    Job Description

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • All administrative tasks related to the services rendered in the Western Cape. This will include but is not limited to Chemical mapping, Soil classification, singles samples, Precision Gateway and other general administrative tasks as allocated.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Follow up on Chemical mapping work scheduled on a weekly basis (Make sure that all data is received for work scheduled)
    • Receiving of Chemical mapping GPS data from contractors, the checking thereof and handle data related enquiries.
    • Sending details of Chemical soil samples, analysis and client info to the lab.
    • Handling of queries from the lab regarding chemical mapping samples.
    • Handling of queries from the contractors / Agronomist regarding chemical mapping and related admin.
    • Send combined GPS data and lab results to GIS and Agronomist for further processing and recommendations.
    • Completing the Chemical Mapping data on the the Business Info Worksheet on a daily basis for the timeous opening of Doc-IT’s
    • Obtaining signed order forms and Purchase Order Numbers for all Western Cape jobs
    • Requesting and sending out of invoices to Western Cape clients.
    • All admin related to singe samples
    • Gathering all necessary information regarding samples from clients.
    • Arranging the pick-up of samples from and the sending to the lab.
    • Follow-up and confirmation that the samples were received by the lab.
    • Opening an order line for all single samples on the Business Info Worksheet (BI)
    • Completing the lab list and sending an internal order number and client info to the lab
    • Obtaining signed order forms and Purchase Order Numbers for all singles samples
    • Saving of single sample order forms on the server
    • Keeping client info up to date on the Customer list on the BI
    • Making sure all data is up to date on a daily basis for the opening of Doc-It’s
    • Sending out of results of all single samples and coordinating with Agronomists if recommendations must be done.
    • Requesting client invoices for single samples
    • Sending out of invoices to clients for single samples
    • Help with other divisional tasks where requested.

    Supervisor- Fire Assay

    Job Description

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Supervise routine analytical techniques related to the established Fire Assay procedures. Assist with the coordination of progress of jobs and results between sections and other departments relating to fire assay work and results.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Supervise the FAS floor (weighing, fluxing, fusion, cupelling and dissolution of prills using either digestion or parting process) exactly to the relevant Competence Modules set (Weighing in Geochem Fire Assay, Fluxing in Geochem Fire Assay, Fusion, Cupellation, Digestion of Ag and Pd prills)
    • Punctuality at all times (15 min earlier to start time or 15 min later from knock off time depending on handover).
    • Ensure proper handover during shift change ensuring team leaders are following the proper hand over process (day, night & weekend shifts).
    • Assist in the effective and optimal utilization of staff, equipment and facilities within the department.
    • Liaise with the Team leaders/operators to ensure customer requirements are achieved with regard to the turnaround time commitments and Quality of results
    • Report daily production figures to Section Manager, and also reasonable explanations and evidence for targets.
    • Institute the necessary company corrective measures against subordinates for actions that are contrary to company rules & procedures by reporting to Section Manager.

    XRF Chemist

    Job Description

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • To outline the responsibilities and authorities the Chemist in XRF section has in relation to post requirements of managerial, technical and key support personnel.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    Quality Administrator

    Job Description

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • To maintain and assist expanding the quality system in the SGS Randfontein facility so as to ensure total compliance to ISO17025, SGS SA high level procedures and SGS Global requirements.

    • To take full control of the SGS document control system to be in line with the SGS high level system requirements and ISO17025 for all the Geochem laboratories.

    Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Administrator

    Job Description

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • Implement and coordinate a Health, Safety and Environmental system in accordance with Legal, regulatory, client and SGS OIMS requirements and systems.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Implement and maintain a Health, Safety and Environmental system within Randfontein;
    • Ensure that Randfontein fully comply with Legal, regulatory, client and SGS OI Management systems;
    • Provide shop floor level safety, health, environment related training to all Randfontein staff;
    • Ensure that risk assessments are available, updated and monitored for all Randfontein areas;
    • Ensure that a SHE inspection program exist, inspections distributed as required, controlled, and signed off by relevant Managers;
    • Perform monthly spot checks on all completed inspections in the Randfontein areas;
    • Perform weekly housekeeping inspections in alternative sections in the Randfontein areas;
    • Responsible for the administration of Chemwatch. Ensure that updated HCS lists area available and the relevant MSDS are uploaded onto Chemwatch. Ensure that up to date MSDS documents are available in all areas, ensure that all staff are trained on the relevant MSDS documents
    • Assist with compiling of documents (forms, procedures, competence modules etc) for Health, Safety and Environmental;
    • Ensure that a PPE survey is performed annually, and PPE Need analysis forms completed for all work processes.
    • Ensure that the control of PPE is appropriately issued, monitored, and requirements are updated in accordance with the Health, safety and environmental protocols;
    • Assist with SHE violations and disciplinary procedures;
    • Adhere to Randfontein and OI KPI requirement for monthly reporting of SHE information to Minerals OI;
    • Responsible for the administration of Crystal. Ensure that all hazards, near-misses, incidents are reported onto Crystal.  Ensure that all forms on Crystal are closed out within reasonable time frames on Crystal;
    • Form part of all incident investigations on Randfontein site;
    • Ensure that all deficiencies are reported to relevant departments for corrections;
    • Ensure that all contractors performing any tasks within Randfontein have been inducted, and ensure that the Safety Files are up-to-date and kept current.
    • Ensure that a Lead Program is introduced in all Fire Assay areas. 
    • Ensure medical surveillance and Biological monitoring for all staff at Randfontein is done as required, and medical registers are kept up to date;
    • Ensure that Emergency Team members are appointed and trained as per requirements.
    • Form part of the SHE Committee meeting, assist with the secretarial functions to ensure that minutes are kept, and communicated to all staff within a reasonable time frame
    • Ensure that all NNR requirements for the site is adhered to in accordance with requirements as per NNR documents, COR152
    • Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by Laboratory Manager and Minerals OI HSE Manager.

