    Head of Human Capital

    Purpose of Role:

    The Head of Human Capital provides supportive leadership, direction and guidance for the strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations of the Human Capital Department. Providing support in the development and implementation of strategic goals with regards to culture, diversity and transformation, the full recruitment cycle, performance management, employee wellness, leadership and professional development of employees across the network.

    Requirements

    Responsibilities:

    • Assertively leading the Human Capital team in the day-to-day functions and operations with the result of a collaborative, cohesive and efficacy-based team of committed employees who instill a climate and culture of service in all that they do.

    • Actively drive the process of developing company values and behaviours that support a culture that is aligned to our mission.

    • Develops network strategies by identifying and researching human capital needs; contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to network strategic thinking and direction; establishing human capital objectives in line with network growth and strategic objectives.

    • Develop and apply change management processes and tools to create a strategy to support adoption of the changes required by the strategic priorities of the organisation following impact analyses, the assessment of change readiness and identification of key stakeholders.

    • Develops human capital operations and financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements, trends, and variances; aligning monetary resources; developing action plans; measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions and minimizing the impact of variances.

    • Provides input into the development of annual human capital metrics, which support the network’s objectives of maintaining the culture, the ability to attract talent, sustainable performance, employee wellness, succession planning and leadership development.

    • Interprets and ensures compliance and on-time reporting with regards to the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Employment Equity Act and all other relevant acts as per current South African legislation. Drives ongoing compliance regarding B-BBEE as well as SACE and/or other professional bodies within the network.

    • Development, implementation and monitoring of a network diversity and transformation strategy aligned to the growth and strategic objectives of the network.

    • Initiates and accomplishes special project results by identifying and clarifying issues and priorities; communicating and coordinating requirements; expediting fulfilment; evaluating milestone accomplishments; evaluating optional courses of action; changing assumptions and direction.

    • Overseeing the implementation of fair labour practice and healthy employee relations.

    • Take accountability for the outcome of industrial relations matters with an ongoing focus to mitigate labour, commercial and reputational risk.

    • Through organisational design, oversee the productivity and efficiency of the organisation.

    • Ensure the integrity of human capital data. Enforce compliance with ethical and legislative (POPI) standards guided by the company values and mission.

    • Updates job knowledge by participating in conferences and educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

    • Postgraduate qualification advantageous

    Experience:

    • 7 to 10 years Human Capital generalist experience within a service or educational environment or a similar environment.

    • 5 years of people management experience.

    Chief Operating Officer (COO)

    Purpose of Role:

    A position has been created for a senior and widely experienced Chief Operating Officer to take direct responsibility for the SPARK Schools operations portfolio while contributing to the development of SPARK’s highly capable and driven team. The position requires a COO who will effectively execute across all business scenarios to eliminate operational and tactical issues before they arise.

    Departments reporting to the COO:

    • Human Capital

    • School Achievement, compliance and registration

    • Company operation including facilities, property maintenance, health and safety and procurement

    • Sales and Marketing

    Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

    Requirements

    Responsibilities

    • Drives the execution of the organisation's strategic goals and mandate through the development and delivery of a operational and tactical implementation plan for SPARK Schools covering five years which will include, school achievement, operations management, organisational development related to the SPARK team and the financial resources required for this plan to be achieved.

    • Environmental scanning, risk mitigation and operational and tactical strategy formulation to ensure the successful operations of new and existing schools.

    • Together with the CEO and other executives, actively participate in successfully communicating to the rest of the organisation in order to:

      • Drive the formulation of operational and tactical plans to enhance organisational effectiveness and execution.

      • Help develop, document and iterate systems, structures, processes and services that result in a scalable, effective, quality support system for schools, scholars and parents.

      • Help develop the control systems that measure and give feedback on the impact of operational decisions and performance, the organisation’s financial health and key business metrics.

    • Continually challenges the management team to go beyond the industry status quo related to costs management and innovation.

    • The research and development of new operational and tactical partnerships.

    Qualifications and Criteria:

    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and criteria:

    • Significant experience at senior executive committee or C Suite level in an appropriate multi site organisation or franchise for a minimum of 5 - 10 years.

    • Direct skill or background in the areas reporting to this post will be a distinct advantage.

    • Prior experience in a high growth multi site environment or in an environment related to the educational sector could also be an advantage.

    Geography/History Teacher (FET Phase)-

    Reports To: Assistant Principal or Principal

    Purpose:

    SPARK Schools teachers drive student achievement by maintaining high expectations for classroom culture, behaviour, and academic growth for all scholars. SPARK Schools FET Phase Geography/History Educators are content specialists in the Social Sciences. SPARK high school FET Phase educators equip scholars with the knowledge and tools required for matriculation and work collaboratively in leading an integrated inquiry-based curriculum.

    FET Phase Geography/History Educators are integral to the SPARK Schools’ culture and our commitment to rigorous, engaging learning experiences for our scholars.

    Requirements

    Responsibilities:

     

    • Plan for, teach and co-teach face to face and distance lessons for and deliver academic and clubs lessons.

    • Collaborate with grade level and content area partners to develop rigorous, engaging learning experiences and to create and implement high quality individualised behaviour and learning plans for scholars.

    • Participate actively in all scheduled professional development sessions.

    • Develop and administer formative and termly assessments to track student progress and analyse the data for student growth for all scholars to meet the required proficiency ratings.

    • Submit and analyse scholar data in order to track progress and intervene when necessary.

    • Lead scholar social and emotional development through CQ (Character Quotient) sessions and reflections.

    • Plan for, deliver and monitor programmes to support low performing scholars, or extend high performing scholars.

    • Participate in place-based education where required within mandated national curriculum or as part of SPARK Schools curriculum enrichment.

    • Participate in career and tertiary pathways education where required as part of scholar culture and character development.

    • Develop SPARK culture and implement behaviour management strategies.

    • Communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues, parents and other stakeholders.

    • Conduct self in a professional manner at all SPARK Schools events and to all stakeholders.

    • Nurture a high ­achieving work environment where all scholars feel genuinely valued and supported.

    • Promote the vision and mission of SPARK Schools to staff, scholars, families, and the greater community.

    • Implement strategies implemented by the Crisis Management team. Adhere to the child protection, anti-bullying and health and safety policy.

    • Attend Saturday events and parent community meetings.

    • Submit student results data when required.

    Qualifications and Criteria:

    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

     

    • English language fluency

    • Completed B.Ed or PGCE degree in History and Geography FET Phase.

    • SACE registration

    • Clear criminal record
