    Head of Government Affairs - Southern Africa

    Position Summary

    The position will be responsible for managing all of Visa’s interaction with key government officials, policy makers, public influencers and regulators in these key markets in Southern Africa: Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

    • Visa is well positioned to leverage potential partnerships with national government agencies particularly in the areas of financial inclusion, economic digitization, the delivery of social services, government disbursements and collections, and other potential government programs that may benefit from the application of digital payments
    • The expansion of the industry in general, and Visa in particular, is not hindered by intrusive political or regulatory intervention
    • Visa’s profile and reputation are optimized through the delivery of coordinated communications and education targeted at key central bank officials, regulators, government officials, and other policy makers
    • Visa’s outreach and messaging is consistent with similar efforts in other key markets around the world.

    Key responsibilities for the position

    • Develop and implement an effective Government Affairs strategy for the areas of responsibility
    • Lead the development and building of stakeholder relationships with Governments, businesses and non-governmental organizations at all levels
    • Ensure that Government Affairs plans are aligned with Visa’s strategic business objectives
    • Establish and maintain effective long-term relations with Governments and other external stakeholders at the appropriate levels
    • Monitor the regulatory and policy management environment in Southern Africa to make timely interventions to protect Visa’s commercial interests
    • Identify opportunities and support business development programs and initiatives
    • Manage day to day Government Affairs operations and represent Visa at relevant forums in various markets
    • Ensure optimization of meeting targets and Government Affairs objectives by introducing best practices
    • Build and maintain internal relationships and enhance an understanding of the function within the company

    Job Scope

    • Reports to the Head of Government Affairs for Southern and Eastern Africa in Johannesburg
    • Works very closely with country, CEMEA hub-level, and global colleagues including country management, Corporate Communications, Legal, Marketing, Strategy, Risk Management, Social Impact and Products departments
    • Liaises closely with Government Affairs colleagues around the world to develop and refine best practices
    • Works with cross divisional business teams as subject matter expert on policy and regulatory issues and government affairs.
    • This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or similar in Law, Public Policy, International Relations or related fields
    • At least 8-10 years experience in government relations, regulatory or public affairs role

    • Proven track record and experience in all aspects of developing and implementing stakeholder relations strategies
    • In-depth knowledge of the local business and political environments in the Southern African markets.

    Controllership, Geo Lead – South and Southern Africa

    Job Description

    Purpose

    • The Senior Analyst / Manager, Controllership Operations supports the Head of Controllership for SEA and WCA and plays a pivotal role in driving operational governance, financial integrity, and process excellence across the region.

    This senior role requires a strategic, innovative thinker who is energetic, driven, and highly analytical, with a strong ability to:

    • modernize processes
    • leverage AI and automation
    • redesign systems and workflows
    • enhance operational efficiency
    • strengthen governance and compliance
    • The role acts as a trusted business partner, supporting client and cardholder projects, coordinating financial and operational activities, and ensuring all processes comply with Visa policies and procedures. This position also engages directly with country teams and leadership across South and Southern Africa to support strategic initiatives and operational execution.

    Principal Responsibilities / Key Result Areas

    Governance, Controls & Compliance

    • Serve as a subject‑matter expert on policies, controls, and governance requirements.
    • Oversee monitoring and governance routines such as Control Committee Meetings and pre‑closure review processes.
    • Conduct in‑depth reviews of high‑risk and high‑value projects to identify gaps and prevent recurring issues.
    • Support remediation of control deficiencies, audit findings, and compliance issues.
    • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Controllership, and Sourcing on internal control adherence and deviation management.

    Operational Leadership & Business Partnership

    • Act as a strategic partner to country teams, providing insights, guidance, and solutions to support business execution.
    • Manage and enhance the operations pipeline tracker, workload distribution, and performance monitoring.
    • Support cross‑functional initiatives including marketing campaigns, client projects, procurement workflows, and VIK processes.
    • Provide operational and project support for corporate events, campaigns, and business initiatives.
    • Deliver expert advice and training to business teams on policies, tools, templates, and compliance requirements.

    Innovation, Systems, AI & Process Reengineering

    • Lead or support process re‑engineering initiatives aimed at simplification, standardization, and improved control.
    • Identify and design automation opportunities and AI‑enabled solutions to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
    • Participate in and influence system enhancements, ensuring strong business input and effective change management.
    • Champion a culture of continuous improvement and digital transformation across South and Southern Africa controllership operations.

