    Senior Engineering Specialist Maintenance

    Job description

    The Senior Engineering Specialist Maintenance will be based at the Struandale Engine Plant and will be responsible for supporting the plant with engineering and maintenance activities and concerns. This includes the incumbent leading all Maintenance Operating Systems (MOS) activities, continuous improvement actions and ensuring the achievement of all metrics as outlined by the Ford Production System (FPS).

    Position Details:

    • Lead all Preventative Maintenance (PM) activities by integrating the maintenance activities into the total department business plan and ensuring achievement thereof – two sentences made one
    • Maximize equipment effectiveness through a detailed, standardized, and prioritized preventive and predictive maintenance plan designed to improve productivity/ Developing preventative / predictive maintenance practices to ensure 100% equipment uptime
    • Provide resources, support, and priorities for all maintenance actions; Use Maximo for Maintenance database to document all maintenance activities (planned and crisis) and create reports to support continuous improvement
    • Lead Constraint Review process and drive maintenance metrics using the the Plant Operating System.
    • Lead all daily, weekend and shutdown maintenance planning with input from the team(s)
    • Jointly coordinate maintenance and engineering activities
    • Assisting plants in addressing equipment down time issues
    • Actively participate in Simultaneous Engineering meetings, Forward Planning and Product Design to ensure Maintainability standards are followed.
    • Ensure that all maintenance activities of the team are performed safely as per legislative requirements and Ford's in house safety policies and processes
    • Participate in Time & Data Management meetings for scheduling, staffing, procurement, equipment maintenance, inventory control, constraint analysis, quality reviews and the coordination of production activities with co-dependent departments

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Must possess the ability to analyse and resolve issues quickly through route cause analysis and drive change back to the production department
    • Must display strong customer orientation with a commitment to upholding plant processes through strict adherence to the Quality Operating System.
    • Must demonstrate the ability to execute to achieve results, while organizing and managing multiple priorities
    • Must have a proven willingness to take a participatory approach to union relations and be a team player
    • Must have the ability to serve as a strong and confident technical mentor to the production organization
    • Must have strong written and verbal communications skills
    • Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership in ONE FORD (leadership) behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal, teambuilding, and communication skills
    • Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
    • Degree/National Diploma in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering or National Technical Certfificate (NTC) 6 + Trade Certificate in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering)
    • Three to five years proven experience gained as Engineer or Maintenance supervisor coupled with 5-10 year’s hands-on shop floor experience with manufacturing equipment
    • Must be prepared to work shifts and overtime
    • Previous project management experience
    • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
    • Knowledge of constraint management principles
    • Safety and Quality experience is advantageous
    • Microsoft Office knowledge (Word/Excel/Outlook)
    • Prior experience managing a unionized work force
    • Previous CNC machining experience
    • Previous Helium leak stand experience
    • Previous experience on operational use of quality tools & metrics.
    • Previous experience on operational use of maintenance information systems & metrics.
