Job description

The purpose of this position is to provide Process Technology engineering and technical support for intermediate systems with moderate complexity.

• Perform most types of calculations and design using both computer-aided and manual techniques.
• Provide assistance to the Lead Engineer, as requested, in the areas of schedules, estimates, progress reports, meetings, procurement, activities etc.
• Utilize vendor data and work with personnel from other disciplines as required for the performance of designs.
• Perform squad check on vendor data and drawings from other disciplines.
• Actively participate in, and maximize the use of, Fluor’s Knowledge Community and other available resources.
• Travel, as required, to ensure the successful execution of project and/or department goals.
• Attend external technical seminars and self-enroll in training courses for in-house management.
• Perform self-check of completed work, develop self confidence, and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
• Exhibit thorough understanding of pertinent codes and governing regulations and industry practices, etc.
• Assist, as required, in the development of department standards and procedures.
• Assist with Quality Audits
• Make presentations at department meetings
• Participate in all project phases
• Participate in SIL Review
• Participate in HAZID and HAZOP studies
• Develop and document design basis
• Carry out process studies under supervision
• Set up complex process simulations
• Evaluate and optimize process schemes
• Prepare Process Flow Diagrams and Heat and Material Balances
• Check Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
• Lead Flowsheet Design reviews for assigned area of responsibility
• Prepare and check process equipment data sheets
• Evaluate alternative control strategies
• Input into material selection
• Carry out complex hydraulic calculations
• •Provide input to plot plans and 3D models
• Implement Value awareness in projects
• Other duties as assigned

Basic Job Requirements

• Bachelor of Science/Engineering (Chemical)
• 6 years of experience working on refinery or petrochemical projects in an EPCm environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner

Other Job Requirements

Process Engineers are viewed as ambassadors of the FIuor Igoda business as they are often the first face the Client sees. The successful candidate will exhibit the required personal as well as technical skills to act in this role.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
