Job description: Pattern Maker

We are looking for a highly organized, proactive and energetic Pattern Maker to join our dynamic team. Must be able to create basic blocks, sample development patterns working closely with designers. Must have a good understanding on grading. 

What will you do?

• Ability to interpret the designers detailed brief and/or sample provided and construct a pattern
• Ability to create manual paper patterns as well as electronic patterns on Gerber
• Creation and maintenance of a pattern library
• Ability to adjust patterns for different fabrics and knowledge of grading
• Key knowledge of fabric reactions and compositions
• Maintain a close working relationship with seamstress to ensure ease of construction and top quality execution
• Fittings with designer and garment technologist on any alterations required
• Process all pattern alterations timeously in order of priority
• Checking of graded nest before production commences
• Must have good attention to detail
• Analyze new style developments and promote more efficient garment construction techniques for production

What do you need to succeed?

• Fashion design or equivalent Diploma/ Degree
• 2-5 years pattern making experience
• Manual and Gerber Accunest/Lectra computerised pattern making experience is advantageous
• Experience working in a design centre or a manufacturer supplying retail stores would be advantageous
• Good mathematical skills
• Strong technical knowledge of pattern and garment construction
• Attention to detail
• Work well under pressure and to deadlines
• Collaborative team player

Job description: Garment Technologist

We are looking for a highly organized and energetic Garment Technologist to co-ordinate the technical requirements of our business across our 5 brands.

You will need excellent communication skills, healthy understanding of costings & garment technology, fabrics, grading and fits with strong Microsoft Excel skills. You will be accountable for tracking sample development from brief stage from the design to the sealed sample and deal with all production co-ordination requirements between production, the design team and design room.

What will you do?

• Conducting fit meetings with the designer and pattern maker
• Assessing and approving fit samples, PP samples and shipment samples.
• Fabric tests and wash care instructions
• AQL reports / Quality audit reports
• Provide technical guidance to designers to achieve a desired design and silhouette and improve construction
• Assess fit, fabric and trim compatibility and ability to problem solve
• Highlight fit and quality issues of pre-production samples and provide solutions accordingly
• Approve pre-production and off bulk specs before bulk production commences
• Checking, measuring and approving sample garments
• Establish and maintain sizing and grade rule standards
• Frequent store visits for quality purposes
• Set standards relative to the business strategy

What do you need to succeed?

• Fashion design or equivalent Diploma/ Degree
• 2-5 years fashion industry work experience with a strong emphasis on garment technology & production
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Strong problem solving skills
• Proficiency in Illustrator and Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel
• Good organization skills required as well as the ability to proactively self-prioritize workflow to ensure deadlines are met
• Collaborative team player
• Experience in pattern making and garment construction
• A pro-active approach would be advantageous
