    Strategy Delivery Lead: Environmental Programme

    Minimum Requirements

    • The Strategy Delivery Lead should be highly structured, focused, logical, leads teams/ people by example, pays attention to detail, focuses on building functioning and efficient management systems, empathetic, inspirational, and with a commitment to excellence.
    • An advanced qualification in environmental science, or a suitably-related discipline, and/ or an exceptional track record and experience of operational delivery
    • At least 10 years, or equivalent in-depth, experience in managing complex multi-dimensional teams, programmes and projects
    • Highly structured work approach with strong coordination and administrative management capabilities
    • Strong leadership, interpersonal and management skills

    Duties and Responsibilities

    General:

    • Establish and maintain ways of working that build greater strategic cohesion, alignment and integration across the various place-based programmes and thematic areas of expertise
    • Establish and maintain efficient ways of working that drive excellence in project- and programme management across Environmental Programme
    • Work with the enabling functions of Finance & Business Support to ensure internal operational systems and processes are effective and efficient.
    • Establish and maintain an Annual Cycle that provides a structured way to align strategic direction, plan resources and capacities, measure and report impact, and learn and adapt strategies and plans (i.e. a structured Annual cycle for Monitoring Evaluation & Learning (MEL) that links to Strategic plans, workplans and resource & budget plans)
    • Drive the integration and adoption of ESSF standards in our work & oversee reporting to WWF network

    Recruitment

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Southern Africa Wildlife Trafficking Hub Lead (50%)

    • Support the implementation of national wildlife trafficking policies in key countries and critical landscapes across southern Africa;
    • Assist in maintaining relationships with key government agencies in collaboration with country offices
    • Promote synergies across the region in wildlife trafficking policies and their implementation
    • Increase understanding of the national and regional dynamics of trafficking of high value wildlife products;
    • Support research into transboundary, regional, and/or global trade dynamics of illegal wildlife products (for example trade routes and transport methods), to assist law enforcement action, build awareness on illegal wildlife trade (IWT) and support legal and policy developments
    • Strengthen capacity to address wildlife trafficking through targeted actions along the value chain from prevention and detection to investigation and prosecution, and share best practices;
    • Build technical capacity within our networks and relevant Government agencies for implementation of strategies that address wildlife trafficking and development of technical skills

    • Support the implementation of critical wildlife trafficking policy frameworks for South Africa and Mozambique to increase crime prevention, detection, prosecution and collaboration.
    • Support landscape-level initiatives to improve protected area management and security for the benefit of conservation partners and local communities.
    • Provide technical expertise to efforts to develop an innovative financing & wildlife economy model in the Greater Kruger area.
    • Work with a range of state and private sector partners to develop ranger/law enforcement personnel leadership and resilience to corruption in context of wildlife crime.
    • Oversee efforts to safeguard rhinos in the Intensive Protection Zone of the Greater Kruger area.
    • Assist in the development of strong inter-agency teams across conservation agencies and law enforcement agencies to enhance prosecutions of trafficking perpetrators.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Support the development and implementation of the annual Khetha work plan, with a focus on how the plan creates communication and relationship-building opportunities.
    • Provide strategic leadership for communications and stakeholder engagement, captured in a communication and stakeholder engagement plan that can be tracked over time. This should include the development of a social media monitoring and engagement strategy.
    • Drive learning, collaboration and coordination with influential institutions in the Greater Kruger landscape to strengthen the collective response to wildlife trafficking and community engagement.
    • Conduct and oversee all donor and internal reporting to ensure reports are submitted on time, in the correct format and to the highest standard.
    • Oversee all program communications, including final review and sign-off of communication campaigns, reports and other communication products. Ensure all Khetha and partner organisations’ products are compliant with donor branding and marking guidelines.
    • Support specific landscape-level communication initiatives, such as GEF 6,7, the Greater Kruger Strategic Development Programme, the GLTFCA Cooperative Agreement, etc. Raise awareness of the importance of communication in the conservation sector with all partners. Provide technical communications and capacity building support/training to program partners and beneficiaries.
    • Plan and participate in all donor and other stakeholder site visits to project areas.
    • Assist with the design and planning of research projects to ensure results are accessible to non-specialist audiences and can inform adaptive management and Khetha program design (includes hosting community-based research symposiums and technical webinars that provides feedback on Khetha's research outputs).
    • Improve media reporting on wildlife crime to provide balanced perspectives on its impacts on wildlife and local people.
    • Organise and oversee training on mediation, conflict resolution, peacebuilding and dialogue facilitation for conservation practitioners.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Project manage all community-oriented initiatives implemented by consultants and partners, including all the aspects of the contract life cycle, and monitoring the achievement of deliverables according to standards of the highest quality.
    • Conduct regular site visits (at least monthly) with project partners for all ongoing projects.
    • Provide regular feedback regarding projects and consultancies (at least weekly) regarding challenges, opportunities and overall progress to Khetha programme management and relevant team members.
    • Support seconded employees with their Khetha-related work and ensure they are optimally included in Khetha-related projects.

