    Job description

    Purpose

    To source food-related products (i.e.: groceries, toiletries and perishables) from international suppliers that suit the needs of the company and consumers.

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • Grade 12 qualification
    • Business-related diploma/degree

    Experience

    Essential

    •  (1 year) Internet research
    •  (2 years) MS Office

    Desirable

     (1 year) Retail experienceKnowledge N/A

    Skills

    Essential

    •  (2 years) MS Office
    •  (1 year) Communication Skills

    Desirable

    •  (1 year) Presentation Skills
    •  (1 year) Negotiation Skills

    JOB OBJECTIVES:

    • To understand the specific products that are sourced:
      • Discuss with appropriate experts in the field/products.
      • Research sales performance of similar current products
      • Obtain specification on desired product to be sourced
    • To source the correct product at the right time:
      • Research local and international supply of a product and/or range.
      • Contact specific suppliers that were researched
      • Obtain supplier and product information (e.g. products available, pricing, shelflife, terms and conditions)
      • Compare supplier information to local and current imported lines
      • Obtain samples and present to management
    • To find different/unique products (new trends):
      • Research via internet/B2B or with current or new suppliers what different/unique products are available worldwide
      • Speak to Embassies and Trade Offices for contact details of suppliers in specific countries
    • To find profitable products for the company:
      • Compare sourced products with local and current imported product prices
      • Calculate possible GP and compare it with local/current products
    • To find products that are in short supply in the local market:
      • Speak to local buyers for possible future problems with supply
      • Research local and international supply of a product (i.e. raw material shortages, production constraints)
      • Contact specific suppliers that were researched
      • Obtain supplier and product information (e.g. products available, pricing, shelflife, terms and conditions)
      • Compare supplier information to local and current imported lines
      • Obtain samples and present to management
