    Library Assistant - (1917)

    The primary role of the Library Assistant is to support library learning, teaching and research activities, particularly those related to open science, virtual reference and user services.

    Main duties and responsibilities include: 

    • Perform library user services duties i.e. Circulation; Short loans; ILL etc.
    • Perform basic cataloguing & databases searches
    • Provide support to research services 
    • Perform virtual & in-person reference services
    • Collection development and maintenance
    • Assist and participate in Library marketing and other projects.

    Minimum Requirements

    Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)

    • A Bachelor of Library & Information Science or an equivalent library qualification
    • One year’s working experience in a library, preferably academic or research setting

    Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes): 

    • Experience with user services
    • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
    • Good knowledge of MS 365 Office
    • Knowledge of library management systems and databases 
    • Exposure to open science activities

    Senior Library Assistant - (1918)

    Main duties and responsibilities will include: 

    • Accredited Journals and Transformative Agreements
    • Bibliometric data retrieval and analysis
    • UWC Scholar activities (Publications and ETDs) 
    • Research support activities and training programmes 
    • In-person and virtual reference services
    • Compile reports and perform other functions under the designated manager/s 

    Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)

    • A Bachelor of Library & Information Science or an equivalent library qualification
    • Two years’ working experience in an academic or research library setting
    • Experience with Scopus and/ or Web of Science
    • Experience with institutional repositories

    Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes): 

    • Knowledge of library management systems
    • Knowledge of institutional repositories
    • Knowledge of citation analysis
    • Experience with online reference platform
    • Planning and organisation
    • Knowledge of MS 365 Office

    Systems Administrator: Networks - (1885)

    The Key Responsibilities of the incumbent include the following: 

    • Member of the Networks unit responsible for overall network support across multiple campuses,
    • Configure, implement, maintain network equipment including core, datacentre and enterprise switches, AP’s, WLC, IPT and routers,
    • Contribute to development of procedures and processes for enterprise network operations,
    • Contribute to developing technology standards and best practices for the enterprise network,
    • Contribute to the team in analysing technology industry and market trends, and determining potential impact upon the enterprise,
    • Support integrated network technologies such as LAN, WAN, Wireless, convergence and other digital communication technologies,
    • Requisite strong network design background, configuration and optimisation skills,
    • Contribute to documenting and maintaining inventory of network equipment and topology,
    • Contribute to network capacity planning,
    • Familiar with network monitoring tools and troubleshooting techniques,
    • Work closely with the datacentre infrastructure team,
    • Experiential exposure to network best practice frameworks, change control, opensource technologies and operating systems. 

    Minimum Requirements

    • A NQF7 (or higher) level qualification with three years in a datacentre environment.

    or

    • Matric plus relevant accredited (industry recognised) professional certification/s (for example CCNP, CCNA, Network+, etc) with demonstrated 5 years’ experience in a datacentre environment at a large organisation or educational institution.

    Minimum competencies required: 

    • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, 
    • Ability to work across interdisciplinary teams,
    • Ability to analyse and resolve problems swiftly using a range of network diagnostic tools and techniques,
    • Ability to adapt to new technologies, 
    • Ability to adapt to best practice frameworks to secure the network,
    • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, policies and processes as related to the network infrastructure environment.

    Specialist: Systems Backup and Business Continuity - (1892)

    The Key Responsibilities of the incumbent include but are not limited to:

    • Assume primary responsibility for the backups, restores, business continuity systems and functions,
    • Ensure backup, and business continuity systems are optimally operated by application of sound best practices, maintenance, operational and administration tasks,
    • Contribute to developing technology standards and best practices for backup and business continuity environments,
    • Contribute to the team in analysing technology industry and market trends, and determining potential impact upon the enterprise,
    • Be familiar with legislation and implementing best practices to manage retention and expunging of data,
    • The role provides 3rd level troubleshooting services in order to quickly investigate, diagnose, resolve, recover and document incidents relating to backups, backup infrastructure and system environments,
    • Plan, implement, maintain and control backup and recovery procedures,
    • Control that these procedures are updated and executed regularly,
    • Test that these procedures perform their functions correctly,
    • Maintain archived data on tape. Change, manage and test backup media (tapes),
    • Monitoring, repairing, reporting and other day-to-day tasks associated with maintaining backup resources in an optimal fashion,
    • Respond to and resolve storage access problems, retrieval issues, backup device status, and other issues,
    • Adhere to ITIL procedures for storage change management, CMDB accuracy, problem management and incident management,
    • Install and configure new and existing backup devices and corresponding software,
    • Collaborate with other team members in capacity planning and provisioning for future backup requirements,
    • Monitor and troubleshoot backup device status,
    • Perform recovery (restores) as required,
    • Work closely with the datacentre Infrastructure team.

    Minimum Education and Experience required:

    • A NQF level 7 or higher qualification with three years Backup/business continuity/disaster recovery experience in a datacentre environment,

    or

    • Senior Certificate (with Bachelors pass) and relevant accredited (industry recognised) professional certification/s in Backup/business continuity/disaster recovery with demonstrated 5 years’ experience in a datacentre environment at a large organisation or educational institution.

    Minimum competencies required:

    • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills,
    • Ability to work across interdisciplinary teams,
    • Ability to analyse and resolve problems swiftly using a range of diagnostic tools and techniques,
    • Ability to adapt to new technologies,
    • Ability to adapt to best practice frameworks to secure ensure Business Continuity over a range of scenarios,
    • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, policies and processes as related to the backup and BC environment.
