    Plant Manager

    Purpose:

    • To lead, plan, control and coordinate all manufacturing functions to achieve quality, cost, delivery, safety and moral objectives, while ensuring production processes and driving continues improvement activities within the South African Bank Note Company (SABN).

    Main Responsibilities (not limited to):

    • Translate the strategy into an operational plan; develop departmental policies and procedure to ensure production output is aligned with the company strategy.
    • Ensure effective process flow, proper control of all production activities and resource planning in order to achieve the business plan.
    • Manage the production team to produce quality product in compliance with quality standards and policies
    • Collaborate with the PEM Department to set priorities for servicing and maintenance of production equipment, ensure staff members are trained to operate machines safely and effectively.
    • Ensure adherence to processes and systems for the safeguarding of security material and product.
    • Ensure optimal cost control within the department through increased operational efficiency, including overtime and wastage.
    • Source and analyse data and produce production progress reports to assist management with decision making, resolve problems and offer systemic or situational solutions to problems.
    • Work with supporting departments to identify and resolve issues related to printing and processing of quality banknotes.
    • Ensure continuous improvement and optimisation of processes and procedures by identifying problems through root cause analysis and providing solutions.
    • Champion Operational Excellence by implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to drive efficiency and eliminate waste.
    • Manage team performance, set objectives and goals and ensure high performance standards are achieved according to performance agreement.
    • Ensure development gaps are identified, and individual development plan (IDP) are developed for staff member to close identified gaps
    • Ensure the departmental training needs are submitted to the HR Department and actioned through relevant learning and development interventions.
    • Manage team in line with HR policies, manage team performance, develop team for succession planning.
    • Ensure adherence to all safety, health, environment regulations & standards and conduct incident  investigations.
    • Manage compliance to all legislations, municipal by-laws and regulations relevant to the function.
    • Ensure adherence to the risk management plan, identifying potential threats or risks and proactively implement corrective action as necessary.
    • Compliance to ISO system and investigate all incidents and log non-conformances on Action-Hub, develop and implement corrective actions.

    The Preferred Candidate is likely to have:

    • BSc or B-tech in Engineering discipline (Essential)
    • Production Management qualification (Desirable)
    • 5 - 8 years’ experience within the printing industry or in a production role in a manufacturing environment coupled with 2-3 years’ experience in a management position, preferably in a unionised environment.
    • Specific exposure to security product control working within a National Key Point environment (Desirable)

    Officer: Sustainability

    Purpose:

    • The Sustainability Officer is responsible to assist in maintaining a comprehensive sustainability programme to reduce SABN’s Carbon Footprint; the implementation of the sustainability strategy, data analytics, reporting and the communication of sustainability trends within the SABN in order to drive continuous improvement.

    Main Responsibilities (not limited to):

    • Minimise the SABN's environmental impact by supporting in initiatives to reduce energy and water consumption, manage waste, and promote the use of renewable resources.
    • Analyse data and prepare sustainability reports, detailing the SABN's performance in areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and waste management.
    • Collect and report data/performance metrics on sustainability initiatives and projects.
    • Stay abreast of, research, monitor and report on emerging trends, programmes and issues to make recommendations to the SABN.
    • Implement, facilitate and maintain the SABN internal sustainability training programme.
    • Collaborate with and build professional relationships with external stakeholders and partners.
    • Identify, promote and pursue sustainable organisational practices and opportunities to improve sustainability across the SABN.
    • Provide support to the sustainability committee.
    • Coordinate sustainability drives/initiatives within the portfolio including budget and resource allocation.
    • Implement the SABN sustainability policies and procedures.
    • Provide input into SABN-wide sustainability communications and communications channels/platforms.

    The Preferred Candidate is likely to have:

    • Diploma or Degree in technical or business discipline; sustainability, environmental science or related field.
    • ESG Certification will be an added advantage
    • Minimum 1 year demonstrated sustainability, environmental management experience/related to sustainability
    • Experience working with environmental management systems or ISO based management systems.
    • Work experience in a manufacturing environment is preferable

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Knowledge of sustainability dimensions (e.g. environment, trends, best practices, issues etc.) and technology.
    • Understanding of monitoring, measurement and reporting of sustainability targets.
    • Understanding of Project Management.
    • Well-developed knowledge of ISO14001.
    • Well-developed knowledge of local and international Sustainability/ Climate Legislation.
    • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
    • Presentation and facilitation skills.

    Manager Sustainability

    Purpose:

    • To lead the development and execution of strategies for the Sustainability Framework and Roadmap i.e. ESG Framework; the reduction of the SABN’s Carbon Footprint; the oversight of the Sustainability Projects; and Environmental and Climate-related Compliance and Regulations.

    Main Responsibilities (not limited to):

    • Manage and provide leadership to the environmental sustainability team.
    • Create and implement sustainability strategies tailored to the SABN's goals, by identifying areas for improvement, setting measurable targets, and developing plans to enhance environmental sustainability.
    • Minimise the SABN's environmental impact, by overseeing initiatives to reduce energy and water consumption, manage waste, and promote the use of renewable resources by implementing energy-efficien technologies, waste reduction programs, and eco-friendly practices.
    • Ensure the SABN complies with environmental regulations and standards.
    • Prepare sustainability reports, detailing the SABN's performance in areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and waste management.
    • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, customers and suppliers, in order to develop campaigns regarding sustainability initiatives and foster collaboration to enhance the SABN's environmental impact.
    • Stay informed about emerging sustainability and climate change trends and technologies and research innovative solutions, evaluate the feasibility of implementing new practices, and assess the potential impact on the SABN's sustainability goals.
    • Develop training programs for employees and stakeholders, to improve the knowledge regarding sustainable practices and encouraging behaviour change.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives with the use of data analytics, tracking progress of the sustainability strategy and its initiatives.
    • Identifying areas for improvement, while leading and sustaining the SABN's sustainability strategy and initiatives.

    The Preferred Candidate is likely to have:

    • BSc Degree in Environmental Management or Environmental Science or equivalent
    • ESG Certification will be an added advantage
    • 5 years working experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment in an Environmental Management Role
    • Experience in carbon accounting
    • Previous management/supervisory experience

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Well-developed knowledge of Carbon Footprint Analysis for assessment
    • Basic knowledge of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), IFRS, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Paris Agreement
    • Technical expertise in understanding international best practices in terms of ESG Standards
    • Understanding of Data Analysis techniques and methodologies
    • Broad knowledge of Project Management principles and application
    • Well-developed knowledge of ISO14001
    • Mathematical and statistical skills
    • Verbal, written and presentation communication skills
    • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to manage stakeholders
    • Ability to write suitability reports
    • Ability to lead, motivate and manage the performance of a team