    People Development & Team Support

    • Support the onboarding of new team members and provide mentorship and guidance to junior colleagues.
    • Ensure training materials and SOPs remain relevant, updated, and aligned to regional needs.
    • Share best practices and operational insights with the broader South and Southern Africa and Hub teams.

    Strategic Nature, Management Accountability & Scope

    • Contribute directly to the execution of annual controllership and operational strategy for SSA.
    • Provide senior‑level support to the Senior Director of Operations Support, including leadership of key initiatives.
    • Support strategic decision‑making through analysis, risk identification, and business insights.
    • Influence operational improvements across multiple markets with varying regulatory and business environments.

    Decision Making & Complexity

    • Operate with a high level of autonomy and judgement in addressing issues and recommending solutions.
    • Manage complex interactions with Sales, Marketing, Products, Acceptance, Sourcing, Legal, Compliance, and Controllers.

    Reporting Relationships & Interactions

    • Reports to: SSA Senior Director, Operations Support

    • Required to engage confidently across all levels, including senior leadership.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferably in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field).
    • Greater than 10 years’ experience in accounting, compliance, internal controls, audit, or operations (multinational experience preferred).

    Senior People Advisory Manager

    Job Description

    • Visa’s Global People Advisors team is focused on balancing our capability, capacity and delivery of Visa’s people agenda through people related services and solutions for our clients. This is a key function that supports Visa’s People Team transformation and will continue to evolve and expand as the team grows and solidifies.  The Senior Manager is a generalist with a client centric mindset to provide consultative, advisory services to support People Leaders and who leads with empathy in responding to workplace matters and interactions. It also plays a key role on driving consistency to enable efficiency and improve employee experience and enhance our strategic impact as a People Team.
    • Accountable for areas which include but are not limited to coaching and guiding people leaders on individual talent development, annual compensation review, performance management, employee engagement, annual talent management review​, biannual promotion cycle, conflict resolution, and other policy interpretation and consultation.  
    • Coach, trains and challenge People Leaders on a variety of people related situations and programs like performance management, conflict resolution, talent development, annual review support, etc. Coaches and develops strong, empathetic leaders to ensure people leaders have the attributes aligned to Visa’s Leadership Principles.
    • Lead efforts with People Leaders to facilitate effective management of teams and resolve issues that may arise in the workplace between employees and managers. 
    • Accountable for managing low performance coming out of the annual performance cycle and through the year to drives high performance in the organization and aligns with company objectives.
    • Provide detailed analytics and interpretation of data to drive informed business decisions in the areas of accountability, ensure operational excellence in reporting and data management.
    • Respond to inquiries and provide overall cross functional support as needed,
    • Partner with COEs and the business to design and deliver best in class People initiatives in the areas of accountability.
    • Reporting to the People Advisor leader for CEMEA with matrixed relationship to the People Business Partner for Sub Saharan Africa, the incumbent will play a key role on elevating the people leader experience.
    • Provide support for regulatory and legislative reporting and processes required in the HR domain for the respective market supported, where applicable. Ensuring all policies are updated and communicated to employees.
    • Working with the wider People team, make recommendations and implement changes to existing policies, processes and systems recognizing systemic bias
    • Support organizational change initiatives, providing guidance and support to ensure successful adoption and implementation.
    • Work closely with the I and D lead for CEMEA to own and implement components of the I and D initiatives through the PA partners across all sub-regions, in order to create a supportive work environment for all employees. 
    • Partner with PBP and Learning COEs to identify skills gaps and develop training programs to enhance employee capabilities to support career development as well as promote I and D learning programs.
    • Leverage data and metrics to inform our I&D approach, communicate priorities and measure progress.
    • Consult and advise on ERG campaigns and initiatives to ensure they align with the I and D and business strategy.
    • Manage annual ERG planning process and monthly connects with ERG leads.

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

    • 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
    • Preference for candidates with Manager 5 to 7 years of experience in a related field, particularly as an HR generalist managing medium to complex people-related challenges within a global, multinational, matrixed company context.
    • English language proficiency required.
    • Juggle priorities and have an eye for detail to ensure delivery is always on time and accurately delivering objectives.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects effectively in a fast paced, deadline and driven environment.
