    The aim of this post is to contribute to improving the teaching and learning of English in South Africa through the successful delivery of the British Council`s English programmes, including English for Education systems and E-learning.     Accountabilities, Responsibilities And Main Duties

    • Strategic Thinking
      • Ensure British Council South Africa has an ambitious but achievable English strategy signed off in country and regionally, and aligned with the needs of our partners
      • Ensure our work in ELT complements and interfaces with our Education and Exams work to present an integrated education offer in South Africa.
    • Project Delivery to ensure:
      • Delivery of training meets in-country plans and targets.
      • Project income, scorecard targets and intermediate outcomes met.
      • Project delivery documentation is completed to agreed deadlines
      • Relevant evaluation tools are used as outlined in project planning documentation.
      • Monitoring and evaluation frameworks/methodologies are followed in all aspects of project delivery.
      • The British Council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Child Protection, agenda is implemented throughout project delivery
      • Monitor budgets for income and expenditure on a monthly basis in line with delegated role on the
    • Council’s accounting system
      • Report on potential risk to the project - legal, financial and reputational - on a monthly basis to Line
      • Manager as part of the risk reporting framework
      • Regular liaison with Education &Society projects to ensure cross promotion and effective use of resources to maximise impact
      • Regular liaison with the business development manager to explore opportunities for income and impact for the British Council
      • Contribute ELT expertise to contracts and project proposals as required
    • Relationship Management
      • Contribute with the local management team, towards building positive relationships with key external contacts and partners
      • Manage the development and maintenance of a contacts database of teachers in country and plan regular communications with this target group
      • Identify opportunities for new strategic partnerships which would support the regional strategy
      • Build and maintain networks of English Language officials within provincial and national government
      • Advise DBE, DHET, provincial officials and district education heads on ELT processes and policy
      • Maintain and foster links with local English teachers’ associations.
    • Business Development
      • Identify prospective partners to fund and co-fund project activity
      •  Contribute to the development of funding proposals
    • Teacher Training
      • Contribute to the development and delivery of appropriate teacher training courses
      •  Identify suitable teacher trainers and monitor their delivery
      • Line Management
      • Manage the ELT Project Manager and consultants to standards set out under the British Council’s Performance Management system
      • Promote through example and effective line management an approach to work life balance, equal opportunities and where appropriate child protection, that ensures effective delivery of the programme
