    Lecturer in Mathematics - (A901)

    Job Primary Purpose

    • The primary role of this position is to provide teaching, research, and leadership in Mathematics with a strong knowledge of Applied Mathematics.

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Provision of theoretically informed and pedagogically sound teaching of Mathematics. 
    • Research and the production of accredited research outputs. Postgraduate supervision leading to the graduation of Masters’ students in the minimum time. Well-developed research skills. Some research skills. Some evidence of sourcing of external funding or grants for research will be an added advantage.
    • Engagement, through which knowledge and skills are used to benefit the discipline/ profession and the community.
    • The provision of some leadership at the discipline and School levels.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Master’s qualification and preferably a Doctoral qualification or progress towards a Doctoral qualification in Mathematics.
    • Some experience with the facilitation of learning, possibly as a tutor, and preferably some teaching experience. 
    • Some evidence of research activity, such as published papers or conference attendance, which may be associated with postgraduate research.

    Key Competencies

    • A sound knowledge of the theory and application of the discipline.
    • Good interpersonal skills, including communication skills.
    • An appreciation of modern theories of teaching and learning in Higher Education and some skills as a tutor.
    • Some research skills.
    • An understanding of the role of Universities in Engagement.

    nGAP Lecturer: Life Skills Education - (NG50)

    Job Primary Purpose

    • The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership in the Creative and Performing Arts extracurricular activities for students, teaching and learning in all the facets of the Life Skills subjects in the Foundation Phase, research, and engagement.

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Leadership Leadership in Creative and Performing Arts extra-curricular activities for students.
    • Teaching & Learning Provision of theoretically informed and pedagogically sound teaching of relevant Education modules.
    • Research Research and the production of accredited research outputs are linked to the completion of a PhD or Doctorate with a Foundation Phase Life Skills focus.
    • Engagement Engagement, through which knowledge and skills are used to benefit the discipline/profession and the community.

    PROGRAMME INFORMATION

    • The University of Mpumalanga invites applications for the nGAP Lecturer in Life Skills Education
    • This is a permanent post at the Lecturer level. Full details of the nGAP programme can be found at http://www.ssauf.dhet.gov.za/ngap.html, and applicants are encouraged to carefully read the information on the website before applying.
    • The nGAP is positioned by the Department of Higher Education and Training as a prestigious programme in the sector, and candidates who demonstrate a passion for following a career as an academic and who have demonstrated high academic ability will be recruited.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Applicants must have at least a Master's qualification with a Foundation Phase Life Skills focus.
    • Be a South African Citizen.
    • Prospective candidates should have achieved an average of 70% or above in the preceding degree, which should be a minimum of a Master's degree.
    • Be 40 years or younger.
    • Be prepared and able to undertake and complete postgraduate studies at the doctoral level.

    Key Competencies

    Disciplinary knowledge

    The applicant should be proficient in teaching all the facets of the Life Skills subject in the Foundation Phase. These include:

    Music for the Foundation Phase

    • Ability to play at least three instruments (including voice) and basic theoretical knowledge of music.

    Drama for the Foundation Phase

    • Ability to teach drama at Foundation Phase level, including genres such as role play, basic acting, mime, recitation, choral work, etc. Theoretical knowledge, including the elements of drama.

    Creative moment (Dance) for the Foundation Phase

    • Know the elements of choreography and dance, particularly improvisation and creative movement.

    Physical Education for the Foundation Phase

    • Knowledge of fundamental skills and the teaching thereof, including gross motor (locomotor and non-locomotor), stability, and manipulation. Skills in basic sports codes such as athletics, cricket, soccer, netball, tennis, etc.

    Social sciences

    • Ability to teach fundamental skills in History and Geography.

    Natural Sciences

    • Knowledge of fundamental skills in teaching natural and physical sciences.

    Technology

    • Knowledge of technological methods, including identifying needs, planning, designing, making, and evaluating products.

    Leadership

    • Good interpersonal skills, including communication skills.

    Teaching & Learning

    • An appreciation of modern theories of teaching and learning in higher education.

    Research

    • Some research skills.

    Engagement

    • An understanding of the role of the University in Engagement.

    Senior Manager: Research Management - (B806.1)

    Job Primary Purpose

    • The purpose of the position is to offer strategic coordination of research grants, professional and supportive administration of grants, and advancement and implementation of a grant management approach in support of research.
    • Maintain reliable and useful knowledge management to ensure efficient information flow and accurate reporting on research grants.
    • Administer all internal and external research grants, develop user-friendly business processes, while ensuring that policies and practices are implemented in line with best practice and University policies and procedures.

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Capacity building.
    • Perform other duties as delegated by the line manager.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A relevant M+4 (Honours).

    • National Research Foundation grant management system.
    • Advanced understanding of the national and international research finding landscape.

    Admin Assistant: Research Management - (B579.1)

    Job Primary Purpose

    • The main purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Research Management Office, including administrative activities of the division to the Director, and to be responsible for the organisation and coordination of office operations, while ensuring that policies and procedures are implemented in line with best practice and University policies and procedures.

    Key Performance Areas:

    • General administration support and office management.
    • Records keeping.
    • Review of applications.
    • Client liaison with staff, students and external stakeholders.
    • Completion of paperwork, filing, processing documents and recording information.
    • Perform other duties as delegated by the line manager.

    Minimum Requirements:
