    Readvertising: Prof/Ass Prof in African Languages & Interim Research Chair in Multilingualism

    Job Description

    Readvertising: Professor/Associate Professor in African Languages in the School of Languages and Literatures AND Interim Research Chair in Intellectualisation of African Languages, Multilingualism and Education (18 Months)

    • The School of Languages and Literatures is looking for suitably qualified candidates to join their team as a Professor/Associate Professor of African Languages (Permanent), as well as serve as the Interim Research Chair in Intellectualisation of African Languages, Multilingualism and Education, for a period of 18 months.
    • All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and engaging in community engagement, recognising differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, faculty, and/or university levels.
    • Furthermore, the successful incumbent would be required to come up with their own work plan for the remainder of the Chair period (July 2026 - December 2027) to submit to the NRF for approval. 

    The Requirements

    Associate Professor

    • A PhD in Sociolinguistics or Applied Language Studies.
    • Considerable teaching experience across a range of courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Experience teaching and research in the following disciplinary areas, such as IsiXhosa Language Teaching, Language planning, Terminology, Lexicography, with a focus on African Languages.
    • Relevant supervision of Master’s degrees to completion is required. Supervising PhD degrees to completion is an advantage.
    • Approaches to teaching & learning and research that emphasise engagement with communities will be an advantage.
    • National and emerging international profile in the discipline and substantial publication record in peer-reviewed publications.
    • Proven track record and an active interest in administration, management and leadership.

    Professor

    • A PhD in Sociolinguistics or Applied Language Studies.
    • Extensive teaching experience across a range of courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels is required.
    • Experience teaching and research in the following disciplinary areas, such as IsiXhosa Language Teaching, Language planning, Terminology, Lexicography, with a focus on African Languages.
    • Relevant supervision of Master’s and PhD degrees to completion is required.
    • Approaches to teaching & learning and research that emphasise engagement with communities will be an advantage.
    • International profile in the discipline (Very good to outstanding research track record).
    • Proven track record and an active interest in administration, management and leadership.

    Main Objectives

    • The purpose of this job is to respond to users’ technical support needs.
    • The incumbent will be required to provide professional, efficient, and accurate responses to enable the staff of the university with their IT needs.

    The Requirements

    Grade 12 with approximately 2 years’ relevant experience, where such experience includes: -

    • Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting and computer problem solving skills.
    • Well rounded expertise and practical knowledge of operating systems, networking and office software.
    • Worked in a team environment
    • Six months experience in an IT desktop support environment and Google Workspace

    Set Builder and Workshop Supervisor In The Drama Department

    Main Objectives

    • To co-ordinate and supervise the activities in the workshop so as to build and construct sets for all Departmental productions, as well as acting as the Resident Safety Officer for the Rhodes Theatre Complex.

    The Requirements

    Qualified Artisan (i.e. must have completed an apprenticeship or learnership as a Fitter and Turner or Carpenter – NQF Level 4) plus approximately 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Previous technical experience (including experience in a scenic workshop working on the technical side)
    • Previous experience working with Word, Excel, Email and the Internet
    • Previous experience working with health and safety, including working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
    • Working knowledge of computer-aided drawing (CAD) will be an advantage
    • Previous experience supervising staff will be an advantage

    Readvertisement: Lecturer (nGAP) in Clinical Pharmacy (Grade L)

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research) and community engagement, and recognising differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. 
    • Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, faculty, and/or university levels and contribute to their profession.
    • In addition, a Professor and an Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, and community engagement, as well as to contribute towards the governance of the institution. This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the departmental, faculty, and institutional levels.

    The Requirements

    LECTURER

    • At least a BPharm and a postgraduate degree in Clinical Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacology or related discipline, with a minimum of a Master’s degree.
    • The successful applicant should be willing and driven to undertake research in Clinical Pharmacy and register for a PhD degree.
    • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a pharmacist.
    • Tutoring, facilitation or conference presentation experience required. No teaching experience required.
    • Ability to teach in the following disciplinary areas: Clinical Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, Clinical Pharmacy Practice and Experiential Training (Hospital/Primary Care Rotations/WBL), Pharmacotherapy and Clinical Research will be an advantage.
    • No research supervision required.
    • No emerging national profile in the discipline is required.
    • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).
