging at a senior strategic level.
    • Strong corporate governance experience within complex organisations (e.g. retail, financial services).
    • Deep understanding of relevant legislation and legal frameworks.
    • Strong business acumen with the ability to rapidly assimilate information and communicate clearly to Boards and senior leadership.
    • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

    Knowledge and Skills    

    • Strong expertise in governance frameworks and statutory obligations.
    • Confident, credible Board-facing capability with high discretion.
    • Exceptional attention to detail with a structured delivery approach.
