    Insurance Consultant

    What will you do?

    • Santam Operations, Commercial Portfolio Management has a career opportunities available for Insurance Consultants base in Johannesburg Hill On Empire, Parktown . The insurance consultant role is focused on providing an end-to-end service and support to brokers. 

    What does Insurance Consultant do?

    This role is focused on, but not limited to; servicing broker requests, including enquiries.

    • Providing telephonic/ email support to the intermediary on record, authorised representatives from the brokerage, and broker services;
    • Dealing with general insurance and policy specific enquiries;
    • Dealing with issuance of new policies/ policy maintenance/ renewal / agri aspects of policies;
    • Assisting to resolve all insurance queries within required timeframe and compliance requirements;
    • Undertaking client follow-ups when policies are cancelled to ascertain the reasons and attempt to retain the policy onto books;
    • Undertaking to adjust premiums in line with new asset values;
    • Managing client expectation on expected turnaround times for submitted requests;
    • Adhering to underwriting criteria and regional requirements;
    • Assist with profiling the client with the best suitable product and underwriting criteria;
    • Advising brokers to ensure that we meet with clients’ needs in terms of the correct cover and product;
    • Assisting in implementing solutions for improvement; and
    • Standing in for Consultants should they be absent or on leave during busy periods or absence of key resources, assisting where required.

    Qualification and Experience

    • Matric/ Grade 12
    • 60 commercial lines FAIS credits
    • A relevant insurance related qualification (e.g. NQF lev 5) would be advantageous
    • Proven work experience in commercial, agriculture policy administration and underwriting within the short-term insurance industry
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in short term insurance commercial lines and/or Agri assets

    Executive Head: Underwriting, Legal Risk & Regulatory

    What will you do?

    • We have an exciting opportunity for an Executive Head: Underwriting, Legal Risk & Regulatory within Santam Specialist Solutions.

    Key responsibilities:

    Strategic Management:

    • Provide sustainable strategic input for your relevant business area that will contribute to the financial health of the organisation through sound governance practices.
    • Provide detailed analysis and reporting on the Technical and Governance Areas.
    • Actively seek ways to keep competitive advantage in the market.
    • Provide feedback on market intelligence.
    • Encourage cross-selling initiatives within Specialist Business by helping underwriters identify opportunities
    • Develop a Sustainable Risk Management Initiative that assists the underwriting & claims team and clients
    • Monitor and report on cover trends and developments and the potential impact on the business.

    Technical Underwriting:

    • Provide oversight, input and coordination into all UW and RI commercial related matters, across SSS portfolio.
    • Provide oversight on high-level portfolio management
    • Promote ‘best practice’ underwriting process to minimise underwriting operational risk
    • General Technical support to Lines of Business
    • Ensure adherence to underwriting governance and underwriting authorities.
    • Research and Development on new products as required

    Claims:

    • Provide technical & strategic input and guidance to Claims Teams on large/complex claims related matters
    • Monitor for possible aggregation across lines of business

    Legal, Governance, Assurance and Risk Management:

    • Co-operation with Group Shared Services in relation to information management and content of Treaty Agreements
    • Overseeing the Coordinating and collating of audit feedback for business
    • Adherence to the Santam Internal Control policy by implementing an effective system of internal control
    • Implement an effective approach to the identification, assessment, monitoring, management and reporting of relevant operational risk exposures
    • Drive a risk-aware and strong governance culture within SSS
    • Monitor underwriting process quality

    Reinsurance:

    • Alignment of our RI treaties within SSS to the group risk appetite strategy & direction
    • Ensure reinsurance protection in close liaison with SSS Clusters that quantitatively and qualitatively supports underwriting operations
    • Manage the QS arrangement with Syndicate 1918
    • Promote solutions to minimise Risk of exposure to loss aggregation in conjunction with Lines of Business
    • Statistical analyses for use in portfolio pricing
    • Produce and distribute Treaty overview across SSS

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum 15 years in a similar role – CUO type roles, active underwriter roles, legal counsel and claims oversight roles
    • Broad multi-class specialist risks experience is a requirement
    • Reinsurance strategy, contracting and placement experience, in relation to specialist risks is a requirement
    • Business degree and / or Legal Degree
    • General management development courses
    • Proven leadership skills and experience
    • Established relationships with key persons in the large global & SA National brokers is a requirement
    • Excellent writing and communication skills
    • Proven people relationship skills & EQ skills

    Head: Underwriting & Sales: A&H

    • Responsible for both top-line growth in line with the annual budget as well as underwriting result of your relevant business area.
    • Provide sustainable strategic input for your relevant business area that will contribute to the financial health of the organisation through the generation of income.
    • Provide detailed analysis and reporting on the Underwriting performance of your relevant business area.
      Actively seek ways to maintain a competitive advantage in the market.
    • Provide feedback on market intelligence.
      Identify and establish relationships with the top-performing brokers nationwide, prioritizing those contributing significant A & H insurance placements.
    • Develop tailored strategies to strengthen partnerships with large as well as specialist Brokers.
    • Proactively generate new business opportunities to grow market share in the A & H insurance segment.
    • Assist regional marketers in retaining and expanding existing high-value client portfolios through focused engagement strategies.
    • Act as a central point of contact for national broker relationships, ensuring consistent and meaningful interaction.
    • Support regional marketers by facilitating broker meetings, presentations, and negotiations where needed.
    • Conduct targeted training sessions for brokers on A & H products, risk mitigation and policy wording changes and / or trends.
    • Share insights and best practices to enhance broker capability and engagement.
    • Monitor national market trends, competitor activity, and opportunities for growth.
    • Collaborate with regional teams to identify and explore untapped markets or segments.
    • Leverage data and analytics to identify growth opportunities within Brokers or Broker segments.
    • Work closely with regional marketers to align national strategies with regional objectives.
    • Provide mentorship and support to regional teams in broker engagement and business development activities.
    • Attend to all underwriting responsibilities related to a relevant line of business including but not limited to risk evaluation, preparation and loading of quotes, checking and signing of policy wordings and endorsements, in respect of both new business and renewals.
    • Assist underwriters with analytical and strategic input in the interpretation of underwriting information.
    • Ensure adherence to underwriting governance and underwriting authorities.
    • Ensure accuracy of referral documentation and treaty compliance of risks when presented by Underwriters.
    • Provide a special focus on large / important clients and or accounts within your relevant business area.
    • Provide guidance on technically complex quotes and renewals and ensure quality control in respect of underwriting standards.
    • Day-to-day management of staff on sales related matters and other issues.
    • Contact visits with brokers to discuss renewals, new business and to promote the Company.
    • Manage and maintain successful business relationships with relevant clients.
    • Ensure that clients are provided with consistent superior service and products.
    • Handle and resolve all relevant client queries within authority levels and liaise with service providers.
    • Work in conjunction with all internal resources and support structures to achieve desired business outcomes.
    • Prepare a sales budget that is in line with the overall company strategy for growth and financial sustainability.
