    Senior Communications Officer: Marketing and Communications

    • This position requires a Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate qualification Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage.
    • This position also requires 4 years of work experience in relevant field.
    • The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: budgeting or financial management training; digital marketing training; customer relations, professionalism, events management experience; media relations experience; background of advertising management and digital communication; brand management; stakeholder management experience;
    • knowledge of the tourism sector; advanced planning, organising, and problem solving skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; report writing skills, people management skills, excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) will be advantageous. The possession of a valid driver’s license with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.

    Key Performance Responsibilities include:

    • Champion communication and media engagement on behalf of the garden;
    • Pioneer marketing for the Free State National Botanical Gardens (NBGs)
    • Plan, coordinate, and manage events for the Free State National Botanical Gardens as well as expositions and functions;
    • Manage stakeholder relationships; and
    • Secure commercial partnerships that would benefit the Free State National Botanical Gardens.

    Senior Technician: Biobanks (SANParks Veterinary Wildlife Biobank)

    • This position requires a National Diploma in Life Science/Ecology/Biology/Botany at NQF 6 with 4 years of work experience in Biobank Management environment or a Degree in Life Science/ Ecology/ Biology/ Botany at NQF 7 with 2 year of work experience in Biobank Management environment, and 1 year experience in research, procurement, logistical, records management, project and event management. Honours or equivalent degree at NQF 8  will be an added advantage.

    The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position:

    • knowledge and understanding of biobank operational requirements including the collection and long-term storage of biological materials; standard laboratory practices and procedures; data management skills and ability to operate electronic databases; must demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks; strong computer literacy with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including  MS Excel, Word and Power  point;
    • ability to work  independently and as part of a team; excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent organisational skills and a proactive approach to managing tasks. The possession of a valid driver’s license with at least one year of practical driving experience and  willingness to travel and work away from home is essential.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

    • Render Support Services within the Unit;
    • Ensure Laboratory Coordination and Sample Management;
    • Perform research duties;
    • Attend to Administration and Financial duties; and
    • Provide research support to scientist, and supervision to interns.
