    Manager: Project Controls

    Job description

    Business Unit: Sasol Exploration & Production International (SEPI)

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    Lead and direct the project controls and services teams through multiple Sasol Exploration & Production International (SEPI) studies, projects and programs (mega-projects) through all phases of IEPMS (or BD&I). This covers all phases (Assess, Select, Define and Execute) of Acquisition, Exploration, Appraisal, Development, Abandonment and Divestment projects.
    Leading all Project Planners, Cost Controllers, Document Controllers, and Cost Administrators to deliver on agreed project objectives. This includes but is not limited to cost estimates, cost control base, cost control, high level and detailed schedules, progress measurement, invoice administration, and project document management.
    Functional head of all Planners, Cost Controllers, Invoice Administrators and Document Controllers. The Project Controls team will form the center of excellence for all project controls support to Project Teams within SEPI.

    REQUIRED OUTPUTS

    • Strategy & Policy
      • Develop Project Controls Policies and Procedures for Project Controls team and ensure implementation and adherence
      • Drive the integration of Cost, Schedule, financial and Commercial within a project
      • Accuracy and timely delivery of cost reports and cost forecasts
      • Minimize Audit findings
      • Cost report that includes all risks and changes and reflect remaining contingencies and risk allowance.
    • Planning & people
      • Ensure internal and external resources can deliver upon requirements to ensure effective project controls.
      • Resource forecasting the project controls requirements within the project
      • Develop and fill a projects control organizational structure for a project
      • Review of the quality of delivery by internal and external resources
      • Performance management of individual within the projects, controls structure.
      • Performance management
      • Provide efficient and high quality services to the projects
      • Quality, effectiveness and timely delivery of Project Controls deliverables
      • Accuracy and predictability of forecast of cost and schedule
      • Accuracy of project progress reporting
    • Governance & Risk management
      • Adherence to Policy and procedures
      • Compliance with internal and external guidelines and policies
      • Ensure Project Risk management accurately reported in Cost and Schedule
      • Address and close out any Audit findings for Project Controls
    • External relations & reporting
      • Establishing an integrated project controls system and plans for all SEPI projects and studies.
      • Responsible for evaluating, proactively control and forecast. This encompasses baselines,
      • project costs/schedule, estimating impacts, applying earned value, setting the contractual requirements and the delivery thereof.
      • Ensure proper project controls governance is adhered on projects.
      • Ensure Integrated Project Controls requirements are incorporate in ITB’s or RFQ’s, participate in
      • the bid clarifications and assessments meetings.
      • Implement integrated risk and change management on projects as per procedure.
      • Report on cost and schedule forecast of projects, against the agreed control base with the utmost focus on accuracy, predictability and timeously reporting
      • Ensure accurate reporting of project progress by liaising with the project Planners and Project managers.
      • Maintain high cost reporting through accurate tracking and reporting of risks and changes and the remaining contingencies and risks allowance to determine projects' health status.
      • Foster a culture of collaboration and personal growth for direct reports technical excellence and robust critical review of all activities and results on projects
      • Ensure that project controls requirements for gate reviews are implemented
      • Ensure that all Board decisions regarding cost and schedules are implemented and adhered to on projects

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    Qualifications

    Minimum:

    • BTech, BEng, BSc. Eng, BSc QS, BCom or advanced degree
    • Cost and Planning certification from recognised a Professional Institution, e.g. AACE

    Experience required

    • Minimum 10 years of project management/Project Control experience, depending on educational qualification including:
    • 2 years’ experience in capital project estimating, planning and project scheduling and
    • 2 years’ experience in operations work experience on large projects preferably in an upstream environment

    Functional Competencies

    • Fundamental understanding of Project Management Principles
    • Knowledge of project controls principles
    • Knowledge of Sasol specific business processes: SAP, Safety, FMEA, Hazop studies, etc.
    • Ability to manage project controls up to Programmes from Front-end-loading to completion
    • Competent in different project execution strategies
    • Integrated estimating and planning Management
    • Competent in construction management principles
    • Competent in problem solving, negotiation and facilitation in a project environment
    • Competent in the application of the BD&I, PMBOK, NEC3, etc.
    • Understand the total value chain of the business on projects
    • Integrated Risk management affecting the project
    • Steercom reporting on Integrated pro-active project controls and cost flow management
    • Establishing an integrated control base that supports project control on a project.
    • Integrated Earned Value Progress Measurement
    • Negotiation of contracts, pricing structure/Project Control matters for different contracting strategies and driving process through lifecycle of the contract