    Laboratory Technician

    Job Description

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • The Laboratory Technician shall be responsible for performing analytical tests on Chemical, Petroleum, Agricultural and other food related products. This is to determine whether a product conforms/does not conform to Client’s specifications.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform analysis using approved and valid test methods e.g. ASTM, IP, AOCS, BP etc.
    • All analysis to be performed with the highest level of accuracy and precision.

    Field Operator

    Job Description

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • The field operator is responsible for the execution of field related inspection activities in accordance to standard procedures, industry guidelines and / or clients instructions. 
    • In providing an independent service to the customer, the field operator shall perform his / her duties accurately and with the highest quality at all times.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Sampling of products from various sources eg. Road / Rail Tankers, Terminal tanks, ship tanks, Drums, etc.
    • Labeling of samples, registering and issuance to the Laboratory.
    • Tank gauging to determine level of product and temperature in storage tank and issuance of dip sheet and cleanliness certificates.
    • Inspection to determine cleanliness of container, eg. Road / Rail / ISO-tanks, Storage tanks, etc.
    • Inspection to determine cleanliness of pipelines (line pigging) and issuance of line cleanliness certificates.
    • Sealing of valves and hatches, eg. Pipeline / tank valves, road / rail tanker valves and hatches.
    • Recording of Inspection data / results in field notebook, accurately and neatly, so as to ensure easy traceability of data / results.
    • Completion of Inspection certificates and reports accurately and neatly.
    • Continuous updating of the Job File with the relevant Inspection reports or results.
    • To advise immediate supervisor or manager of changes / events that could have a detrimental effect on the Company or Business operations.
    • Crude tank farm operations, sealing / isolating pipeline valve system, sealing tanks, gauging, sampling, water draining, water cut and issuance of dip sheets.  Maintaining a log of tank farm event, delays, anomalies and deviations and reporting of these timeously to the respective surveyor / terminal personnel.
    • Witness packing of containers (drums, etc.) as per clients or internal procedures or other specific requirements.
    • Recording and collating weighbridge certificates, inspecting of road tankers.
    • Ensure sample and inspection equipment are clean and in working condition before and after use.
    • Maintaining the sample store room by placing samples for storage, systematically and removing samples, for safe disposal.
    • Recording of samples being placed in and being taken out of the storeroom in the sample register provided.
    • Ensure the Company vehicles are handled properly and kept in clean, presentable condition.
    • To perform all inspections (HSE vehicles, etc.) that is assigned to themselves.
    • To perform general housekeeping on our facility as well as regular housekeeping on motor vehicles.
    • To complete all CBT training that they have been registered with, in required time period.

    Sample Registration Supervisor

    Job Description

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ensure all Operational Procedures, company code of Ethics and Quality Management systems are adhered to for both Maitland & Centurion sites.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    Sample handling, storage and disposal

    • Ensure prompt and efficient handling, storage and transport of samples as per documented procedures.
    • Ensure disposal of cancelled samples
    • Ensure prompt registration of all samples
    • Attend to all operational matters related to work in progress at sample reception and new instructions received from customers and OPS / Technical Manager.
    • Liaise with Centralized Billing Team (CBT) regarding any matters arising

    Supervisory responsibilities

    • Extract information, evaluate, review and report on KPI’s
    • Liaise with and respond to internal queries from other departments.
    • Allocation of work
    • Training (technical, quality, safety) as required.

    Customer Liaison

    • Liaise with or the oversight of client’s communication

    Quality & Health & Safety System

    • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
    • Actively participate in safety related activities.
    • Always wear appropriate protective clothing.
    • Adhere to all relevant HSE procedures and protocols.
    • Keep workplace and equipment neat and tidy.

    • Experience in sample administration and registration for (5 years minimum) in a routine high throughput ISO 17025 Food testing facility.
    • Good communication skills
