    Academic Head of Division - Paediatric Neurology (AC.06.3)

    Brief Posting Description

    • The Division of Neurology in the Department of Paediatrics & Child Health invites suitably qualified Joint staff, interested in being part of a dynamic, growing academic division, to apply for this Academic Headship.
    • This position would be suitable for those with a commitment to academic excellence and educational leadership in a multi-disciplinary environment, exceptional interpersonal skills, capacity for innovative and original thinking, ability to exercise a high degree of personal initiative in organising his/her own responsibilities and a commitment to working to deadlines calmly and efficiently.

    Qualifications:

    • A medical qualification, registerable with the HPCSA as a specialist
    • The candidate must be a sub-specialist in Paediatric Neurology and a full-time employee within the Wits Teaching platform (Current Joint staff).
    • At least 5 years' experience as a Paediatric sub specialist in Neurology,
    • At least 5 years’ experience at mid-management level,

    Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (x2 Posts) - Clinical Psychology (AC.08.4)

    Brief Description        
    Requirements for Lecturer: 

    • PhD degree and Masters degree in Clinical Psychology. Applicants with significant progress towards a PhD may be considered. 
    • Proven research ability as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and/or research reports
    • Registration with the HPCSA in the category of Clinical Psychologist for three years or more

    Brief Description        
    The successful candidate will:

    • Hold a professionally accredited M.Arch (Prof) degree, or a professionally accredited B.Arch degree and a Masters degree in any related discipline.  
    • Be registered as a Professional Architect with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP), or eligible for registration, and have at least 5 years of experience post-professional registration.  
    • Be working in professional practice with a degree of flexibility to the work schedule which allows for participation in academic activities.

    Senior Lecturer - Higher Education: Curriculum & Assessment (AC.07.4)

    Key Responsibilities

    Teaching and Supervision:

    • A record of peer-reviewed publications in accredited journals, with evidence of ongoing research productivity in Higher Education, particularly in curriculum studies with a focus on assessment.

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Digital Business (2 Positions) (BA.07.4)

    Brief Description        
    Key responsibilities:

    • The successful candidate will be actively involved in the development, teaching and administration of core digital business courses and programmes. The successful candidate will teach post-graduate modules in digital business, focusing on innovation, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, digital business fundamentals, and digital business in Africa. In addition, s/he will play a leading role in programme management and programme reviews in the Digital Business area. 

    Job requirements:

    Associate Professor (AC06) (AC.06.3)

    Brief Description        

    • The Wits School of Education is seeking to appoint a suitable candidate at Associate Professor level to contribute to the School’s Initial Teacher Education and postgraduate programmes.
    • The suitable candidate will be expected to lecture at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supervise postgraduate research, conduct research, and contribute to the advancement of Science Education as a school subject.
    • The Associate Professor will be expected to teach fundamental skills required for all aspects of life sciences and conduct research in the growing area of research in teaching and learning life science in diverse classrooms, pedagogical innovations in the teaching and learning of life science, education for sustainable development, teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge, and developing innovative pedagogies with technology.     • Graduation of at least ten (10) masters and at least four (5) doctoral students.

    The successful candidate must meet the following criteria to be appointed: 

    • Be able to teach planning theory and urban politics. Having experience in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage: land use management, planning law, planning technologies, development economics, community participation, municipal governance and quantitative methods.  
    • Undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching experience.
    • Capacity to supervise research reports at the tertiary level, preferably should have a record of research supervision at honours and masters level.

    • Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in the field of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry.
    • Applicants must demonstrate a sustained track record of scholarly publications in accredited journals, along with the successful supervision of postgraduate students.
    • A proven ability to secure external funding and evidence of national and international research collaboration.
    • Excellent communication and lecturing skills, coupled with a strong passion for teaching and research, are required.

    Recommendations and Desirable Skills

    Lecturer: Film & Television Department (AC.08.4)

    Brief Description        
    Responsibilities: 

    • The person appointed will be required to teach technical, creative and theoretical aspects of cinematography, with a specific emphasis on camerawork and lighting. The lecturer will champion the discipline of cinematography within the division. The person will be required to mentor student digital film productions and be involved in curriculum design and development, project assessments and be responsible for playing a leading role in steering the technical infrastructure in the division. 

    Candidate Attributes:

    • Besides lecturing in Cinematography as a specialisation, the person appointed will also be required to teach in other courses, hence some background in critical theory, cinema studies, or other filmmaking disciplines would be beneficial.
    • The post requires involvement with divisional and School portfolios as part of their academic citizenship. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to broader academic planning, and to teach in other courses in the School, as well as partake in general divisional meetings and operational processes.

