    Actuarial Analyst - CEO's Office

    Key Purpose

    • The Actuarial Analyst is a high‑impact role within the office of the CEO reporting to the Executive Associate of Discovery Insure, working at the centre of executive decision‑making. The role supports the CEO, Executive Associate and Senior leaders to deliver rigorous analysis, structured problem‑solving, and execution  across priority strategic initiatives. The Actuarial Analyst combines strong analytical capability with operational support and sound business judgement to inform decision making, shape business performance and drive strategic initiatives.

    Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to:

    Strategic Advisory & Executive Support

    • Generate data‑driven insights and scenario analyses as input into strategic recommendations for Exco discussions.
    • Prepare executive briefs, board papers, presentations, and analytical reports.
    • Coordinate strategic initiatives across actuarial, underwriting, finance, risk, and operations teams.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    Discovery Insure’s Actuarial Analysts must be exceptional. They must demonstrate:

    • Strong actuarial modelling and analytical capabilities.
    • Proficiency in actuarial tools and analytics software (e.g., SAS, SQL, R, Python, Emblem, Radar, Power BI).
    • Excellent data interpretation and financial analysis skills.
    • Understanding of underwriting principles, claims behaviour, and insurance product structures.
    • Experience in pricing, reserving, capital modelling, or risk management - Advantageous.
    • Exposure to regulatory frameworks (SAM, IFRS 17) - Advantageous.
    • Experience working directly with senior leadership - Advantageous.

    Education and Experience

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or related quantitative field.
    • Good exam progress or a nearly qualified Actuary (e.g., ASSA, IFoA). 

    Minimum Experience:             

    • Consulting experience with a top tier consulting firm such as McKinsey, Bain, BCG etc. preferable.
    • Minimum 4 years strong analytical or business focus, and a proven record of academic excellence. Extensive business and/or technical experience with a proven track record of innovation, entrepreneurship, delivery and performance across multidisciplinary areas and projects.

    Actuarial Manager

    Key Purpose

    • To develop unique, data-driven solutions to problems faced within the operational processes for Insure. This includes optimizing and generating efficiencies in procurement, claims, sales and servicing processes using statistical, actuarial and data science techniques.     Key Purpose

    Data Analyst

    Key Purpose

    • The data analyst is responsible for transforming raw data into actionable insights to support informed decision-making within an organization.     Key Purpose

    Training Manager (Senior)

    Key Purpose

    • To lead the Discovery Institute of Training (DIT) Sales and Distribution learning portfolio by ensuring that facilitated learning events, Discovery product learning, financial planning learning and sales capability projects are planned, resourced, delivered and measured to a consistently high standard. The role is accountable for enabling advisers, sales teams, distribution channels and related business stakeholders to build the product, financial planning, compliance, sales and customer engagement capabilities required to deliver quality outcomes for Discovery clients and the business.

    • Lead the end-to-end Sales and Distribution learning portfolio across Discovery products, financial planning, sales process capability and distribution-related learning priorities.

    Key Purpose:

    The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to the following job functions:

    Assessing the case in relation to the following:

    • Prepare/review risks and controls matrix (RACM) and address/raise review notes were applicable.
    • Prepare/review test procedures and address/raise review notes where applicable.
    • Obtain approval from Audit management with regards to any changes to RACM, audit test procedures / sample sizes.
    • Perform testing and document working papers on Audit Software where applicable.
    • Review working papers on Audit Software (performed by IT Auditors) and raise review notes where applicable.
    • Prepare/review the Audit Finalisation Checklist at the end of an audit.
    • Close day to day supervision of the IT Auditors and process of work.
    • Provide regular progress updates (at least weekly) on audit assignments.
    • Keep track of the budget and timesheets on a weekly basis and submit to Audit Management.
    • Escalate in timely manner to Audit Management if deadlines are not going to be achieved.
    • Escalate cases where feedback is not received.
    • Advise Audit Management immediately about any problems experienced on completing audit.
    • Monitoring the quality of work performed by the audit team and taking corrective action (where applicable).
    • Provide training and supervision to audit team to ensure that that the required audit objectives are met and adequate practical coverage is achieved.
    • Ultimately responsible for quality of audit files (MK or other).
    • Proactively take on additional tasks as requested by Audit Manager.
    • Provide meaningful input and monitor the effective and timely implementation of management actions to address any control weaknesses identified through risk profiling, risk events and control self- assessment.

    Follow-ups

    • Follow up on outstanding audit issues and management actions.
    • Preparation and submission of follow-up progress reports for risk and/or audit committees.

     Development

    • Self-development: studying, attending courses, external courses, e-Learnings.
    • Present training to the IT audit team.
    • Completion of mini appraisals
    • Schedule meetings with Audit Manager for the combined review of mini appraisals.

    General

    • Stay up to date with Internal Audit profession and industry developments.
    • Ongoing development and improvement of audit methodology.
    • Travel if required.

    Education and Experience

    • B Degree or equivalent (and relevant) qualification (with Computer Science / Computer Auditing/ Information Systems / Auditing as majors)
    • CIA / CISA / CISM / CRISC / CGIT (one or more of the afore mentioned is required)
    • 2+ years audit experience
    • IT General Control Reviews.
    • Application control reviews.

     The following would be deemed as an advantage (and would be required for career progression):

    • Studying towards or in possession of relevant Bachelors or Honours Degree
    • Financial Services experience

     Competency

    • Analytical Thinking Ability: ability to split a task or problem into its component parts and use these in a logical and systematic manner to reveal all the implications of the consequences of situations
    • Communication Skills: able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
    • Relationships: building relationships with auditees, business and external auditors.
    • Reporting Skills: ability to consolidate information and compile reports reflecting the necessary relevant information
