    Director: Centre for Student Counselling and Development

    About the job

    Duties

    • Overall management and coordination of all the Centre's activities;
    • Managing the development and implementation of an integrated psychology service to enrolled students;
    • Closely collaborating with faculties and other support service divisions regarding student wellness;
    • Providing a consultation service to management, committees and faculties;
    • Managing the Centre's Psychology CPD Well Programme for sustainable accreditation of psychologists;
    • Providing support to the Senior Director: Student Affairs;
    • Responsible for financial and staff management of the Centre (including performance management and staff development);
    • Representing the University at relevant external forums;
    • Initiating and executing relevant research in order to maintain cutting edge service delivery.

    Job Requirements

    • A Master's degree in Psychology;
    • Professional registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist;
    • At least five year's management experience in a public Higher Education environment;
    • Proven experience of administration (including financial administration);
    • Exceptional verbal and written language skills in English and Afrikaans;
    • Proven knowledge of and experience in student counselling and development;
    • Proven exposure to the science practitioner model;
    • Proof of involvement with student counselling and development on a national level.

    Recommendation

    • A PhD, or current enrollment for a PhD degree, in a relevant field within Psychology;
    • Proof of involvement with student counselling and development on an international level;
    • Proficiency in an additional African language, especially isiXhosa.

    Intern Psychologists

    About the job

    Duties

    • Delivering psychological services to students, prospective students, as well as scholars (Grade R - 7), including psychometric assessment, academic counselling, career development counselling and psychotherapy;
    • Presenting workshops;
    • Writing psychological reports;
    • Conducting intake interviews;
    • Performing administrative tasks;
    • Participating in individual and group supervision;
    • Case presentations;
    • Conducting relevant research to support case work.

    Job Requirements

    • Proof of registration or proof of successful completion of a structured Master's programme in Educational Psychology;
    • A completed module in Career Counselling at Master's level;
    • Knowledge of and experience in a narrative approach to career counselling;
    • A scientific-practical approach to the development of essential skills to foster student success;
    • Knowledge of the Children's Act No. 38 of 2005 and the application thereof;
    • Knowledge and experience with regards to therapeutic interventions of younger children and parents;
    • Experience in compiling and facilitating group work sessions;
    • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as Intern Psychologist in Educational Psychology on appointment;
    • Computer proficiency;
    • The ability to work under pressure;
    • The ability to work effectively in a team;
    • The ability to work according to a fixed schedule in a structured environment and deliver a quality service.

    Recommendation

    • Work experience within a multidisciplinary professional team;
    • Above average written and verbal proficiency in English and one other official South African language.
