    Resource Development Lead

    SANCCOB is a leading marine conservation non-profit organisation, and seeks to employ a Resource Development Lead to join its team at SANCCOB Cape Town, located in Table View. The Resource Development Lead reports directly to the Head of Operations at SANCCOB.

    The key performance areas for this position are to:

    • Provide specialist input regarding fundraising and marketing.
    • Direct the development of a fundraising and marketing strategy, ensuring it is effectively executed and managed.
    • Lead and manage the fundraising and marketing team to ensure optimal performance of the team, including meeting income and other targets, adapting to ensure these are met, and that donor stewardship strategies are implemented and managed.
    • Research and recommend new fundraising techniques in response to changes in the general fundraising environment.
    • Ensure that the fundraising and marketing team are accountable for income targets and to take overall responsibility for the performance of the team.
    • Analyse fundraising and marketing programmes and trends to ensure the growth of the organization, and lead and facilitate proposal development.
    • Be responsible for strategic collaborations, consortium fundraising, trust and foundation fundraising, philanthropic entity fundraising and overseas aid fundraising, ensuring this comes to fruition.
    • Lead and facilitate the production of professional, high-quality, and appropriate fundraising proposals and coordinate the submission of all funding proposal submissions for the organization, locally and globally.
    • Develop, and maintain relationships with current donors, to ensure continued support, and identify new fundraising and donor engagement opportunities, with a focus on sustainable funding (3-5 years).
    • Ensure the implementation of an effective marketing and media campaign to enhance the organisation’s brand value and optimize overall media performance (all channels), both locally and globally.
    • Identify and manage fundraising and marketing events.
    • Ensure that excellent donor records are maintained, and that the donor database (DEVMAN) is continuously updated and optimally utilised. This includes regular communications with donors (newsletters, mailshots, etc.).
    • In collaboration with the fundraising and marketing team, and the Head of Operations, compile annual income and expenditure budgets.
    • Any other tasks necessary for the conduct of the employer’s business, as the employer may from time to time direct.

    SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

    • Matric certificate.
    • Degree or equivalent in any of the following – Marketing, Development Finance, Fundraising.
    • At least 7 years’ experience in NGO/NPO fundraising and marketing, of which 3 years must be at management level.
    • Experience with overseas aid, consortium fundraising, and similar fundraising applications.
    • Ability to work with senior management.
    • Ability to provide strategic input and leadership and effectively manage a team. This includes being responsible for the overall performance of the team and holding the team accountable for income targets.
    • Ability to lead and implement business planning and proposal development.
    • Microsoft Office Suite and CANVA or any other funding proposal development software.
    • Advanced writing, reporting and presentation skills.
    • SDG, MEL, Log frames, and Theory of Change applied knowledge is necessary.
    • Understanding of donor database systems.
    • Driver’s License and own transport.

    Communications and Marketing Officer

    SANCCOB is a leading marine conservation non-profit organisation, and seeks to employ a Communications and Marketing Officer to join its team at SANCCOB Cape Town, located in Table View. The Communications and Marketing Officer reports directly to the Resource Development Lead of SANCCOB.

    The key performance areas for this position are to:

    • Provide specialist input regarding communications and marketing.
    • Lead the organisation’s entire communications and marketing function, including digital, social media, print, television, and radio.
    • Develop a marketing strategy and implementation plan, including risk management strategies, and execute accordingly.
    • Ensure substantial growth across all media platforms, including elevating the organisation’s brand/media value.
    • Lead the information gathering process and distribute press-releases, newsletters, and any other media related materials, and secure media coverage to promote the work of the organisation.
    • Oversee all public relations and media enquiries from journalists and develop and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders/journalists/media personalities.
    • Be the primary point of contact for, and manage and implement, all PR related matters. This includes being the stakeholder liaison across all media platforms and responding to the public via social media.
    • Oversee all aspects of filming pertaining to the organisation.
    • Proactively produce high-quality content for all media platforms, including infographics, to communicate professionally and effectively, within the organisation’s brand guidelines.
    • Conduct market research and social media/website data analysis to identify growth opportunities and develop targeted campaigns to grow the organisation’s brand value and social media following.
    • Oversee the planning, coordination and execution of online webinars, and on-site conferences, and networking sessions.
    • Collaborate with the various departments within the organisation to ensure successful events and enhanced brand exposure.
    • Lead partnership opportunities with potential ambassadors/influencers and collaborate on initiatives that align with the organisation’s goals. Continuous management of ambassador/influencer relationships and agreements.
    • Consult with stakeholders locally and globally and implement strategies to ensure that the organisation’s brand is optimally represented.
    • Manage and work with the website sub-contractor to ensure that the website is continuously updated and analyse data to ensure that the website SEO ranking is optimised.
    • Any other tasks necessary for the conduct of the employer’s business, as the employer may from time to time direct.

    Requirements:

    • Degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or a related field.
    • Minimum five years’ experience as a Communications and Marketing Officer or Public Relations Officer, or similar role.
    • Proven capabilities and experience in communications and marketing, including digital, social media, print, television, and radio.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
    • Strong networking and relationship-building abilities, including media pitching skills and client service skills.
    • Proactive with an ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
    • Exceptional administrative, organisational and project management skills.
    • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    Education Coordinator

    SANCCOB, a leading marine conservation non-profit organisation, seeks to employ an Education Coordinator to join their dynamic team in the Eastern Cape. The Education Coordinator will assist with a variety of front of house activities and will report to the Education Supervisor of SANCCOB Gqeberha. Applications from South African residents or applicants with valid work permits are invited.

    Key responsibilities

    Education:

    • Review and update content of education lessons to ensure the information is up to date and relevant to the target audience.
    • Participate in educational programs for both children and adults.
    • Develop and conduct interactive public tours of the SANCCOB facility.
    • Train education staff, interns and volunteers to assist with tours and education lessons.
    • Develop new educational programs, learning material and activities that are in line with SANCCOB’s mission.
    • Assist the Education Supervisor, Resource Development Department and Gqeberha Centre Manager to source donors and write applications for funding requests.
    • Assist with establishing relationships with other environmental education institutions.
    • Coordinate all logistical arrangements for educational programs.

    Volunteer Programme:

    • Assist the Education Supervisor in overseeing all aspects of the SANCCOB volunteer and internship programme at the Gqeberha centre, including the following:
    • Assist in sourcing volunteers and interns to meet capacity needs and to ensure they are utilised effectively to support SANCCOB’s capacity requirements.
    • Assist with coordinating orientation sessions and conducting ongoing training sessions to ensure the volunteers and interns have the knowledge and skills to contribute in a meaningful way during their time at SANCCOB.
    • Ensure volunteers and interns are appreciated for their time.
    • Ensure volunteers and interns are following the procedures as stipulated in the SANCCOB SOP’s.
    • Address any concerns or issues raised by the volunteers and interns.

    Administrative functions:

    • Assist with duties in the merchandise shop. This will include, but is not limited to, working at the reception desk, ringing up tours and shop sales using the point of sales system and helping with shop stock control.
    • Assist with compiling monthly reports and statistics.

    Events:

    • Work with SANCCOB staff and external partners to assist with event planning and implementation.

    Requirements:

    • Matric certification (Relevant tertiary qualification preferable).
    • Strong people skills with the ability to train people.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Planning and organisational capabilities. 
    • Passion for wildlife conservation and preservation.
    • Ability to work in a team.
    • Ability to problem-solve.
    • Able and willing to work on weekends and public holidays.
    • Minimum 2 years’ working experience.
    • Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
    • Valid Code 8 driver’s license and own transport.
