The purpose

 position is to set up, operate, and maintain litho and digital printing presses as well as finishing machines to fulfil orders from clients in accordance with job specifications. The successful candidate must be an all-rounder printing press operator.

Detailed description

The incumbent will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

• Provide support to the Team Leader: Print Production.
• Liaise with the Print Production Unit to produce and prioritise jobs and, when necessary, reorganise work in agreement with the Team Leader: Print Production to meet deadline changes and updates.

Deliver high quality and relevant work, including:

• Operate the litho, digital, and finishing presses to produce complete customised jobs, which includes reading the job specifications, paper handling, document scanning, transferring the source (physical or electronic) to the machine, ripping the files produced from static and variable data files, adjusting machine settings, loading and unloading paper, and stacking and labelling the finished product.
• Review all proofs and final product samples, ensuring satisfactory production and quality to meet or exceed customer expectations before releasing the jobs to clients.
• Perform minor maintenance on equipment and keep equipment clean to achieve maximum machine performance based on equipment specifications and acquired knowledge of machine operations.
• Log calls for major maintenance on equipment.
• Perform litho printing on the Speed Master and GTO presses.
• Perform digital printing.
• Operate finishing equipment such as Quick Binder, Folder, Collator, and Guillotine.
• Perform finishing manually using Craft Binding.
• Check quality and deliver on time to clients.
• Display service orientation in interactions with stakeholders.
• Engage positively with colleagues and stakeholders on the telephone, one on one and/or in meetings.
• Comply with the expected standards and procedures for the completion of tasks and activities in the printing and finishing environment.

Job requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

• an Artisan in Printing qualification or a combination of education and job-related experience;
• a TT3 in Printing; and
• 2-5 years of experience in print production or a similar environment.