    • Support local communities to develop a game-meat value chain as part of efforts to develop innovative finance models in the Greater Kruger.
    • Explore community-engagement and socio-economic development partnership opportunities with provincial conservation agencies, biosphere organisations, NGOs, CBOs and other partners.
    • Build the capacity of Community Engagement Practitioners in the Greater Kruger and beyond through formal training and a flagship annual conference.
    • Participate in existing efforts to promote restorative justice practices and victim-offender dialogues in context of wildlife crime in the Greater Kruger area.

    Khetha Programme:Finance/ Grants Manager

    Minimum Requirements

    • Tertiary qualification - Financial / Accounting degree or diploma with minimum five years’ experience as an Accountant.
    • Proven expertise in managing effective donor project cycle management process in terms of financial management and reporting.
    • Minimum two years’ experience of financial management and administration in complex donor project context which include multiple grant relationships with private sector, NGO and government entities.
    • Computer literate: MS Excel advanced level.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide financial and grant management to the Khetha Programme:
    • Assist in establishing and monitoring core and project partner budgets.
    • Prepare statutory financial statements up to and including the Balance Sheet, Income and Cash Flow Statements, with supporting working papers and schedules.
    • Facilitate budget revision and realignment as required and communicate regularly with programme staff in this regard.
    • Maintain the Khetha Programme budget and cash flow projections, including a monthly expenditure tracking for each Khetha objective area and core cost expenditure.

    • Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations and validate balances of trial balance on a monthly basis.
    • Track USAID burn rate and expenditure of obligated funding and communicate progress through monthly processes with programme staff.
    • Assist with oversight of partner contracts and tracking of cost share contributions across partnerships.
    • Validate and manage correctness of debtors and creditor accounts.
    • Monitor the accuracy of all reports generated by Netsuite and import yearly budget into Netsuite.
    • Provide financial and grant compliance and oversight to the Khetha Programme:
    • Ensure that all financial budgeting, accounting and reporting is compliant with USAID requirements.
    • Liaise with USAID regarding financial updates and any related queries.
    • Prepare accurate and complete SEFA on a yearly basis.
    • Prepare and oversee annual program external audits (SOW, Audit firm selection and facilitate audit meetings).
    • Ensure procurement of goods and services compliance with WWFSA procurement policies and participate in procurement committee meetings as needed.
    • Monitor of payments and financial reports in grant agreements, including EFT suppliers payments.
    • Process 18A certificates and ensure the correct appliance of 18A certificate according to organisation tax exemption policy.
    • Prepare a final Khetha financial close out report by September 30th, 2024.
    • Ensure that all records are available and easily retrievable for all financial and administrative aspects of the project management cycle, including Project Approvals, contracts, invoicing, payments, reporting, close-outs, etc.
    • Perform further duties in collaboration with the Khetha Programme Chief of Party, including:
    • Oversee the work of the Office Manager to ensure all contractual financial and administrative processes are adhered to, including setting up and updating filing systems for consultants and sub-award contracts and oversight of asset register.
    • Stay abreast of programmatic developments through regular interaction with program staff.
    • Assist with a wide range of ad-hoc internal program administration – and management processes not limited to financial management.
