    Senior Lecturer / Lecturer (Plant Pathology) (One Position) - Department of Plant and Soil Sciences - Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Undergraduate level teaching in plant pathology and basic plant biology;
    • Honours level teaching in plant pathology;
    • Supervision of postgraduate students in plant pathology;
    • Acquiring research funding;
    • Conducting and leading research in applied plant pathology;
    • Initiating community engagement projects, and engaging in professional development activities.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Senior Lecturer:

    • PhD degree in plant pathology or a related agricultural field, with prior undergraduate and MSc-level training in plant pathology or related fields;
    • In-depth understanding of basic principles of plant pathology and experience in field-based applied plant pathology;
    • A minimum of two (2) years teaching experience at undergraduate level;
    • Evidence of postgraduate supervision as main supervisor of at least one (1) graduated Masters student in a relevant field;
    • A track record of research in the relevant field published in Web of Science-indexed journals;
    • Evidence of successful research grant funding applications;
    • Intent to obtain a National Research Foundation Rating (NRF) rating in the next three years;

    Lecturer:

    • PhD degree in plant pathology or a related agricultural field, with prior undergraduate and MSc-level training in plant pathology or related fields;

    Postgraduate Student Advisor, Office of the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • The incumbent will be responsible for providing specialist academic, professional and psychosocial support to promote the academic success, wellbeing and professional development of postgraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, MMedVet residents, and veterinary interns within the Faculty of Veterinary Science. The successful candidate will provide specialist individual coaching and developmental support while designing, implementing and evaluating innovative programmes and strategic student success initiatives that promote academic achievement, resilience, wellbeing and professional development.

    The responsibilities of the incumbent will include:

    • Providing confidential individual coaching, counselling and developmental support to postgraduate students (including postdoctoral fellows and MMedVet residents) and veterinary interns experiencing academic, personal or professional challenges; 
    • Identifying students at risk and implementing appropriate evidence-based intervention strategies to improve academic success, wellbeing and timely completion; 
    • Developing, implementing and evaluating evidence-informed programmes, workshops and short courses that promote academic success, resilience, leadership, professional identity formation and successful transition into professional practice; 
    • Coordinating and presenting the annual induction programme to all newly registered postgraduate students, as well as the compulsory transition programmes that prepare veterinary interns and MMedVet residents for the professional and clinical working environment; 
    • Developing and providing workshops on topics such as stress management, resilience, communication, conflict management, leadership, wellbeing and professional development;
    • Working closely with the Faculty Postgraduate Student Association and supporting the planning, coordination and implementation of student wellbeing and wellness initiatives;

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A Master's degree in Educational Psychology; 
    • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Educational Psychologist; 
    • At least three years' relevant professional experience in student development, academic support, coaching or counselling within a higher education or comparable professional training environment;  
    • Demonstrated experience in designing, facilitating and evaluating developmental programmes, workshops or structured training interventions; and
    • Demonstrated experience in providing individual coaching and facilitating group-based interventions for students or young professionals within a higher education or comparable professional training environment, particularly in high-performance academic, research or clinical settings.

    Experimental Farm Manager

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • The Experimental Farm Manager will provide strategic, scientific, operational and financial leadership for the university experimental farm.   The incumbent will oversee integrated crop and livestock systems, research, training, and infrastructure to ensure the farm functions as a sustainable agricultural innovation platform that supports teaching, research, commercialisation, and industry engagement.  Support the mission of IA@UP to promote long-term, world-class Industry-Government-University research and training partnerships that support joint innovation for the competitive and effective functioning of South African and African industries and policy.

    Livestock and Animal Production Management:

    • Overseeing intensive and extensive livestock production systems, including dairy, sheep, beef and other ruminant enterprises;
    • Developing scientifically balanced feeding systems and fodder flow programmes. 
    • Monitoring herd fertility, breeding performance, health records and production efficiency;

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • A Bachelor of Science in Agriculture/ Bachelor of Agriculture degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Management, Agronomy or related field; 
    • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in the following domains:

    Enterprises and Fundraising Specialist - Department of TuksSport

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Strategic fundraising & third-stream income: Develop and implement strategic fundraising and third-stream income strategies aligned with TuksSport and DIA guidelines, including researching and securing funding from CSI portfolios, foundations, government grants and social impact/development funds.
    • Commercialisation & sponsorship contracting: Identify and package commercial assets across TuksSport clubs, facilities, and events (including stadium naming rights, kit, branding, and digital assets), and lead negotiations and full contracting lifecycle for sponsorship rights in collaboration with the UP Department of Institutional Planning and UP Legal Department.

    • Proposal development & grant management: Develop outcome-based funding proposals and lead the end-to-end application process for grants.
    • ROI tracking, stewardship & donor recognition: Develop and implement an ROI tracking system to provide partners with sponsorship reports, impact reports, and manage the end-to-end stewardship process, including donor recognition and impact reports.
    • Alumni engagement & CRM management: Develop and manage a TuksSport alumni engagement strategy to convert former student-athletes into active donors and mentors, and utilise and maintain the CRM database to track the donor journey and manage the "moves management" process for prospects.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The incumbent will be expected to do the following:

    • Coordinating and managing all research projects within the department, and evaluating all documents to be submitted;

    Senior Manager: Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and Shared Services, Department of Human Resources

    • The Senior Manager: HRIS and Shared Services is responsible for supporting a smooth and efficient implementation of HR management in four key areas: HR management information systems; HR process management; HR administration; and HR projects through maintaining and enhancing HR systems by analysing business requirements, designing, implementing and testing solutions. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    POSITION

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be expected to:

    • Engage in teaching, curriculum development, and co-ordinating programmes at postgraduate levels;

    • Evidence of postgraduate supervision experience. 

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Professional practice experience as a therapist or educator in the respective field;
