    Miner Drilling & Blasting

    Job Description:
    The Miner - Drilling and Blasting is responsible for controlling the relevant mining process by the optimal utilisation of people and equipment to achieve stipulated targets in accordance with the mining plan.

    Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    • Coordinating and monitoring the relevant Drilling and Blasting activities to ensure adherence to mine standards and operational targets
    • The management of all SLC mining related Explosives
    • Control and management of the CBS, Electronic Det Timing
    • Bulk Emulsion Handling (storage, transportation, charging and blasting process)
    • Control of all Long Hole Drilling Consumables, Drill rods, Shanks, Drill bits etc
    • Dust control Management in drilling section
    • Planning activities in accordance with the mining plan and allocating resources as required
    • Coordinating shift hand over at the beginning of the shift by checking relevant documentation, the required physical mining activities and communicating tasks to team members of the relevant mining crew

    This role is in the Mining Department at a Band 8 Level and reporting to the Shift Boss.

    Qualifications:

    Job Description:

    Miner Road & Construction

    Job Description:
    The Miner – Road and Construction is responsible for TMM roadway maintenance and construction of mining services such as refuge bays, waiting places, service pipes, bund walls, ventilation doors and ventilation walls.

    Miner Secondary Breaking

    The Miner - Secondary Breaking is responsible for ensuring that he/she drill, prepares, charge, high hang-ups and blast big rocks inside the draw-points.

    Facilities Technician - 2 year FTC

    Job Description:
    You will improve quality and productivity designing, constructing, commissioning, modifying and maintaining all non-specialist plants on site and installations in the Sample Treatment Centre and Indicator Mineral Laboratory. Ensuring that all machinery is functioning correctly.

    Manager - Technical Services

    Key Responsibilities include: 

    • Lead Safety by Design – create the foundation for Safe and efficient mine design to support operational systems of work. Apply extensive knowledge and experience of Underground Mining systems and processes to lead the Mining Technical team and influence Mining Operations ensuring integrated and enabling solutions from design through to execution. Seek opportunities to systematically support efforts in leading and improving safety in all areas of the underground mine and integrated business.
    • Provide leadership, direction and co-ordination of Underground Mine Engineering Team and support underground technical functions to Venetia Underground Mine. Primarily - Mine Ventilation, Underground Geotechnical, Underground Survey, Underground Mine Planning/scheduling. Including Underground Operational Geology function integration into mining technical and operational mine processes.
    • Review, set and finalise annual budgets and technical mine plans, cascading through to business tactics and short-range plans and actions. Develop first principle mining budgets from mine plans for equipment, consumables, labor, mining costs. Provide key review input and guidance to Long Term Planning teams, Life of Mine and RDP work requirements.
    • Develop systems, management processes and routines for effective work management and medium-short range execution planning of mining technical department work, integrating into aligned, achievable and challenging operational tactics and work plans and schedules for Mining Operations Teams.
    • Establish a detailed and integrated suite of Underground quality control and performance measures reporting and reviewing compliance ensuring high technical and operating mine performance culture. Ensure effective management control and understanding of all key and critical underground mining parameters.
    • Drive improvement and innovation in underground mining technical and design & operating processes through engagement with external stakeholders, key suppliers and OEM’s and internal business stakeholders.
    • Work within and across multi stakeholder BU & T/S Mining Teams, supporting other Heads, Leads and Principles in delivering departmental and BU objectives in support of BU and Business Goals. Ensure effective team collaboration to combine our strengths, support each other to deliver targeted outcomes.

    Qualifications:

    • Formal qualification in Mine Engineering, with a minimum requirement of a Bachelor Engineering Mining Degree.

    Role specific knowledge and experience:

    • Extensive underground hard rock mining engineering site and home office based operational, technical and management experience that demonstrates successful application of underground mining engineering fundamentals, Safety, Technical Leadership and Operational mining systems. 
    • Extensive experience at multiple large scale modern mechanised mines – operating, supervisory and operational leadership experience specific to effective management of safe and efficient best practice underground mechanised mining operations. 
    • Demonstrated supervisory and management experience in operational and technical mining roles within a best practice underground mechanised mining project or operation.
    • Risk and Crisis management training and practical experience.
    • Proven ability of successfully leading technical Systems establishment (technical, operations, maintenance, cost), performance improvement and management in UG mechanised mines. Safety Leadership, site planning and budgeting processes, risk control and management, emergency planning and management.
    • Proven experience at mines considered global ‘’best practice’’ for underground mechanised mines – ability to introduce systems, standards and practices into VUP to support achieving company Breakthrough and P101 performance targets.

    Manager– Operational Readiness & Transition

    Job Description:
    The Operational Readiness & Transition Manager will lead a team of people who will be responsible for the planning and execution of the integration and transition from open pit to underground operations, with no production hiatus or loss of revenue.

