KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Installation:

• Install refrigeration systems and cooling units specific to QSR environments, such as walk-in freezers, cold storage units, and ice makers.
• Connect systems to electrical, mechanical, and plumbing lines, ensuring compliance with South African building and safety codes.

Preventive Maintenance:

• Conduct regular inspections and servicing of refrigeration units to prevent breakdowns and maintain optimal performance.
• Ensure all equipment complies with food safety regulations (HACCP standards).

Repairs:

• Diagnose and repair faults in refrigeration equipment to minimize downtime in restaurant operations.
• Respond promptly to emergency repair requests to avoid service interruptions.

Compliance and Safety:

• Handle refrigerants according to SANS 10147 standards and SAQCC Gas regulations.
• Ensure refrigeration systems meet South African food safety and environmental standards

Requirements

Education & Certifications:

• Matric certificate (Grade 12).
• National Certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (NQF Level 3 or higher).
• Registration with SAQCC Gas as a refrigeration practitioner.
• Valid driver’s license.

Experience:

• At least 2–3 years of experience in refrigeration, preferably in the QSR or hospitality industry.
• Familiarity with the specific refrigeration systems used in QSR kitchens, such as under-counter chillers, blast freezers, and beverage cooling systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist the RGM in the achievement of CHAMPS Standards within the restaurant by ensuring that all employees are focused on exceeding customer expectations for cleanliness, Hospitality, Accuracy, Maintenance, Product and Speed of Service.
• Manage shifts in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures including directing the activities of employees in maximizing sales, operating efficiency and profitability.
• Allocate responsibilities to each employee on shift and monitor performance accordingly.
• Ensure that all employees follow correct maintenance procedures in accordance with the established maintenance roster and advise RGM of any repairs or maintenance required.
• Ensure that controls and procedures are implemented to protect the safety and security of employees, customers, property, and company funds are maintained by all employees on all shifts under supervision.
• Report to the ARM/RGM any aspects of employee relations, customer service, health inspection issues that are likely to affect the operation of the restaurant.
• Assist the ARM/RGM to implement restaurant training programmes for staff to enable them to maximize performance and realize their career potential.

Requirements

INHERENT REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB

• English Proficiency
• Numeracy Proficiency
• Computer Skills – knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
• Minimum of 6 months in an All Star Position
• All Star Certified + Individual Development Plan (IDP) in place
• Grade 12 NQF Level 4 and preferably a suitably related tertiary qualification
