    Trainee Claims Assessor

    Job Description

    This Claims Assessing Development Program position prepares participants for a career in claims assessing, through a robust in-house training program. The claims assessing trainees will learn about our assessing philosophy, business unit products, specialist technical knowledge to evaluate and manage the validity of contracts and determine and manage the liability of claims.

    The Claims Assessing Development Program will span over a period of twelve (12) months. During the 12 month period, candidates will be assessed by way of examinations, audits, assignments and practical application of knowledge. As knowledge base increases, participants will gradually be given more responsibility within the department. Trainee Assessors on the Development Program will begin by selecting and accepting risk and/or liability on behalf of the organization and evaluates proposals and medical evidence against business rules and practices.

    At the end of the twelve month period comprehensive audits will be conducted to establish overall quality of work and decision making capability. Success will be measured by a predetermined minimum pass rate.

    KEY RESULT AREAS

    Risk Management

    • Be responsible for own claims assessment decisions, under the supervision of a mentor.
    • Uses specialist technical knowledge to evaluate and manage the validity of contracts and determine and manage the liability of claims.
    • Determines, selects and accepts risk and/or liability on behalf of the organisation.
    • Evaluates proposals and medical evidence against business rules and practices.
    • Exercises discretion in decision making within standardised practice.
    • Effectively handle all intermediary enquires and give advice regarding specific requirements and impairments.
    • Accurately capture Claims assessment information into the product administration system.
    • Gather and review information on risk exposures, and economic trends that may impact claim decisions

    Role Requirements

    • Matric with Biology or Mathematics or Accounting
    • Bilingual, English and one other official language- essential.
    • Completed medical / medically aligned degree, e.g. Nursing; Occupational Therap
    • Physiotherapy, or a three (3) year related diploma would be an advantage
    • Specialised medical knowledge through learning or experience will be advantageous
    • PC proficiency
    • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    • Strong planning, organising and time-management skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure whilst still maintaining a professional image.

    Job Description

We seek to create seamless and personalized experiences for our 13 million customers globally. Its core purpose is to design, implement and support key datasets that provides structured and timely access to actionable business information whilst championing the needs of the customer always. The Digital & Data team applies customer-focused design thinking, data management, cloud engineering, agile and lean development methodologies, and continuous delivery practices in its deliveries.

    This team’s primary focus is to build and establish the data platform capability by applying industry knowledge, best practices and innovative ideas to take Old Mutual into the future through the use of best of the breed technologies and applied thinking and processes on its strategic journey to the cloud.

    To complement the existing cross-functional team, Old Mutual is looking for a DevOps Engineer who will design and implement scalable and robust solutions to support the data engineering capability. This role will be responsible for designing, implementing and operationalising the environment within Data Platform. Use best practices in cloud engineering, data management and data storage to continue our drive to optimize the way that data is stored, consumed and ultimately democratized.

    • Request For Change (RFC) management in Amazon Managed Services (AMS) (logging, escalation, resolution)
    • Provisioning infrastructure in AWS (via RFC process, CloudFormation, Console)
    • AWS Security Management (authoring IAM security policies, logging security requests, user management/permissions)
    • Infrastructure As Code (development of CloudFormation templates )
    • Development, deployment and management of CICD (Continuous Integration Continuous Deployment ) pipelines.
    • Linux and Windows System Administration within AWS (SSH, RDP).
    • New AWS account creation and initial setup (networking and VPC setup)

    Role & Qualifications Requirements

    • Tertiary qualification in ANY of the following:
    • Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
    • Technical IT diploma from a recognised IT training institution

    Intermediate Actuarial Specialist: Capital Reporting

    Job Description

    • The Group Actuarial team is part of the Old Mutual Group Finance division, reporting directly to the Group Chief Financial Officer. The team operates and provides exposure across all the businesses in Old Mutual including the various different jurisdictions.
    • The team has an opportunity available for a candidate with considerable progress with actuarial examinations, to gain unique experience in the inner workings of a complex financial services group. This role will report to the Capital Reporting Actuary and is responsible for delivering various risk metrics for internal and regulatory reporting as part of a small team of actuarial students.
    • The role will build networks across the wider Group, which will assist with future career development as part of Old Mutual’s actuarial rotation programme.

    Key Result Areas

    Reporting – Historical reporting of capital for regulatory submissions (quarterly / half-yearly / annual QRTs) and for external publication (half-yearly OML results booklets and financial statements).

    • Production of Credit Risk results.
    • Managing the delivery dates and reviewing data supplied.
    • Maintaining and improving the tools used in the various processes.
    • Producing capital sensitivity results.
    • Capital forecasting projections as part of the annual Business Plan process and regular capital allocation updates
    • Scenario testing of capital levels under a range of scenarios (for the annual ORSA process as well as ad-hoc when required).
    • Earnings At Risk metric production that forms part of the ORSA as well as the business’ governance framework.
    • Business support through providing executive team with analysis of impact of proposed balance sheet changes on overall OMLACSA capital (e.g. change of ownership structure, business acquisition / disposal).
    • Project support to the Group Finance project team where their deliveries need capital calculations (e.g. Prudential Authority applications).

    Qualifications and Experience required:

    • Actuarial student with a minimum of 9 exam
    • At least 2 years’ actuarial experience
    • Finance reporting experience will be highly beneficial
    • Strong technical skills in actuarial reserving and analysis of surplus
    • Strong detail orientation coupled with the ability to see the “big picture”
    • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
    • Motivated self-starter who shows initiative, is proactive, looks for ways to improve
    • Able to complete tasks within agreed timelines and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance

    Job Description

    The Legacy & Product Management team is looking for a suitably qualified individual for an Intermediate Actuarial Specialist role within the Product Solutions area. The Legacy & Product Management team is responsible for product management and performance for both savings and income products in the Old Mutual Retail market.

    We are looking for someone driven and excited to take on new challenges to help us grow, maintain and improve our existing Retail Investment Proposition. In joining the team, you will provide support to various functions measuring and/or enhancing product performance as well as supporting projects.
