RESPONSIBILITIES:
KRA 1: Support the implementation of targeted ecosystem conservation and restoration initiatives to enhance biodiversity resilience.
- Assist with Integrated Work Plans and IAPO planning, implementation, tracking and reporting.
- Implement ecological matrix and priority projects for Stony Point Colony and the greater Kogelberg Complex.
- Implementation and monitoring of conservation and restoration initiatives to protect functioning seabird breeding populations at Stony Point.
- Participate in any disaster management responses at a local level including fires, flooding, oil spills, disease monitoring and surveillance.
KRA 2: Support landscape conservation and stewardship in ways that address biodiversity loss.
- Support the implementation of the African Penguin BMP and other species conservation plans and/or initiatives.
- Implement actions to improve the conservation status of priority species and ecosystems.
- Engage and maintain functional partnerships to address biodiversity loss.
- Implement the biodiversity legal mandate through compliance and enforcement actions.
- Participate and contribute to Environmental Awareness, Education and Capacity building interventions.
KRA 3: Promote the biodiversity economy and enhance biodiversity access and sustainable use.
- Support the implementation of job creation opportunities through the EPWP programme.
- Participate in innovative partnership opportunities linked to seabird management and marine and coastal management.
- Accommodate external and internal researchers, in the most applicable manner to achieve research objectives whilst respecting the integrity of SPNR.
- Ensure CapeNature tourism products are well managed and maintained / ensure infrastructure is fit for purpose.
- Maintain and improve Infrastructure, equipment, and asset management processes.
KRA 4: Advocate for behavioural change and promote voluntary compliance.
- Provide support to Stakeholder Engagements.
- Provide support in convening Protected Area Advisory Committee meetings and maintaining good relations with local community and stakeholders.
- Conduct compliance inspections to monitor access for Tourism and Non-Tourism User Groups (Contractors, Researchers, Project Partners).
- Implementation of the Integrated Compliance Plan on and Off Reserve and carry out law enforcement patrols.
- Act as an Ecological Control Officer for Film crews and production teams.
KRA 5: Assume accountability for ensuring performance, governance, and risk management.
- Supervise the EPWP team, monitors and volunteers.
- Conduct regular infrastructure inspections which feeds into maintenance plans for the Reserve and assist with maintenance and service of facilities.
- Implement all relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation, policies and standards and ensure adherence thereto.
- Assist with risk assessments and quality assurance audits, including Occupational Health and Safety.
- Facilitating knowledge exchanges and peer learning opportunities at the Stony Point Nature Reserve and greater Kogelberg Complex.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- National Diploma in Nature Conservation or Marine Biology or Marine Sciences.
- Seabird Handling Certification and experience.
- At least 2 years of job-related experience with an emphasis on seabird conservation.
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, QGIS)
- A valid EB driver’s license.
- Bilingualism in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
- Working knowledge of seabird conservation, data collection and interpretation, habitat restoration and disaster management.

- Biodiversity economy activities are implemented in identified nodes.

Advocate for behavioral change and promote voluntary compliance
- Local community involvement in Protected Area management is established.
- Stakeholder engagement is enhanced through targeted interventions.
- Compliance plans for all On Reserve components are in place.
- Biodiversity permits are issued within legislated time frames.
Assume overall accountability for ensuring performance, governance and risk management
- An enabling environment is created for formal partnerships to mitigate risks to biodiversity.
- Management structures are in place and infrastructure is fit for purpose.
- All relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation, policies and standards are in place and adhered to.
- Governance is enhanced by adherence to corporate policies and standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- National Diploma in Nature Conservation / equivalent qualification at NQF 6 in a Nature Conservation field
- Strong ability to lead with at least 5 years’ management experience in the Conservation Sector
- Appointed as Environmental Management Inspector. (EMI)
- Proven track record of managing a protected area and sound interpersonal, communication and people management skills
- Experience in Alien Vegetation Management
- Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills
- Exceptional ability to work effectively within teams (as a leader and as team member)
- Proven written and communication skills
- Exceptional financial management skills
- Thorough working knowledge of MS Office with QGIS (or equivalent) advantageous
- A valid EB (08) driver’s license, willingness to travel regularly and ability to drive on 4x4 terrain
- Physical fitness to perform duties in rugged mountainous terrain

RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Post-graduate Degree in Nature Conservation, Natural Sciences and/or Sustainable Development will be advantageous.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
KRA 1: Contribute to marine and coastal conservation action to enhance biodiversity resilience through targeted ecosystem conservation and restoration initiatives.
- This includes planning, implementation, and monitoring of conservation and restoration efforts to protect and conserve a functioning estuary and MPA and the associated species.
- Participate in any disaster management responses at a local level.

