Job description

Carpenters need the ability to read and follow blueprints for the job, using a variety of tools and measuring devices. Carpenters typically work with wood, but often constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, and conforming to local building standards.

Summary Of Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Consistently offers professional, engaging and friendly service
• Repair, maintain and install work according to departmental procedures
• Proficient in the English language (verbal and written), second language is an asset
• 5 years of previous hands-on experience in the field required
• Must have the ability to multi-task
• Be able to complete requests in timely, accurate, efficient and knowledgeable manner
• High acumen for detailed work
• Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, and conforming to local building standards
• Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated
• Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes
• Knowledge of cabinet making and ability to fix , repair and install timber structures
• Excellent knowledge of brush painting as well as spray painting
• Metal welding knowledge is an added advantage
• Previous Hotel experience is an asset
• Must be flexible in terms of working hours
• A self-starter, take initiative, can make decisions in fast-paced, changing environment

Qualifications

• Previous experience is an asset
• Reasonably high level of knowledge and skill in Carpentry
• Candidate should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the same position
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and use of required equipment and eyes for detailed works.
• Ability to use safely carpentry and rotary tools

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):

• Frequent standing and walking throughout shift
• Lifting and carrying
• Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, sitting
• Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps

Visa Requirements: Applicants must be eligible to work in South Africa.
