    Senior Systems Administrator

    Description

    MFS Africa is the leading digital payments hub in Africa, enabling low-cost payments across the continent. The company works in close partnership with mobile network operators and financial institutions to bring simple and relevant payment services to unbanked people. MFS Africa connects over 320 million mobile money users across sub-Saharan Africa through its platform – the MFS Hub. As a B2B company, we enable cross-border payment for mobile money operators, banks, money transfer operators, large corporate and a growing number of SMEs. Our recent partnership with Visa will soon allow us to connect the MFS Hub to Visa.net, effectively connecting African consumers and businesses to the global digital economy.     The Role

    We are seeking an energetic and motivated Senior Systems Administrator to work as a member of the technical team, building the next generation of MFS Africa’s products and services. The position will report to the Tech Director (Infrastructure and Cyber security) and should be based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

    The duties and responsibilities of the role will be as follows:

    • Install and configure Linux operating systems
    • Manage and monitor network servers
    • Deploy and configure MySQL databases
    • Set up email accounts and workstations
    • Monitor performance and maintain application systems according to requirements
    • Troubleshoot issues and outages by mmanaging the Google Cloud infrastructure
    • Managing and troubleshooting the VPN connections

    Requirements

    Skills and competencies

    • Advanced knowledge and experience working with MySQL, and proficiency with Tomcat web server
    • Proficiency in Google cloud and AWS architecture and its VPN configurations
    • Bonus: e-commerce, online payments or banking/card payments experience
    • Advanced knowledge in mail, apache, selinux configurations on linux boxes
    • Linux server installation and hardening
    • Advanced knowledge in TCP/IP networking
    • Advance knowledge in Linux networking and iptables
    • Basic Cisco server configuration and troubleshooting

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Higher Diploma or BSc Computer Science or a related technical field
    • Fluency in English
    • Additional languages would be plus i.e. French

    Technical Project Manager

    The Role

    Network Operations, Project Management Office (PMO) is a dynamic, responsive and innovative team responsible for the well-being of the MFS Africa network of connected partners (mobile network operators, banks, money transfer organizations, merchants etc.).

    As a Technical Project Manager of the team, the Technical Project Manager will be key in the technical ability of the team to manage, optimize and continue to expand the fast-growing MFS Africa ecosystem and supporting the organization through several use-cases that MFS Africa offers to its partners.

    The role requires a project manager that has a system engineering background who is able to think laterally and use all of their technical ability to tackle and resolve unique problems in a clear, analytical approach that leverages all of their previous technical experiences.

     

    In this respect, MFS Africa seeks a self-starter, motivated and energetic Technical Project Manager for this role. You will be working with the Senior Manager: Network PMO and be part of Network Operations.

    The candidate may be based either in Ghana, South Africa or Kenya. Applicants should only apply for the position advertised in the country of residence, or where they have the right to work.

    The duties and responsibilities of the role will be as follows:

    • Participate in and own projects key to the execution of MFS Africa network expansion strategy and plans

    • Execute technical projects with future-partners integrating into the MFS Africa network

    • Manage and coordinate project and business meetings with partners

    • Guide and mentor colleagues around technical aspects and for the purpose of knowledge management

    • Updates project progress and manage project administrative tasks

    • Participate in technical forums around the use of the MFS Africa API, its evolution, and its new feature beta participations

    • Critically analyze ecosystem behavior to pinpoint areas of optimization /improvement and lead implementation of such analysis with quantifiable results

    • Work with MFS Africa partners on ensuring the latest MFS Africa API , API-features (integrations evolution) and best-API practices are implemented by partners throughout the ecosystem

    • Provide technical leadership to the network management team

    • Participate and manage technical optimization projects around the use of the MFS Africa API with connected partners

    Requirements

    Skills and Competencies

    • The ability to manage and oversee multiple projects

    • High competency in systems engineering approach & analytical thinking

    • Ability to learn complex products/solutions in a high-pace environment

    • Ability to multitask in an environment with shifting priorities

    • Ability to work autonomously and independently in a highly demanding environment and willing to take accountability for work produced

    • Comfortable learning new technologies and systems

    • Highly organized, solutions-oriented with solid problem-solving ability

    Qualifications and Experience

    • CAPM, PMP, Agile certified, Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Computer Engineering

    • Have 2 – 4 years of relevant experience

    • Previous experience in any project technical management role and capacity

    • Mastery of any technical system (open or proprietary)

    Advantages

    • Previous experience around API work (reading and interpretation of API specifications), Sync and/or Async

    • Previous experience in a technical industry (mobile/ICT)

    • Basic working knowledge around networking (VPN, SSL, MPLS etc.)