KRA 3: To assist in risk management, governance, compliance monitoring, and effective enforcement operations in the Landscape.
- Be aware of and participate in interventions that predict, minimize, and mitigate risks due to unnatural and natural disasters.
- Ensuring that enforcement operations are effective in achieving the objectives of the estuary and MPA management plan and associated legislation, policies, agreements.
- Participation in estuary and MPA based partnerships, especially with regards to law enforcement and compliance monitoring.
- Advocate for behavioral change and promote voluntary compliance.

KRA 4: Contribute to marine and coastal conservation in promoting the biodiversity economy and enhancing biodiversity access and sustainable use.
- This includes participating in local partnerships with a focus on conservation as well as any associated non-extractive socio-economic benefits and community empowerment opportunities.
- Identify and participate in projects that are based on sustainable non-extractive economic opportunities, aligned to the entity’s directive to enhance access and socio-economic opportunities.
- Support for the implementation of targeted biodiversity economic activities to promote job creation, work opportunities, and livelihood support.
- Participate in initiatives that promote access to the estuary for recreational, educational, and traditional purposes (ecotourism offering and access to communities).

KRA 5: Contribute and assist to advance knowledge exchanges, peer learning, capacity building, and mentorship.
- Participate in the Marine and Coasts Operations coaching, mentorship, and capacity building programmes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- National Diploma in Nature Conservation / equivalent qualification at NQF 6 in a Nature Conservation field
- Skippers License (Category “R”, “E” or higher).
- At least 2 years of job-related experience with an emphasis on estuary, coastal or marine enforcement and anti-poaching fields
- Working knowledge of enforcement operations, operational plans and vessel-based operations.
- A valid EB driver’s licen
- No criminal record.
- Bilingualism in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Possession of a valid Peace Officer’s certificate, EMI certification or a type of enforcement experience
- Evidence supporting skipper experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Performance Area 1:
Implement Eco-Matrix and Integrated Catchment Management
- Ecological (Biotic, abiotic, cultural-historical, weather, etc.) data collection and capturing and management according to standardized process and Eco Matrixes.
- Infrastructure surveys and record keeping (Buildings, high sites, etc...)
- Carry out quality control duties (AVM, ICM, WoF, etc.)
- Ecological and management monitoring and report compilation
- Assist with research projects.
- Assist with firefighting operations.

Key Performance Area 2:
Supervisory and Administrative Duties
- Support management in effective management of Protected Area

- Attend and contribute to management meetings (Report backs, etc...)
- Assist with LED initiatives on/off reserves.

- Act as Senior FR or NC when he/she is absent.
Key Performance Area 3:
Perform Legal Compliance Quality Assurance and OHS
- Assist with search and rescue operations.
- Carry out patrol duties, observations, and law enforcement (on and off reserves) including Roadblocks.
- Education/extension, warnings, and fines if appropriate
- Provide support to Conservation Services and the Biodiversity Crime unit.
- Assist with risk assessments and quality assurance audits, including OHS.

Key Performance Area 4:
Infrastructure and Equipment
- Assist with maintenance and service of facilities.
- Carry out minor repairs and maintenance.
- Maintain vehicles and equipment.

Key Performance Area 5:
Client Care
- Assist with Tourism activities.
- Provide visitors with information and interpretation.
- Apply basic First Aid.
- Assist with gate guard and front office duties, including issuing of permits and receipt of money.

Qualifications and Experience
- National Certificate: Conservation Resource Guardianship (NQF level 2) or equivalent qualification.
- At least two years job related experience.
- A valid code B driver’s license with 4x4 driving skills and experience.
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, QGIS).
- Knowledge and experience in ecological monitoring and law enforcement.
- Knowledge and experience in Fire Fighting.
- Crew Boss level or higher qualification.
- No criminal record.
- Project management.
- A valid Peace Officer certificate.
- Environmental Inspector Class 4 appointment.
