    Financial Systems Specialist

    Purpose of the Job

    • To provide functional and technical support for financial systems by empowering users, enhancing business processes, and maintaining the integrity of the ERP system. The incumbent will support system implementation, optimization, and compliance, ensuring that financial information is reliable and accessible across the institution.

    Minimum Requirements

    • NQF Level 7 qualification in Finance or Commerce with ERP system certification, OR
    • Postgraduate Certificate in Project Management, Database Design/Implementation, or ERP Administration, OR
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or IT with postgraduate certificates in Financial Management and Project Management
    • 5–8 years’ experience in a financial environment, including 3 years on an ERP Financial Module (FI)
    • Supervisory experience will be an advantage
    • Knowledge of the Higher Education sector and its financial systems will be an advantage

    Legal Requirement:

    • SAP Certification

    Key Competencies

    • Proven background in accounting and financial processes
    • Strong understanding of ERP systems, relational databases, and reporting tools
    • Advanced MS Excel skills, including VBA
    • Knowledge of ICT Governance, Project Management, and Change Control standards
    • Understanding of financial legislation, the Higher Education Act, and public funding principles
    • Familiarity with database design, data structures, and system integration
    • Ability to support and train users while driving process improvement

    Key Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the development and implementation of Financial Systems strategy and ERP solutions
    • Translate user requirements into system design and implementation plans
    • Support ERP configuration, testing, and user acceptance processes
    • Manage transactions and month-end closures within ERP systems
    • Provide system training, maintenance, and troubleshooting for users
    • Ensure compliance with ICT governance, project management, and change control procedures
    • Liaise with ICTS to resolve technical and data-related issues
    • Retrieve and manage historical data from legacy systems
    • Identify and mitigate risks related to financial system operations
    • Ensure compliance with statutory and reporting requirements
    • Support the month-end reconciliation process and ensure accurate reporting

    Treasury Accountant

    Purpose of the Job

    • To manage the institution’s treasury operations, including cash flow forecasting, foreign payments, bank liaison, and compliance with financial regulations, while supporting financial reporting and audit readiness.

    Minimum Requirements

    • B Degree in Finance, Commerce, or an equivalent qualification (NQF Level 7)
    • Ideal: Honours Degree (NQF Level 8)
    • Experience: 3–5 years’ experience in bank reconciliations, foreign payments, cash flow reporting, and audit preparation

    Ideal Registration

    • Registration with a recognized and reputable accounting body (e.g., SAIPA) will be an advantage.

    Key Competencies

    • Sound knowledge of IFRS and relevant financial legislation and regulations
    • Understanding of South African Reserve Bank (SARB) requirements
    • Proficiency in SAP S/4HANA or similar financial systems
    • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and the MS Office Suite
    • Experience in foreign exchange and hedge accounting
    • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills
    • Familiarity with investment tracking and reporting
    • Knowledge of treasury systems and cash management tools
    • Understanding of the Higher Education and external reporting environments

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform accurate and timely monthly bank reconciliations and ensure the clearing of accounts
    • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of bank statements and related entries
    • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cash flow forecasts
    • Process and verify foreign payment requests in line with regulatory and institutional requirements
    • Liaise with Standard Bank and SARB to ensure compliance on foreign transactions
    • Maintain foreign exchange and hedge accounting registers and records
    • Assist the Treasury Manager in tracking investment performance
    • Maintain and reconcile investment registers and income schedules
    • Prepare treasury-related schedules for reporting, budgeting, and audits
    • Maintain relationships with bank account managers and other financial partners
    • Ensure compliance with treasury policies and procedures
    • Identify and report treasury risks and control weaknesses, and implement corrective actions
    • Provide advisory and operational support to internal departments and finance teams

    Facilities & Maintenance Manager

    Minimum Requirements:

    • NQF Level 7 qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering, or a related field in the Built Environment.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in engineering maintenance management, including responsibility for HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems and supervision of technical staff and contractors.
    • Registered Professional (PrEng/PrTechEng).
    • Valid Driver’s Licence (essential for campus mobility).

    Key responsibilities:

    • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs for mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems.
    • Conduct diagnostics, inspections, and audits of all technical systems for safety and reliability.
    • Coordinate the operation of technical infrastructure supporting all campuses (power, HVAC, water, waste).
    • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for facilities operations and maintenance processes.
    • Manage the procurement, appointment, and performance of external maintenance contractors and service providers.
    • Develop clear specifications and service-level agreements (SLAs) for all outsourced services.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and site audits to ensure adherence to DUT’s quality and operational expectations.
    • Facilitate contract renewals, variations, and terminations in line with institutional procurement policies.
    • Lead, supervise, and motivate the facilities and maintenance team to achieve operational excellence and service delivery targets.
    • Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and ensure accountability through performance agreements and reviews.
    • Identify skills gaps and facilitate training, coaching, and continuous development of team members.
    • Manage succession planning and staff development to ensure business continuity in critical areas.
    • Prepare, manage, and monitor the annual maintenance budget and ensure expenditure remains within approved limits.
    • Track operational costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction and resource optimisation.
    • Ensure all procurement activities comply with institutional and legislative requirements. Review and approve financial documents related to maintenance projects, contracts, and operational expenses.
    • Maintain asset registers and ensure accurate reporting of maintenance-related costs.
