DUTIES

Management, control, and planning of all sanitation section activities by:

• Issuing work orders
• Organising subordinates to coordinate and control work, teams
• Monitoring productivity
• Planning and project management of the sanitation section
• Procurement and stock control of all materials and equipment used, including vehicles
• Guiding, advising, and assisting subordinates through communication and on-the-job training to ensure an effective workforce
• Handling all complaints and attending meetings related to sanitation section
• Responsible for all problems and deadlines relating to queries
• Working with contractors to ensure that work is done effectively and to high standards
• Responsible for all health and safety matters in the section and performing investigations
• General administrative duties pertaining to the position
• Responsible for discipline and management of grievances according to the prescribed disciplinary code and Council policies
• Budget management for effective operations and maintenance of sanitation section
• Performing any other related ad hoc tasks and duties as requested or required by management from time to time

• Performing fast and accurate typing duties by utilizing a word processor or personal computer to ensure effective operation of the administration within the sections
• Capturing of monthly EPWP leaves
• Performing leave administration duties
• Performing any other related ad hoc tasks and duties as requested or required by management (supervisor) from time to time

• Clean in and around the working area of responsibility with various manual labor equipment/tools to ensure a clean environment
• Do any labor-related work when requested by either the supervisor or the superintendent of the section
• Execution of all legal instructions from the supervisor to ensure productivity and smooth running of the section

DUTIES

Installs and maintains all water and sewer pumps, panels, and motors within the jurisdiction area of the council supplied localities by:

• Checking, fault finding, root cause analysis, and preventative maintenance of equipment
• Cleaning, repairing parts of panels, pumps, and motors as well as the structure of pump stations and related work areas to ensure good maintenance and operation of the abovementioned structures
• Responsible for the general maintenance on municipal pumps and water services infrastructure to ensure safe and precise supply of water services to consumers/ratepayers/general public

Supervision and control over the assisting team’s daily productivity of the section related matters by:

• Delegation of work and assistance during maintenance of pumps and panels to ensure constant availability of water-related services to consumers/ratepayers/general public
• Maintaining discipline within assisting teams
• Managing and measuring daily activities and performance of assisting teams to ensure maximum productivity and high-quality standard of work (ensuring the minimization of downtime and optimal functioning of the section)

Responsible for safety of co-workers, vehicles, and equipment by:

• Immediately reporting any losses or injuries to the superintendent for safety efficiency precautions as stipulated by the safety acts
• Adhering to health and safety environment, quality, and housekeeping standards
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and procedures