    • We are looking for a professional with extensive experience as a Director of Photography across a variety of factual and fictional formats - minimum 5 years of film and television industry experience in the camera department. 
    • As a division preoccupied with ‘film as art’ we would like to see a diversity of work in your showreel that demonstrates an ability to execute different stylistic/aesthetic approaches, and illustrate your creative understanding of cinematography – i.e. one that views filmmaking as an expressive art form and not just a profession for hire. 
    • Apart from a core cinematography focus, the successful candidate should have a deep understanding of the whole filmmaking processes and be up to date with the latest digital video technologies, experience with pre-production / on-set production and, to some degree, post production workflows.
    • We would like to find someone who would be able to help drive and update the development of our technological infrastructure, new ways of distribution and equipment check-out systems. The candidate should ideally also have an appropriate understanding and passion for the new emerging digital technologies and in new media delivery landscapes.  
    • Preference will be given to suitably qualified candidates from designated groups which includes people of colour and womxn as defined in the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998.

    Academic qualifications, experience and attributes:

    • As a minimum, have a Masters degree but candidates with a PhD (or in process of obtaining a doctorate qualification) will be given preference. Candidates who express interest in completing a doctoral degree and pursuing creative research will be given strong consideration. 
    • Some teaching experience is a prerequisite – although university-level teaching experience would be an advantage, it is not a requirement. 
    • This 100% position is ideally suited to someone from the industry wishing to transition to a full-time training and teaching career and would want to develop research and/or creative profile in film studies within a School of Arts. 
    • Be invested in the teaching process, and suited to managing student productions, as well trouble-shooting technological issues and contributing to video/film equipment training, maintenance and upgrading processes. 
    • Be a committed team player within the division, but also be invested in cross-disciplinary explorations within the School of Arts.

    • The Faculty of Humanities invites applications for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist. The purpose of this post is to provide support to the Teaching and Learning Unit, in collaboration with stakeholders, to further advance preventative and therapeutic interventions for students.     • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Counselling Psychologist 
    • Two to five years’ experience working as a clinical/counselling psychologist.
    • Experience in the field of advocacy for mental health, training and student development practices in tertiary education would be an advantage. 
    • Formal or Informal experience in comparative interfaith and African spiritual care would be an advantage
    • Experience in the facilitation and presentation of psycho-educational workshops with students in tertiary institutions would be an advantage.

    Director: Campus Protection Services (AD04) (AD.04.3)

    The main purpose of this position is to:

    • Provide leadership, direct and manage Campus Protection Services in the seamless, integrated and holistic provision of safety and security services with primary emphasis on students, staff, visitors and all University assets across the University’s precincts. 

    Key responsibilities and activities include the following:

    • Develop and implement crime prevention strategies for the University and its surrounding perimeter. This includes facilitating engagement and an effective interface between the relevant stakeholders within the inner city and the University, which includes engagement with Community Policing Forums, the Mayor’s office; Private Security Providers, various Improvement District structures within the inner city amongst others.
    • Lead the University’s safety and security strategies and initiatives during protests (both staff and student protests) in a way which protects life, limb and property and in a way which mitigates against reputational harm to the University.
    • Management of security of VIP’s including members of Parliament; Foreign Diplomats; local and foreign High Net worth Individuals; CEO’s and Vice-Chancellors of other Institutions, amongst others.
    • Lead the University’s safety and security strategies, initiatives and implementation for large public events convened on the campuses, or in the immediate vicinity of the campuses in collaboration with the relevant City and Regional authorities.
    • Devise and oversee the implementation of strategic security services initiatives, both for physical and technical security, in pursuit of tactical protection of all students, staff, visitors and assets on all University properties.
    • Spearhead the prevention and detection of crime on the campuses/property and the immediate perimeters of these. This requires the pre-emptive detection and management of crime syndicates within and outside of the University.
    • Plan, manage and coordinate security operations on a 24-hour basis.
    • Oversee the investigation of and report on security issues to the DVC: Systems and Operations; ensuring that the University’s Legal and Employee Relations Offices are provided with dockets that pass legal muster.
    • Ensure effective liaison for security issues with, but not limited to, the JMPD, SAPS, fire department, government departments and the City Joint Operations Committee.  Assumes a leadership role in crisis planning and incident response.
    • Deployment of Smart Technologies to enable seamless, safe and controlled access and egress to the University.
    • Overseeing effective budgeting and supply chain management.

    Required Academic Qualification/s, competences, and experience:

    • Relevant Bachelor’s degree and advanced or Postgraduate Diploma in Security Management, Policing or equivalent (Master’s degree will be advantageous) .
    • A minimum of 15 years in a security and/or crime prevention environment, with at least 10 years in a senior management position.
    • Experience within higher education will be an added advantage.
    • PSIRA Grade A certification
    • Valid Code B Driver’s License
    • The candidate must be able to pass an extensive background investigation and provide a police clearance certificate.
    • The candidate must possess the technical skills and knowledge systems necessary to enable the University to stay abreast of security-related developments and trends in the sector.
    • Ability to work on weekends, evenings and public holidays as and when necessary.
