Job description

We are seeking a General Manager, based in Durban, working for an international shipping company.

Job Purpose:

• To manage the commercial aspects of the Car Carrier business and oversee and supervise the activities and resources.
• Management of all Carrier activities in South Africa.
• Monitoring market conditions, regular reporting.
• Market car carrier and Ro-Ro service in South Africa in order to increase volume and revenue.
• Manage and develop commercial team
• Liaise with customers and stakeholders regarding commercial issues.
• Budget control, and ensuring client overdue debt is controlled.
• Administration, reporting, and ensure implementation and adherence to policies and procedures.

Education and experience:

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in the shipping industry; 4 years managerial; experience in Car Carrier advantageous.
• Relevant tertiary qualification essential
• Computer programme knowledge
• Working knowledge of shipping/liner industry and freight industry
• Knowledge of market and changes in market
• Knowledge of documentation procedures
• Knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures

Offer:

+/- R80,000 CTC pm plus incentives.
