    (734) Category Lead: Operations - FSD

    Detailed description

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

    • Plan and/or prioritise work for self and others in the team, using guidance from the Strategic Sourcing Manager and own discretion (as seen fit) in defining and prioritising work for the team.
    • Ensure adherence to controls and that work is performed within established practices and given processes, rules and regulations, ensuring compliance with standards, policies and other guidelines.
    • Supervise and perform the sourcing of goods and services, which includes, but is not limited to, market research, the preparation of requests for a tender/proposal/quotation/information (RFXs), the evaluation of bids, commercial negotiations, recommendations for supplier awards, as well as the preparation and presentation of submissions to relevant committees. 
    • Manage the category sourcing activities in accordance with the Procurement Policy as well as the general administrative processes to ensure validity, timeliness, accuracy and completeness. 
    • Supervise the sourcing activities in accordance with the Procurement Policy and relevant legislation, including the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act 53 of 2003 (B-BBEE Act).
    • Review and authorise RFXs, recommendations for supplier awards and purchase orders within the delegation of authority. 
    • Manage the cycle times for all category sourcing-related activities to ensure process efficiency and customer satisfaction.
    • Collate and analyse spend data for the sourcing category in order to develop demand plans to ensure adequate resource planning as well as the development of category strategies for category management, process improvement and reporting for management purposes.
    • Analyse and compile management information relating to the category for reporting purposes. 
    • Manage relationships, and lead and participate in internal and external stakeholder engagements. 
    • Diagnose problems and display the ability to provide solutions through team collaboration for problems within a defined context.
    • Actively participate in activities/engagements that aim to continuously improve systems, processes and procedures within the department. 
    • Proactively increase knowledge and skills of functional area and apply such. 
    • Manage the performance and development of team members and provide ongoing on-the-job training and long-term career management support.
    • Implement/execute sourcing category strategy based on spend-and-demand analysis.
    • Collaborate with other procurement clusters to ensure operational alignment in driving overall strategy

    Qualifications

    Job requirements

    To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of:

    • a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Commerce or Supply Chain Management, or an equivalent qualification; and
    • a minimum of 7–8 years of experience in the procurement or sourcing environment, of which at least three years should be in a supervisory capacity. The following would be an added advantage:
    •  a Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) certification.
