    Accountant - Johannesburg

    Role Summary

    The Accountant is responsible for assisting with the preparation of the monthly management reports, annual consolidated financial statements as well as general corporate accounting issues in order to ensure the integrity of the financial data.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    OPERATIONAL

    • Responsible for the full accounting function to trial balance which include, but is not limited to general ledger processing, and all balance sheet reconciliations. 
    • Complete the general ledger close off every month, once all journals are processed for the month
    • Responsible for maintaining the fixed asset register.
    • Load payments on the banking system.
    • Prepare and submit VAT201 returns.
    • Prepare monthly audit schedules for balance sheet and income statement.
    • Explain deviations (comparison of budget to actual results).
    • Liaise with operational departments with regards to any variances.
    • Preparation of year-end accounts and coordination with external auditors.
    • Ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, ad hoc & year-end reporting as required by management.
    • Preparation of year-end income taxation calculation.
    • Preparation of year-end financial statements.
    • Analyse business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
    • Advise management about issues such as resource utilization, tax strategies, and the assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
    • Compilation of all necessary annual BEE financial schedules.
    • Perform all such duties and exercise all such powers in relation to the business of the Company as may from time to time be vested in or assigned to you, despite the fact that such duties and powers may not normally performed by you.

    Bookkeeper

    The Bookkeeper is required to complete the full bookkeeping functions from source documentation to trial balance and record the day-to-day financial transactions of the business. They are responsible for ensuring all transactions are recorded in the correct ledger and computing, classifying and recording numerical data to keep financial records. In addition, the Bookkeeper is also responsible for debtors and creditors related transactions.     Debtors

    • Proper maintenance of debtor master file on the financial system.
    • Debtors’ recovery – following up on all overdue invoices, documenting correspondence and taking the appropriate action to ensure prompt recovery.
    • Analyse credit data and financial statements to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.
    • Assist with other administrative and operational tasks as and when required.

    Creditors

    • Capture all creditor invoices received.
    • Manage and follow up on creditor related transactions and documentation.
    • Ensure documents are correct for example delivery note, price right according to invoice, receive purchase order – when it gets delivered, delivery note – and invoice.

    ROLE SUMMARY

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Financial Management

    • Manage the annual departmental budget in collaboration with the CEO.
    • Responsible for the cost-effective allocation and use of company resources.
    • Implement, control, and manage departmental resources and procedures within approved budget guidelines.