    Key responsibilities include: 

    • Ensure an awareness and understanding of Anglo American operations-related standards including specific governance and South African legislative requirements.
    • Develop an integrated, cross-functional Operational Readiness Plan aligned with the greater Project Execution Plan (PEP), Production / Business Plan (as captured in the Business Case / Investment Proposal) and in-line with Anglo American associated standards.
    • Analysis and definition of the scope of the operations / change to operations (Operations Breakdown Structure).
    • Development of the Operations Breakdown Structure classifying business processes, people / skills requirements and technologies to support (including governance, permits, legislation related to all of these).
    • Integration / alignment with Project Construction (including key elements of procurement e.g. drills, trucks, loaders, etc. and commissioning).
    • Set up Operational Readiness and Transition for success, including alignment on roles and responsibilities within the Operational Readiness team and with key stakeholders required to ensure effective operational ramp-up eg Construction and Commissioning teams, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), Future Operations Management, Communities, Workers and their Unions.
    • Ensure transparent reporting of progress supported by QA of the data collection process, analysis and interpretation of root cause of variance as well as remedial actions to rectify or alternatively substantiated forecasted impact to the project.
    • Demonstrate effective leadership and management of a cross-functional team to ensure efficient ramp-up of underground operation against objectives as defined in the project Business Case and in line with the De Beers values.

    Qualifications:

    • University degree/diploma in Mining or Engineering.
    • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent (Master’s degree, or equivalent) in Business Leadership, or relevant technical field eg Mine Manager’s Certificate.
    • Qualification in Project Management.
    • Successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) on mine.
    • Role specific knowledge and experience: 

    Extensive knowledge and experience in the following areas:

    • Mining and related operations environment, including underground caving operations.
    • Technical areas including Geology, Mining, Metallurgy, Engineering.
    • Construction / Engineering project management of large to mega sized projects ( value > US$ 250 Million)
    • Operational readiness and transition experience
    • General management experience
    • Contractor management
    • Organisational Change Management

    Long Hole Drill Rig Operator

    Job Description:

    • Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation and health, safety, environmental and security policies and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion.
    • Take over/ hand over shift from off/on-going drill rig operator, attend to any abnormalities first, and then report to the supervisor to receive further instructions.
    • Perform visual Inspections of equipment before, during and after operation according to departmental procedure to minimise breakdowns and operational losses by the timeous reporting of defects / abnormalities to Supervisor.
    • Operate equipment according to relevant mining requirements and Standard Operating Procedures to achieve daily drilling targets.
    • Report and record relevant operational data as required by department procedures to compile production reports.
    • Conduct efficient housekeeping of equipment and work area in accordance with departmental requirements.
    • Perform all activities according to instructions, procedures and mining needs.
    • Participate in cost saving initiatives and adhere to financial procedures.

    Qualifications:
    Formal qualifications:

    • Grade 12 / N3 / Equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
    • MQA Competent B certificate for underground
    • Long Hole Drill Rig Certificate
    • An underground metalliferous blasting certificate /MQA Rock Breaking Certificate will be advantageous.

    Additional requirements:

    • Code B or higher Driver’s License
    • Required classification as per VTS testing for specific role (Orange +)
    • Medical Certificate of Fitness to work underground

    Role-specific knowledge:

    • Proven Minimum of 3 year’s practical experience of operating a long hole drill rig (Simba/ Solo) in an underground massive mining environment
    • Previous experience in Sub-level caving/ Block caving will be a definite advantage.

    Sound knowledge and experience of:

    • Underground mining practices and operations
    • Underground long hole drilling knowledge and skills
    • Safety, Health and Environmental Legislation and standards applicable to underground mining
    • Competent to drill 100 to 150 meters per shift

    Mechanical Designer

    Job Description:
    The main purpose of this role is to provide CAD expertise to the mechanical engineering function in the form of conceptual, preliminary and detailed parametric 3D model designs along with associated manufacturing detail drawings in accordance with De Beers Group Technology standards and procedures.

    Additionally, the successful incumbent will be required to:

    • Support the concept generation of mechanical systems 
    • Generate parametric 3D CAD models of designs, along with associated part, assembly, and detailed drawings 
    • Deliver high quality, innovative and cost effective technical design solutions 
    • Assimilate technical input from various sources (including peers, project leaders and managers) to aid the generation of technical solutions and project progression
    • Present own design solutions and associated developed information
    • Adhere to relevant safety and environmental standards of systems and sub-systems and  support the development of products that satisfy internal company standards and meet required safety and environmental standards (such as ISO 18801, ISO 14001
    • Document all work to a high standard for various stakeholders (management, team members, end users, etc.)

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum: Engineering Design/Drawing Diploma or equivalent

    Knowledge and experience required:

    • Significant experience in product and mechanical design
    • 3D Computer Aided Design (solid modelling, surface modelling, assemblies, drawings) ideally using Creo (although others will be considered)
    • Experience of product development lifecycle (cradle to grave)
    • Experience in developing complex mechanical systems for high-precision products
    • Experience of integrated electro-mechanical systems, high speed mechanics and special purpose machinery
    • Experience in designing for compliance to global standards (i.e. safety and environmental standards)
