Job Title: Resident Engineer (RE)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Site supervision of construction activities including the management of contractors and meeting critical project deadlines;
• Managing and monitoring assistant resident engineers (ARE’s)
• Monitor the Contractors progress of projects on site.
• Keep a daily diary and do weekly reporting of site activities to Project Engineer.
• Completion of project administration including payment certificate preparation.
• Ensure compliance with Bosch Projects ISO 9001/2015 QMS System and attending to site inspections to ensure full compliance with internal and external audits.
• Report daily to the Project Engineer on project implementation activities.
• Design changes must be referred to the Engineer.
• Liaise with the Contractors Site Agent with regard to all aspects of the work.
• Assists the ARE’s in liaising with the relevant service providers to co-ordinate the alteration/relocation of their services.
• Assists the Project Manager in compiling minutes of site meetings with the Contractor and Client.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum academic requirement – BTech / BEng / BSc degree in Civil Engineering.
• Have a minimum of 4 - 7 years’ experience in Civil Engineering site management.
• Registered with ECSA as a professional.
• Have experience in the water reticulation construction
• Familiar with SAICE / FIDIC General Conditions of Contract 2015
• Be capable of functioning independently and as part of a project team.
• Be self-driven with a capacity for continuous self – improvement.
• Have a valid driver’s license and own transport.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Develop, in consultation with the Regional Director, Marketing Director and Sector Director, a business development plan and growth plan for Industrial work in the region, in line with the overall regional budgets and strategic growth targets;
• Manage the preparation of relevant proposals, negotiation, and marketing processes;
• Lead and co-ordinate multi-disciplinary engineering project teams on varying appointments within the Industrial sectors which will primarily be in the FMCG and process plant sectors;
• Provide technical and management expertise and be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from inception, through feasibility into construction and commissioning;
• Fulfil a lead engineering role on multi-faceted industrial projects, where in instances, this could be performing such tasks whilst being on-site based projects;
• Manage and maintain Client relationships and co-ordinate project execution within scope, timeframe, safety, cost and to the Client’s satisfaction;
• Effectively manage sub-contractors as well as site staff;
• Participate in engineering activities and interdisciplinary interfaces in close cooperation with the other discipline engineers;
• Ensure that all the Industrial projects are undertaken in accordance with the Quality Management System.

The ideal Candidate should:

• Have a BSc / BEng degree in mechanical or chemical engineering or appropriate /
• similar qualification;
• Be registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA;
• Have a minimum of 12 years’ appropriate post qualification experience in the consulting engineering sector with particular experience in FMCG or process sector;
• Possess a detailed understanding of engineering activities required for consulting,
• engineering services, EPCM and EPC contracts;
• Possess a broad understanding of, and have interacted with other design engineering
• disciplines, i.e. Process, Civil/Structural, Instrumentation, and Electrical;
• Have strong leadership and management skills in managing project teams;
• Be competent in managing all commercial and financial aspects of projects, including
• terms of appointment, fees and invoicing/forecasting, project profitability, and debtor
• control;
• Be experienced in the compilation and submission of tenders and proposals for
• procuring consulting engineering work;
• Be skilled in networking with potential clients / business partners and to secure​
• Have personal attributes aligned with the Bosch Way (Values and Culture);
• Be prepared to travel within and outside RSA borders;
• Be capable of functioning independently and as part of a project team.
